Introduction to me
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, May 8, 2004 3:47 PM
Hello fellow Gs

My name is William Pugh, been in G scale 3 yrs still wet behind the ears.
I have been lurking to see if this nice place could be a better one than the other I have been to.
I live really in Rosharon, Texas USA which is 35 miles South of Houston, Texas but since no one knows of Rosharon I just put Houston in light of Janet at the superbowl[xx(]
I love landscaping and that is what I do for a job.
Just email me questions, I will be here for awhile, seems like a nicer place [:)]

Welcome to the forum Bluebonnet,

Seems we got quite a few Texans now on this forum, were a pretty easy bunch of people to talk too, any questions ask, any experience to share, just jump in.

Later, Vic[8D]

   Have fun with your trains

Hello WIlliam,
If three years makes you wet behind the ears, where does that leave me? I just broke ground yesterday on my first Garden layout. I've been modeling in HO for years. I'm 40 and have been married for only two years. I would sit in the back yard around our fire pit and tell my wife how nice a garden railroad would look back there, she showed mild interest. That all changed this winter when we saw "Whistle Stop Gardens" on HGTV. She said, "We gotta do that." I said, "Yes, Ma'am" and started planning. Two weeks ago I bought some track and started laying out some basic designs. We settled on one we like and I've started cutting out the subroad bed. I'm looking forward to building a railroad with a pick and shovel. How did you become interested in Garden Railroads? Will you incorporate operation into your layout or just make it a display?

Thanks Vic and Jim
Well Jim I am still playn with the big boys over in Alvin, Tx. near the old depot and it is how I got the nick name Bluebonnet. I think I slept there most part of the war because BNSF was trucking them Military vehicles down to Galveston, Tx to the port.
Now I am back on landscaping because weather is much better and this year I want more homes to do. See it is simple to me, service the people well and use no harmful products anyways.......shout my mouth on that
Jim asked " How did I become intersted in GR?" Well, in do to the shakes I have with my hands small railways I could not see me rebuilding a loco or caboose, just anything that did not look right that came from factorie. Add ons as I call them.
And shoot, you can run them when you want.
Myself I would like to computerize (is that a word?) my track. See no track yet but still layn track @ a hobby store. I see all kinds of stuff there.
I have 10 acres major parts wooded. Now near house, oh boy!!
I think in steps like others ie:
Phase I: Near the house
Phase II: Near the pond
Phase III: In the woods where a walk way can be added to see nature (nature trail) this would be handy for the computer to come in at.
Really, my heart is still with the Santa Fe, just drop BN. As a kid I watched them for hours. Never got a train track for Christmas for all those years I asked.

Jim " I'm looking forward to building a railroad with a pick and shovel."
You thought of a ditchwitch? I am not sure how deep or how much room you have just a sugestion. We all only have 1 back, plase don't hurt yours like mine is.

Hey Bluebonnet and Vic,
I said I'd be using a pick and shovel, but I have a small cultivator that I bought from Sears to turn over my vegatable garden, I'll be using that to dig my trenches. The initial layout is going to be put down without road bed for a month or so. We are going to put the track down and do the plantings in containers. We want to see how everything looks together before I put the gravel in and build any bridges. Phase I is going to be a simple loop that snakes through a stand of pines in the right corner of our yard, about a hundred feet of track. I was born near Pittsburgh Pa, (Steeler fan in Patriot country, pray for me.) I took my wife to Horseshoe curve and she loved it. The sound of those big motors pulling up the hill, the ground shaking, plus the squeal of the flanges on the corner is quite a thrill. We decided to try to recreate some part of the curve in our Garden Railroad. Phase II will be adding a second loop to run parallel with the first through the curve. Phase III will be an extension into the other corner of the yard and running into the side yard. Phase III is slated to begin the summer after next. Question: If I am doing a double track "S" curve, should I do the curves the same on each sid eof the curve? In other words, if one part of the S uses 10' and 12' curves, should the next part be 12' and 10', or could I go 10' and 8'? Did that question make any sence? I know what I want to ask, but may be having trouble writting it out.

Hey Brian,

For a moment there I thought you misspelled a word (bullit holes), but then I realized that you were typing so quickly and missed two letters. [;)][:o)][;)][:)]

BTW I meant to ask: How's them mosquitters this year, eh?? If you get too much rain, please send it our way. We need the stuff!

HJ,
No real amount of rain here. A few showers but not much more. Our "Provincial Bird" the mosquito has not been seen yet this year. Good deal from where I am. No I was not typing too fast...just being polite. "Be nice" mama always said....or was that Thumper's mother in Bambi??? Whatever...taking advantage of the dry weather to get things in order here. Gonna' add some new line this year and run in through the basement window. Now we're off topic. Enjoy the forum...I am. Later eh...Brian.
