Wow that's unreal.....

I can picture them busting into people's basements with search warrants making sure you pay the royalties for the strech of CSX mainline you're modeling.....

This is starting to get a little silly.

As long as you are modeling CSX or a predcessor in your basement, you have no worries. Non-profit clubs have no worries either.
Now if you have a for-profit display, and are advertising it as a CSX or predecessor road, you may have a problem. However, if you use commercially available and licensed equiptment, I don't see how they can enforce it.

Guys,

Unlike UP, this doesn't appear so "horrid". It shows clearly that they're not trying to profit from modelers as it's more in protecting the logo and trademarks. I doubt if it will be long before NS, KCS, and other roads jump on the bandwagon. If model manufacturers are going to be charged, then it would likely be "pennies for every few dollars". If they want to stay in business, I doubt if they'll jump on the "price gouging" wagon, especially with Athearn having been caught being "greedy".

I don't like it, and the rest of us don't like it, but as I mentioned on other threads, many of us already buy sports, disney, and movie items that have a considerable markup for licensing and royalties. We could buy two UP P2K locomotives on the web for the price of an NFL jacket at some of the "Sporting goods" stores at the mall!

So Amigos, don't sweat it and avoid the stress! Enjoy the hobby and model any road you wish, yes, including yesterday's hero / today's villain the UP.

Thanks for the info Dougal, still good to know what's going on!

"I like my Pullman Standards & Budds in Stainless Steel flavors, thank you!"

"USE: Non-Profit manufacturers and distributors of model train equipment and ancillary materials; apparel; memorabilia; house-hold and decorative items; shops; clubs."

These are people who sell the products, but whose orginization is legally "non-profit".
Campus bookstores fall into this catagory, for example - they sell books above the cost of the book, but are still usually considered a "non-profit" orginization.

This does not apply to home or club layouts unless you are selling CSX stuff !

When all else fails, read the directions !!!

BTW - spreading false information about a person or orginizaion (even in terms of a "joke") in a public forum CAN be grounds for a lawsuit!

Minuteman, Dougal and others beware!

Why do you think the Atlas Forum shuts these type of threads down at a certain point ???

Dougal,

You need to calm down, stop using so many capital letters and exclamation points, and read the material more closely.

No one is going to try to charge you for running CSX models in your basement.

That's not what the document says.

Posts like this serve no useful purpose and get everyone who doesn't bother to check the link all excited for nothing.
