Well, we have decided, I think, to go for it on  the Chrysler T&C. We have thought long and hard on it, though we will be getting rid of IT in 5 years too as they will quit making the parts sometime 10 years into the future too. And as soon as MOH is employed for a year, we will replace the 98 GR Caravan with a new car too, probably small for MOH to run around in. It runs OK and is getting to be a night mare is the rust department, so it should last another year.

For the second car we are looking at the Mazda 2. A nice smaller  car for MOH. OR a Mazda 5-it is like a minivan only smaller or a station wagon that's a bit bigger. It will be USED of course.

The  original plan was to replace the 98 in 21 months {or is it 20 now I just mailed on out?} when the Kia is paid for and keep the KIA for another 5 years as paid off . We don't really want 2 car payments, but since I have us on an austerity budget now, I think we can keep our belts tightened enough to deal with it with 2 payments and insurance increases.

The dryer works great I was able to make all 7 loads into 4 and the dryer handled the larger washer loads! {the washer is 7 cf capacity and the dryer 6.5cf} we both like the wide open door mouth on the dryer for loading/unloading. {MOH had to try it out even though it is basically MY toy!}. I am pleased with it. For $348 base price it is GREAT. Haier does make some great products.

Today my back is paying for all the work i did yesterday. and I need to go grocery shopping and MOH wants to go too.

well off to shower...

Have a great day.

Ulrich: I hope your father gets over his pneumonia soon. That's a nice looking little VW.

*

Good morning. It's 49° with 99% humidity. The high will be 75°.

The plan for today is to mow the grass. With all the rain we've had lately it's growing by leaps and bounds and will be out of control if it's not cut soon. I don't anticipate getting much else done today.

Sir Madog

I just got the news that my dad was taken into the hospital this morning for treatment of a case of pneumonia. I am very much worried that this could mean his end, as old folks usually don´t go well through this.

Please keep him (and my Mom) in your prayers.

Will do....AngelAngel

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and two eggs scrambled with sausage gravy please, thanks.

Partly sunny, with a high near………(looks around for Fergie) 70.

Whew! Whata difference a day makes around here. Don’t come in for one day and it takes an hour to see what I missed. It’s nice though.

I was a trumpeter in high school and in the Jazz band too. I was so good, hey, I made Duke Armstrong jealous. Chuck Manchyown would come listen to me. Lotsa fun I had. Graduated in 1980 and don’t think I’ve touched it but once since. I should sell it before the valves lock in place, but…..it’s got sentimental value.

Galaxy- I know this means nothing in the end, especially since you've already decided, but if there is one vehicle that as long as I have been around cars NO one hasreally complained about….it’s the Chrysler/Dodge minivan. Or at least that I've heard. Yes from time to time there have been things wrong with them, but even with those the customer satisfaction is, oddly enough, outstanding. Not that there aren’t others out there people are satisfied with as well, just sayin about those. They generally are a very very good vehicle. Always can get a lemon though of anything. Like you said, if you been in the car repair business for any length of time, you will realize there ain’t a whole lot of difference in the quality or reliability between manufacturers as a whole. Dealerships vary from one to the next. One town the dealer is just as crooked as a dogs hind leg, next town the place is as honest as they come. Dealership has no bearing on the car other than they are the ones you’ll have to deal with, so I guess they do to a point. Each manufacturer has a list as long as your arm of things you could point out as to why you shouldn’t buy their “junk”, but in reality….it’s just a crap shoot at best. Example. My truck before this one. Guy I know had one same year, same motor etc. His went down for you name it. Mine, never saw a repair other than the fuel pump in the 17 years I had it. I figured after 14 almost 15 years, I wouldn’t complain. It did lose it’s transmission as did all but oh say maybe two of those ’94/’95 models. (they figured an “improved and easier  to repair” fluid tube looked good on paper, but the o-rings in real world weren’t such a good thing) This happened out of it's warranty, at a bit over 7 years but Chrysler said they would pay for it anyway and…the cost was nothing to me except for about a week without truck. Can’t complain about the dealer or company. This is the same dealer that some one else I know claimed a repair was not warranty and it was AND tried to sell her unnecessary repair. EVERYthing with cars is a gamble. Source:30+ years w**king on the evil monsters.  I drive a Dodge…er excuuuuse me, a Ram (still a Dodge. A rose by any other name) NOT because I think it’s any better than say a Ford or Chevy or any other, but like you said. It and the last one I had said…..Buy me. If this one is as good as the last one and so far it’s a go Houston, I shall be very pleased. I shall not tell fo this guy who has a Chevy pickup for the last 20 years and I'm not sure he's even changed the oil in it and it's never seen a repair. Now when I say that I don't mean normal wear and tears.

