Keep you all posted as things transpire.

Latest news on the Calgary AB Derailmen

Heavy machinery was moved in around noon and crews are in the process of setting up air pumps to extract material from the derailed cars.

Five of the Canadian Pacific rail cars contain petroleum diluent, which is used to thin petroleum products, including bitumen from Alberta oilsands, for transporting through a pipeline.

Howdy ...

Sounds like a mess in Calgary!

I hope Bill T shows up with coffee tomorow morning. I've been sleeping for 2 days in the back booth. Duke is still conked out in the corner booth, too.

Cheers, everybody!

Good evening.

Feeling better than I did earlier today. Did get the Spitfire done. Sister also made an excellent supper today. Homemade pasta. Yum.

Stomach's a little off, but I don't think it's anything big.

Well I had to forget about any layout work today. I moved a couple of computer keyboards and a few model kit boxes from under the layout to the closet and by that time my body was letting me know it wasn't liking that at all. I was feeling so bad I went back to bed for a few hours. So it's looking like maybe another day or two before I can get a serious start on moving stuff from under there. Getting under there isn't hard and getting out from under there isn't very hard either. Getting up is the hard part. A bum leg and a foot that's all but useless, compromised muscle control of the arms and other leg and throw in a flaky sense of balance and you get why I have a hard time just walking a short distance let alone getting to a standing position. I can't even kneel without falling over most of the time. So to work under the layout I have to be sitting on the floor as I can't squat down. Most of the time that's comfortable until it comes time to get up. It's much easier if I can grab the edge of the layout and pull myself up. Of course by then I don't want to get back under there for a while. So maybe tomorrow or Saturday I can get under there again. In other news, well there is no other news here that I know of so that's it for now.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a cup of decaf please...

Hope they are able to clean up the mess in Calgary, without any problems (more than they already have, that is...).

Hmmm...  So, where is Bill?  I miss his morning photos....!   ???

I got a lot done out at camp.  Completed trimming around tents in two campsites today.  Got a couple more tents platforms done in a newer campsite where the tents are in a field...  Very, very tall grass and I want to mow down the grass between the tents where the tractor mower can't go as well.  I hope I can get it finished in one afternoon next week, since the campsite won't be used until week 2 of camp.  It should be close, but may mean another day out there to finish it....  I have enough to do right here at home.

Tonight they are calling for storms with the possibility of heavy rain.  Thunder storms and rain are predicted for the next week, so that may make the trimming and mowing here be difficult as well.

I will be spending Saturday at the Museum being the councilor for RR Merit Badge for a Troop from the Syracuse area, then work train crew out there on Sunday.  Definitely not bored at least...Whistling

How about calling on your friend David Parks, he lives across the road does he not ??

I'm sure for all you have helped him with he would be glad to get under the layout and get those items out of their for you.  Sometimes all you have to do is ask..  Please be kind to yourself.  Also your Dad could help you out for a few minutes of his valuable time.  It is not an all day job you are asking for.

Evening guys.

We got a decent amount of rain today which was nice as things were starting to get dry around here. The kids had there last day today so that means summer break. When I was a kid it was always my favorite day, lol. Actually I liked going back as that meant new school supplies and binders. Funny thing is even to this day the wife hates around August because she knows I will go go the stores and buy all the pens that I like and probably dont need and come home with a bunch of office supplies. What can I say?? I Like pens and markers. I must have 60 sharpies of different colors on my shelf in the workshop. I have containers for Pens,Markers,Pencil,Pencil Crayons. So When Auguts rolls around I will "restock", just dont tell the wife Stick out tongue

Good evening.

Got a lot of work done on the Typhoon. Just need to put the landing gear together, add the stabilizers and then the clear plastic details. After that, paint and decals. It's going to be in a camo scheme as well, but with green and gray scheme. Will also have the famed D-Day Invasion strips.

Night everyone.

Hmmm...  So, where is Bill?  I miss his morning photos....!   ???

I noticed too!

It was sometimes he'd post first, sometimes I'd post first. Then it changed..seemed he was always AFTER me. I assumed maybe he changed his work shift or sleep pattern?

Then I noticed my "tid bits' were going strong without a pre-or follow-up from Bill!

I assumed maybe on vacation?

Wherefore ART thou, BILL? Post your ever flowing cuppa jo !

Good morning. It's 75° with 93% humidity. The high will be 98°.

Gonna be a hot one today. Hopefully I won't have to go out for anything. Today I'll try an get at some things under the layout using a Grip n Grab so I don't have to get down on the floor. At least I'll be able to get some of the lighter stuff out of there. The power supply for my IIe cleared Bethpage NY early this morning and according to the postal service is hotfooting it's way here. They say it'll be here by the 1st. Hmmm. We'll see. Today's the 28th. That gives them today and tomorrow.

Morning fellas,

We are under a heavy rainfall warning at the moment. I'm just sitting here with my coffee and watching Practice for the F1 British Grand Prix and flipping back and forth to Wimbledon. I have some fright cars to get building later and some cleaning up on the layout. Have to clean some structures and such. Also have to arrange my shop a bit so I can get a few more things in there.

