Buckeye - this is for you buddy! Got a lot done today. Went across town and ordered some 5 ft sling cables that will allow me to remove 10 ft of cable from my boat lift winding pipe and reduce the torque on it substantially when the boat is fully up. A toilet tank seal (Kohler) failed last night, so found a local plumbing supply with Kohler parts in stock on the other side of town. Got the parts installed in about 20 min. SWMBO is pleased she (me too!) does not have to go down the hall in the middle of the night. Helped a neighbor spread some topsoil in exchange for him running his mower over my lawn - and helped him change the tire on the mower when he got a flat from something in my lawn (we are searching for that). While driving around the ms and me hit a grocery store she likes for the week's supplies (did i say wine run?). To cap it off we grilled salmon out on the back porch and enjoyed adult beverages.
So who had time for all this when we were working????
Phish - hope I got this right - 40 vs 60 hrs per week sounds like a good deal? Assume you do not get OT for the 60, or does the new training position have an increase? Good luck regardless on your decision!
DonB - good news for me is he is not into all that heavy duty off roading! Interesting idea about the wireless cam and an iPhone app!
Kev & Brent - I solved the bird window strikes - dont wash them (SWMBO not pleased about that).

We had a nice rain during the night to water the plants we set out. Hopefully it will dry enough over the weekend to get the grass cut. I’m working late tonight to cover the night supervisor because he wanted to watch his boy play a playoff game. Not sure how late I’ll be.
I bought a tin plate Marx Set on Ebay. It is a nice looking set with the 999 loco. For outright durability it is really hard to beat the Marx trains. After I see what it is like I may keep it or give it to my buddy who likes the New York Central trains as I’ve got a bid on another set with the 666 loco. It is not tinplate but it is nice and I won’t keep both. It was his pre-war American Flyer that I worked on a few weeks ago.

Roy, I'm sure there are some very cost effective alternatives. (I'm working with the Insane Audio system).
- You probably have one of those wireless cameras laying around. (If not I do) The 9v battery type. This way eliminate all the wiring issues. I'm sure he has a 120v outlet, then could connect the receiver up with it. Then all that would be needed is an "App" for his phone.
Wait till he decides he needs Grid Plates, additional exterior lighting, and it goess on & on & on. When did you say you were going back to work.

We too have a large front window that birds try suicide on, some get up and fly away, some don't. Our Saturday club meet was well attended and the video link is on OGR. It's probably a couple pages back by now.

88, Try these on your windows to stop bird strikes. The wife had me install them here and they work. We used to get bird hits all the time.

been an up and down week.
A little porch work, Need to make a new base for the wood column and re install it, remove the temp post and it'll be ready for paint.
Went to the viewing for the racer. didn't know him personally but wanted to pay my respects.
Last evening Mrs & I were stood up by the financial guy we were supposed to see. Something came up, rescheduled for monday. Then Accension Thursday Vigil Mass followed by watching grandson's team lose 15-9. (Some scores get pretty high due to poor pitching)
As soon as the rain quits I'm gonna light the brush pile thats been growing. Broke down and hired a guy to cut the 3 large ash that are dead. Just don't trust myself any more. Sunday (not real happy to do it Mothers Day but thats when he's available) he's going to put them on the ground. The rest is up to me (and some friends)
Sounds like the rain slowed.

Busy day at work. Nice weather for noon walk. Went to see "Rampage" with the Rock in it. Pretty good action flick with better ending than Avengers. Got my schedule for the team I will be playing for in that All American sport this summer. I hope everyone has a good day.

