Well here it is Easter Sunday in Queensland, the football season has just started for 2005, the rest of the country has gone off daylight saving (we don't have it in Queensland were too backward) and it makes it hard for us being out of kilter with the rest of the country. Its autumn and the fall equinox is behind us and its still to hot to were a T shirt or sox.

All the best to evryone for Easter 2005 from down under.

Yes HJ I tried all that as best as i could and no one came back to me. I don't even want them to deliver to me I will pick it up anywhere in Germany.

However finally I have got someone who will at least talk to me so that i can sort it out before I get there only 2 1/2 hours away from Bremen.

So we will see how that goes. Rene gave ne two contacts and neither of them would even reply to me, finaly one did and then would not answer any more emails after the first one; that was Lok shop. However I tried again with the second one and we are now getting somewhere.

Ian,

I don't see the problem!

Here's what I would do (all in English, never mind the German!)

Gentlemen,

Please quote prices on the following for May/June 2005 delivery to Bremen.

XYZ xxxx; XYZ xxxx; XYZ xxxx; XYZ xxxx; XYZ xxxx; XYZ xxxx;

Payment will be by "Whatever CreditCard"

Please state shipping charges separately, shipping by DHL.

Then you surf the Internet to come up with the required dealers or you use LGB's dealer listing for Germany, send it to about fifteen dealers and see what happens. I have yet to experience not getting an answer from a dealer in Germany, but I've run into the problem with US dealers. And it ain't a language problem![;)][:)][:D]

OTOH we get almost daily inquiries for delivery to Macao, Nigeria, Singapore, Zimbabwe etc. etc. etc.and a slew of other fine places. Everyone of them being a hotbed of model railroading and the orders always running into real money. Wellllllllll, the Spamkiller on our machines have been trained to re-route those inquiries straight to the "Big Abyss".[;)][;)]

So make sure you specify precisely what you want, dealers are not crazy about wild goose chases.[:)][:)]

SURRENDER!!! HANDS IN AIR!!!! I GIVE UP!

I was just trying to say if we kept the friendly banter and off topic stuff in the Turbo's and Curmudgeon's threads, those who didn't like it would know to skip over them and not get offended! I'm willing to go with the flow!

Ian, remember, "MONEY TALKS, BULL*** WALKS"; find a deal and wave some money under thier noses, that ought to perk them up! If all else fails, I'm sure somebody on the forum who lives there could put together a deal and do it by proxy thereby leaving you only to pick up the goods and run with them after handing over the requisite amount of ca$h! Another alternative is to pick them up at a US dealer on your way through sometime!

Hi Ian,
I think LGB are strictly authorised agents only. If you haven't got a trading deal with them they will not even speak to you, as you are finding out. Try to find a model shop on the net near where you are going to be and give him an advance order, if the deal is right.
Cheers,

Hi Ian,

When ordering in Germany it helps to

a) order from a dealer who is fluent in English

OR

b) have someone translate your order. It helps tremendously if the translator knows the ins and outs of LS since it is different from ordering electronics, automotive stuff or sausage casings[;)][}:)][:D][:D] AND is familiar with the general business practices in Germany.

On the "evilBay" score: many of us are willing to exchange some info, most of us are loathe to get into the nitty-gritty of someone elses "mistake".
On eBay, like everywhere, "Buyer beware" rules. Or, you need to ask your own questions and make up your own mind if you like the answer. [;)][:)][:D]

Hi all,[:)][:D]

On the RhB / Swiss Trains Forum we have a section called "The Village Fountain (ChitChat) ---If it doesn't fit anywhere else".

The village fountain was/is the typical place in the mountains where the latest "news" would make the rounds.
Here in NA one could call it "The General Store Coffee Table", same quaint idea. [;)][:D]

If you plow into a whimsical thread far enough and then find that it's taking an annoying twist, you just don't revisit it. But if the thread is about some other pertinent subject and gets hijacked with silly references to lord-only-knows-what, then you owe it to the forum to try to get the thread back on track by trying to cut off the foolishness.

I agree with Rene, if you're going to start a new thread and it's not train related, label it O.T. (off topic) and try to stick to the thread topic. If while responding to a thread and feel the need to digress, start a new thread.

WOOW, this may NOT be worth it.
After finally recieving my 8 packets of people awhile back I thought, tonights the night. I shall install them.