As for Kia. Buddy of mine had one a few years ago. He too felt it was the biggest hunk of rice on the planet. But, his “fancy” she wanted this one a couple years ago cause well, I guess it just said “buy me” to her. Buddy reluctantly gave in and now he says this one's great. Loves it. Whatcanya say.

Spent most yesterday doin odds and ends and today will be about the same.  I should get out in the yard today, but I think I’ll wait until tomorrow as the temps are supposed to be about the same. Couple degrees warmer, but a 30% chance of rain. I can see that possibly being useful.

Prayers for Ulrich’s Father.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Oh my! Was getting pretty good at shortening my posts, miss one day a BAM! come outta the chute like this.

Good morning. ..... Coffee and donuts, please.

I'm enjoying my 2-10-2 with its new Sountraxx sound. ....Chuff Chuff

Ulrich ..... Prayers for your Dad. The Lord will look out for him. ...... I can't picture a very tall man seated in such a small car.

Galaxy ...... Sounds like you are making wise decisions with you vehicles.

Todd ..... I think your experience with durability of trucks is common. My 2002 truck has never had a mechanical problem. .... (There actually is one exception. I started it when Shelley's cat was under the hood breaking the serpentine belt and messing up the cat. ) .... The truck by the way was a gift from Shelley to me and she paid cash for it in 2002 when it was new. Her car is a 2004 and has had problems with its expensive electronic controls, but mechanically is a great shape.  It, too, was bought when it was new. ...... Back to trucks, they are typically o durable, I would prefer buying another if I had to. However, I doubt this truck will ever need replacing.

Ray .... Your split rail fence in WPF is terrific! .... Nice work! Thumbs Up

I'm still working on taxes. I'll do more of that this morning, and later get out in the warm Spring weather.

Tonight I'll get back to the layout.

Smile, everybody! Smile, Wink & Grin

Just got a call from the hospital, my Dad´s condition seems to be stable, which is good news - for the moment. My Mom wants the car back, so she can go back home (!) while my father is in the hospital. I flatly sad no to her - now she is terrorizing Petra and me with phone calls every 10 minutes. I am not answering those calls ...

Ulrich ..... Prayers for your Dad. The Lord will look out for him. ...... I can't picture a very tall man seated in such a small car.

That little car is surprisingly roomy inside. Of course, it´ll be just a three-seater when I drive it, but that´s with most cars.

Mornin' Everyone!

Zoe just a refill for the dark roast coffee please.

Just got home from church.  The funeral service for a Minister who passed away last week is being held there this morning.  I would still be there except I have to be out at the museum early afternoon for depot guide training.  I just went down to make sure the sound system is working for them.  The pastor that passed away was a acquaintance of mine and one of the finest human beings I have ever met.  He was in the Church of God in Christ denomination and I think every pastor in the denomination in this part of the country is down there this morning!  Got to see some students of mine that I haven't seen in a good many years while I was there.  The funeral will probably go on for a few hours and is set to start about 15 minutes ago.  I do wish I was able to stick around for the whole service.

Ulrich, my prayers for your Father, Mother, you and Petra, and your whole family!  Yep, best not to answer the phone for a bit if you know a certain party is calling.  Very sad...

Garry and Curt, thanks.  The scene is slowly getting done.

Have a great day!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer pleases.

Work Front It was sort of busy and slow day at the same time. By 1:00 PM we had $7,000.00 in the shop and $3000.00 was mine. Then after 2:00 PM, it just died? Huh? Fine with me, I was getting off at 5:00 but was able to skate out at 4:00 instead! Big Smile Works for me! Cool I left before my last ticket was cashed out, but I should made around $140.00 extra today. My alignments jobs where great today, I beat the shop budget by my self! Heck even Tyler told me "Good Job" and gave me a high five.

Ulrich, best wishes for your family and glad to hear your father is doing better.

Well I am beat, these odd hours I keep have me worn out.