 Morning All,

Currently it is 60 with an expected high of 100 today and mid-day humidity will be 14%, very hot and dry. Weather guessers are expecting us to break all time temp records this coming week.

Opening shift today. Still need to mow the front yard, but with the high heat and my work schedule, it has not happened in way too long. Maybe I can get to it early tomorrow, or later this evening.

    Prayers to all in need.

Mornin'.....  Uh, Afternoon folks!

Gee, where does the time go?  Chloe, I'll just have a refill of the dark roast coffee for right now.

I slept in this morning.  Blackie got his meds about 15 minutes late.... Whistling  Decided to basically take today off due tio the weather, and because I have to get everything ready to go for the Railroading Merit Badge I will be teaching over the weekend.  The last site that needs to be finished out at camp will not be used the first week, so it was not a priority to have done now anyway.  I plan on getting too a few odds and ends I have been putting off for several weeks now.

Mr. V8, glad your cooler is up and running.  108°F?  Now that is a reason to live up North!  I have relatives who feel sorry for me that I stay up here in NYS when they live in Flowiduh where it stay nice and warm year around.  I've been down there in the middle of the Winter and just about melted in the heat!  No thanks, I'd rather shovel snow...Laugh

Jeffery, I also saw that Bill has been in every day across the street in the 'greasy spoon' over there (I checked it out after I noticed that Bill has been absent here).  He must not like us anymore...SadSigh  Hope he isn't Angry about something.

Have a good one!

Hello everyone.

Work on the Typhoon has been going smoothly. Will take a break from it soon. The model, even though the Typhoon is a single engine aircraft, seems to be as big as the P-38J Lightning that I have. It is a ground attack aircraft, so I'm not surprised.

They were generally about the same size. Not surprisingly the Lightniong was the larger of the two. The P38L was 37' 10" in length and had a wing span of 52' and a loaded weight of 17,500 pounds (12,800 empty). The Typhoon Mk lb was 31' 11.5" in length and a wingspan of 41' and 7" and and a loaded weight of 11,400 pounds (8,840 empty). World War II aircraft were a childhood hobby of mine.

I can well understand that. I've always had a problem with getting more than one of my feet off the ground at once. In the army I became a firm believer that jumping out of a perfectly good aircraft is not a natural act and I sometimes did my best to become a part of said aircraft. I'm terrified of heights.

The strange thing about my fear of heights is i'm fine in a building looking out the window, just as long as it is not a floor to ceiling plate glass window. Even some of the clear glass floors at zoo's or observation areas drive me too stay off of them, though I know that they are several inches thick I just can not walk on them.   Otto

Once I settle into my seat on the plane, I'm fine.  Starting the day before the flight, though, I have Traffic Anxiety, Parking Anxiety, Public Transportation Anxiety and most of all, TSA Security Anxiety.  It's all those things that could make me miss my flight.  And, if that's not enough, there's SWMBO Anxiety if she's traveling with me.  She will do whatever it takes to make sure we arrive at the airport as LATE as possible.

Even Did My Bags Make It Anxiety is nothing compared to arriving at check-in with a wife who couldn't find her license, and absoulutely INSISTED that the rules did not apply to her and they should let her on the plane.  She'd forgotten which pocket of her multi-segmented wallet the ID was in.

Fear of flying?  Nothing compared to what happens to me before they even close the door.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

If you guys see Bill elsewhere, please encourage him to return.  I doubt there is a problem such as Bill not liking us anymore. He's always welcome here. ..... Lately it;'s been rough getting up without his coffee. ... By the way, where is that greasy spoon?

Bill T ... If you see this, I'll be glad to see your historic photos again. ... And the coffee is great!

Regarding fear of flying, I was awakened by an explosion very close to our house late one night in 1961 west of Chicago. It was a a TWA plane crashing, and it killed nearly 80 people on board. It was very gruesome to say the least. The rest of my life, I recall the terrible scene every time I fly. It's not that I am afraid; it's just I do not like the awful memory. So I avoid flying normally.

On the layout, I am working on the backdrops for the extension I am slowly putting together.

I got a load of empty boxes from under the layout today and took up a bit more track. I set down a 90 degree curve to see about where the new track will be in relation to the park. Looks like I'll be making the park a bit bigger to support a length of track across the front of it.

I went to my fathers place for beans and cornbread this afternoon. While I was there I looked at my step mothers life alert system. You know, one of those things you press the button on in an emergency. She wanted me to hook it up to the phone line. Well my father has phone service through Suddenlink. So all the phones in the house connect to one modem. The person I was talking to with Life Alert said the thing had to be connected to the modem and then all the other lines would be connected to the Alert box. I did that. All I got was 'unable to detect phone line'. I hooked it up every way I could think of. 'Unable to detect phone line'. After about an hour of this I'm ready to set the darn thing on the railroad tracks! Then they tell me it needs a converter box to work with a modem. Well dang! They could have told me that an hour earlier! The beans and cornbread were good though.