After giving up on the obs car I thought the diner would look good with them,, pep.
well how they EVER got those cars together is behond me?????
I used a rubber mallet to brake it loose and then vise grips on the end that has the wire to the lights. (unpluged)
About half way off it got stuck, i was almost ready to give up but it suddenly broke loose.
Now after wiping up the blood off the car and getting my finger bandaged. I continued. I was so hot from the fight that I stripped down to my speedos. U.P. yellow.

I also realized how the HOT GLUE gun got its name.
Boy the people sure looked nice. Even a lady sitting on the table talking to her friend.
I need some stand up people or waiters would be nice.
Now the next half hour was spent tring to get it together. And yes with the pressure came the blood again from my figure.

From now on I decided its just not worth it.
Back when I did my dome cars they came right apart and back together.

Just thought I'd share this before you think about buying any more folks for the cars.

Is it REAL? or Just 1:29 scale?

Interesting.

Make it 26.

My favorite hobby sites, usually have a seperate forum specifically for out of topic converstations. I like those sites, because there's more of a feeling of a community.

I'm making an assumption that when you get with your train friends in the world, that you do make "small talk" in addtion to talking trains.

I've moved from NScale to LS. I used to visit 2 NScale sites. One I abonded upon the move. Why? Only NScale talk was allowed. I didn't abandon the other site. Why? Off topic conversation is encouraged. There's a lot of "friends" there. The "friendships" I have there transcend nscale and trains.

Just my 2 bits.

The best part of all of this is we are discussing a subject like adults. With as diverse of a group as we have, it is amazing that we get along like we do. I have learned so much about trains in three months, I have move up in the HO world to better quality, I understand quality in O and G worlds, and enjoying playing trains with my kids. It is great to see everyone talking and having a good time.

I enjoyed

the submarines

the weather, (it's raining again here)

the work photo's (thanks matt)

the kind prayers and thoughts for my son (thanks again)

the COFFEE (or smoothies, or tea, or soda, or hard liquor)

the stories

and mainly the information from all. THANKS

FYI: for other discussion boards I've been on, the general term for posting a message that's not topic related is to put: OT: xxx your subject here xxx.

Ah, but if the thread is titled "Coffee", and you don't want to read about coffee, but you do anyway, THEN you have no right to clomplain!
Like someone who gets an e-mail saying "click here for the latest (deleted)" and you know you HATE that stuff, but do you have the right to click on it then complain when you knew what you were doing?
Not really a fine line at all.

Kim,

Right on! I'll say it again, if you don't like it, don't read it, simple. However, I think any of us has the right to express his or her opinion on any reasonable subject. Example, if I find constant references to choice of beverage annoying, and I do, I should have the right to say so. I think a response along the lines of "I think this thread is interesting and here's my input .......................... but please stop making goofy coffee references". No one should take offense at that, it's my opinion and the next respondent can either honor it or ignore it.

We all have a common ground, the garden RR. We are also older, wiser (well, some of us) and better off financially. We have established families, careers and outlooks on life. Some of us are leaders in our communities, or occupy other influential positions. This invariably will lead to digressions in the topics. I can live with that, but perhaps we do need to stay a little more focused. I enjoy learning about the other members of this forum; it gives us a sense of community. The “off topic” thread seems to be doing well, I read the last 3 or 4 posts and if I have something to add I will. I don’t think posting a new topic every time an off topic idea pops into the head is a good way of doing business, adds to the clutter.

I like Matt’s work related topic, if we can add our lines of work to that, who would be offended? Good idea, Matt, I would like to know what every one here does for a living, but could you imagine if we each started our own personal work threads?

I frequent another forum over at British Only Motorcycles, what a dead zone that is. Topics like "does part xy123 fit a 72 bike?" gives about 3 or 4 responses then dies. No body talks about a nice ride they took, or a family outing, or anything other than strictly bike related topics. BORING! But informative if you actually own a Brittish bike. I don't know any of those contributors, and I really don't want to. I hope it never gets dull like that in the garden forum, that's when I'll pack up my toys and go home.

Perhaps we should have a committee of die hard garden railroaders and put every topic before them and they can decide whether it gets posted and under what title. They could then pick the forum members who can answer/add to that topic and if they step out of line or somebody joins in without orders then they will be sent somewhere where they can't interfere. Bugger me, wasn't this done somewhere in Europe last century.
Get a grip guys, read it if you want, don't if you don't want. We've been here before, let's not go there again.
Cheers,
Kim