 Later, Ken

Evening guys

Been messing with trains all day. I ran my TOFC cars and open autoracks at the train club to see how well they worked. It took some fiddling but I did get it to go around without coming off the tracks (the track work is pretty bad). Turns out the issue getting around the club's turns with my modified Athearn BB 85' flats (A-line end weights) was the athearn trucks. They would hit the inside of the side of the car. Changing the trucks to Accurail's and MDC's worked fine, as they aren't as thick. So I have 7 loaded autoracks followed by about 10 TOFC cars, then my weathered BNFE reefer, SP High-roof box, and my CP 63' Centerbeam. All pulled by my 2 Genesis F45s and 2 P2K SD45s (probably only need 1 or 2 locos). I may switch it for the open house in a few weeks to my GP15, 38Xs, 38-2s, and  GP30.

Speaking of the GP30, When I opened the box at the club (I keep it with me), I noticed one fan was missing (may have fell out into the nether region when I opened it) along with my rear-mounted horn (On a stand near the missing fan. When I got home, I looked for the fan but no luck. I found some fans from an Atlas SD35 and those seem to work alright. Then I have been putting together a McKean ACF box. I ran out of my Ambroid Pro-weld so I tried some Laquer thinner. Seems to work well and it doesn't seem to affect paint. It just dries really fast and may need multiple applications to work on big joints.

Ulrich, Prayers for your dad and the rest of your family.

Rob, One of the Air Force guys around here (IIRC, he's a gaurd dog handler) has a mini. But he chopped it (Hotrod thing), so it's even shorter than normal.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evening All,

Never made it to the club tonight. My daughters family came over around 2 PM and we watched the boys play in the pool and later I grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone. There is something to be said for having grandkids. I'm just getting a late start at it.

Go back to w**k tomorrow so I will talk to you Tuesday or Wednesday.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Evenin' folks!

Janie just a cup of decaf please.

Today has been a busy one where little got accomplished around here.  Wasn't even home most of the day.  The training session for Depot Guides was interesting, and is the first attempt to "improve" the visits for guests...  I did learn a couple odd facts about some of the exhibits out there.  But not a whole lot of really new info.  Good idea to get everyone on the same track, so to speak, for working with the public.

Got home and finished the attendance spreadsheet the handicapped Troop and Pack need to turn into the group that funds the Scouts who qualify in the units.  Had to make a couple calls to check on info, and have now sent the document to the other Commissioner to have him check it over before I forward it on the District Executive who needs it for a meeting later this week.

I also figured I better fill up the PiP with the stuff that comes from dead dinosaurs before taking off to go to the Batavia Train Show tomorrow.  I had 20¢ off per gallon at the supermarket here in town so went there.  I will be working the NMRA Division Table for the day.  The Secretary of the Division will also be working with me.  If any of you should happen to be there, stop by and say hello!  Oh, the trip out to the Museum today cost me some major MPG on this tankful.  When I hit the NYS Thruway I had averaged 92mpg on this tank of gas.  By the time I got home it was down to 73....  Bummer. Laugh  Had to put 6 gallons in it to fill up after only 438 miles on the tank...

Ulrich, hope you can find a way to get the little VW!  I also hope you love the car....  Glad to hear your Dad has stabilized and is hopefully on the mend!  Keeping all of you in my prayers!

Curt, grandkids sure are great, aren't they!  And at the end of the day you get to give them back...  A few days ago granddaughter #2 was giving my son a hard time and had to be punished.  I couldn't help giving him the old Bill Cosby line...  "Having a little trouble there huh, son?  Ha,ha,ha!"

I am going to get my evening bloodwork done and hit the sack.  I will have to be on the road before 7AM tomorrow to get to the train show to set up on time.

Have a good evening all.

Hellooooo gang! Cowboy

Wow, wild day here. 1st, beauuuuutiful weather, 60 and sunny sunny day. Gave the Impala its 1st real bath since December, then a quick wax. Shines like a penny. Then there were 4 boxwoods the SWMBO wanted removed, and we also planned the new front landscaping. Well 3 of the 4 boxwoods we were able to cut off slightly below grade after a bit of digging, but 1 fell  smack inline with the new retaining wall. Surprise So roots and all, it had to come out. So we dug out what we thought was a sufficient amount, hooked a sturdy rope around the root and the big Deere and proceeded to pull.  No go, broke a 1 inch rope!!Sad Dug some more ti finally we could wiggle the stump. Tried again gently pulling with the tractor,,Still no dice. SO I gave the tractor some more throttle, then dumped the clutchMischief. Big John let out a groan, then the root burst from its hole and rocketed after the tractor, flying though the air, flipping end over end and spraying dirt everywhere, coming to a rest just off to my left side!!Surprise Never saw a root system fly til today, good thing I had a 50ft rope huh??Laugh

Curt, Ray, yes, grandkids are great! Especially when you can wind them up and send them home! Mischief

Ulrich, Keeping you and yours on the prayer list.  Don't fret the tall guy in a little car thing. My 1 son is 6ft 7 and drives a Ford Contour. (About 3 inches longer than an Escort)

Galaxy. Watch the ravings about the new Drier!!! If SWMBO saw that,,,,oh I can hear it now....HE knows how to run a washer and drier,,,why can't YOU,,,,you're down the basement anyway!! WinkMischiefSmile, Wink & Grin

Well, I think my arms are falling off,, gonna go relax in front of the idiot box!

Cya!

I got the grass mowed today. That's $30 in my pocket. This morning I found an old 3D Pinball game on my old 80G WinXP drive (now an external USB/EIDE data storage drive). I set up a shortcut so I can access it from my start page. It's a 32 bit program and it had a couple of minor hiccups running under 64 bit but I was able to reconfigure it successfully. I played it several times before I shut everything down and took off to cut the grass. We had a power failure this afternoon about 4:40. A large pine tree fell across the road about a quarter mile from here, about halfway between here and the Spillway Park and took the power lines down with it. The power was out an hour and a half. Once the line crew got on scene they had the lines back up in record time. My computer was on at the time the power went out. It took a little while to restart later but it did restart without incident. I guess it had a real mess to clean up as I had been online at the time with eleven tabs open. I did lose a little unsaved information but that was to be expected.

Well it's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evening All.

Well this is my weekend off, but was not a pleasant Saturday. Had to go to a funeral service for a friend from work, who past away unexpectedly last week. His wife has MS, and his son is a real loser, convicted felon. And no other family in Nevada, they all live in So. Cal. A very sad day. I have had enough of people passing away these past five months, I want it to stop.

I am hoping to get some layout w**k done tomorrow, if no emergency occurs. Plan is to do some ballasting, plant some weeds, and detail a scene or two. Maybe even make up a train or two.

Ulrich - prayers for your dad, as well as you and Petra.  And prayers to everyone else in need.

Whistling

Hi Crew,

I'm just heading for bed. Work again in the am.

Just thought I would show you what kind of a winter we have had.

Get yourself a nice warm drink and slip into your wooly slippers and flannel PJs, then sit back and enjoy.  Lol.

            Stuck train last week
pictures of the CP freight train stuck in the snow about  a quarter mile south of Blake and Mary Holden's farm near Senlac, SK. The engineer spent the night with them.

Thanks,  someone stole the four pictures........................

Sweet dreams all,  Prayers and blessings to those in need.

Lunchtime!

I just enjoyed a small steak & salad - yummy!

The phone terror continued this morning. My Mom was calling every 5 minutes. I informed the nursing home and they took care of it by arranging for medical attention.

We will escape from that this afternoon by visiting some friends. Hope I find the time for a little snooze before we hit the road.

Have a good one!

Good morning. It's 59° with 99% humidity. It will be cloudy with a high of 75°.

No plans for today except to relax and take it easy. My sinuses are being a real pain today. I've already had one coughing fit so bad I had muscle cramps around my sternum. Man that hurts! I may get around to running some trains later.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and the Sunday Breakfast Buffet please. Thanks.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 69.

Looks like they took the rain and pushed it out of the days forecast until tonight. Good. Maybe I can get outside today and start some cleanup. It sure is beautiful out there now I tell you what. Problem is, it’s Sunday and Sunday is a no burn day. I planned on doing it yesterday but it was windier than all get out thereby turning a burn day into a no burn day.

I really wanted to spend today in the basement doing you know what. However I dilly dallied around enough this week I might not be able to do that at all, let alone most the day. Oxen in the ditch sorta thing you know. Oh well, I won’t w*rk too hard I’m sure.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!