It's been awhile since I posted, but just didn't have a lot to post about.
Really enjoyed Mr & Mrs Buckeye's visit! Wish it would have been longer, but didn't want them to miss the ship. Ironically we took a cruise to Alaska a few years ago and were on the same ship.
Kay and I are doing great, she has been spending A LOT of time tending to her Mom and Dad. I don't know how she does it. He is still in the rehab hospital, probably another 10 days more. Total he's been hospitalized for over 2 months know. The current situation is that upon release he will need home care 24/7. Kay and her Mom have been talking to potential providers today. In the meantime her Mom is developing Alhiemers, and having memory/mental problems. She's never been very strong anyway, never had a job, and has a very small world. Of course she cant reconcile someone living in their house with them. So its not going to be easy for awhile.
In the meantime I've been killing time in the train room, looking at making some mods, 1 of which would require buying a switch. Contacted Ross, but they can't ship anything until the end of next week, because the owner is on vacation. ???? So think I will just scrap that idea. Also been working on Chris' FJ. The radio died so he got a new one ($1000), the rear view camera is not compatible with the new radio. After I spent 2 days trying to get it to work, called the manufacturer and they said the camera was not compatible. So will have to get a new one, surprisingly they are not that expensive. Should have done that first. Might as well get two, one for the front (rock camera). As big as the FJ is, a front camera would definetely be a big advantage when off roading. And since installing one might as well do both. The rear of course is activitated when its put in reverse, the front needs to be on a switch. He has 3 sets of optional external lights, (Bumper spot lights, roof LED bar, and a lit whip antenna). Each of these are on switches near the driver seat. The FJ has a rocker switch panel that has about 7 openings, so the right way would to get some rocker switches and control them there including the camera. The after market has illuminated rockers realy cheap $4/5 each. They have some neat graphics, "Saskwatch Light", "Alien Lights", Front Camera, Missle Launcher, and they are specially for this switch panel. Even includes rear connector and wire harness. Checked on what it would cost to have it installed (camera's) $500 !! So I will give it a shot.
From what I read it seems you all are doing pretty well, other than a little poison ivy, too many Saturdays, and too much yard work.
So just stay healthy and be careful.

Good Morning from a beautiful sunny 58°F Southern Ohio,
Stopped by RK and picked up more mulch and a mineral block. I’m seeing the bucks are starting sprout antlers so what was left of the last block will not last long. The high school baseball team lost a playoff heart breaker, 1-0. Now Gabriel will hit the weight room hard until Summer Basketball starts. As a 15 year old freshman he is 5-11 and a rock at 188 pounds. He want to be at 195 by fall football. To want is one thing, to get it takes work.
I’ve been asked to consider taking a training job at work. The up side would be a 40 hour work week instead of the scheduled 60 hours I work now. Something to consider and pray about.
Weather forecast is calling for rain on Friday, if so I may start removing the wallpaper from the soon-to-be train room.
Mike - I too change my own oil. I’ve heard too many horror stories of quick lube rip offs.
Doug - those appetizers sound really good!
Fife - Using the flooring is a great idea.

A strange day. Voted. Took van for oil change. Made mistake of letting wife use van when I could have been done with it in 20 minutes or less. Got a late start on mowing yard as a result. Took 2.5 hours. Did I mention I took an hour plus walk earlier in the day? Did watch a "footie" that I recorded earlier. Weather was great. Did find some keys I had lost earlier and took things from grandfather's store to historical society for a display on old downtown stores. I hope everyone has a good day.

I feel your pain Chief. We, or should I say the BetterHalf, hosts their Bunco Group once a year and that is more than enuff for me. Almost need some real good ear muffs what with all the hootin-n-hollerin going on. Yesterday most of my day was spent in the kitchen fixin some appetizers for her to take to last nights game. Bacon-n-cheddar deviled eggs and bacon wrapped jumbo shrimp with jalepenos, unfortunately there were no leftovers when she came home.
Ordered some parts from Lionel this morning, they are slower than stink off of you know what for sending a confirming e-mail. Finally getting around to starting the sound upgrade for the Hogwarts Express. Had purchased most of the parts quite some time back but other issues pushed it way to the back burner. Putting in the sound board from the Shakespeare Express for the English style whistle as opposed to the sickly air whistle that came with it, the only way to get that whistle to work just so so is really overload the loco so the power has to be cranked way up. Can you say really shortened engine life that way.

Fife - what I like about your road is it is easy to screw things into it. My old layout with the 1/2 foam on it made attaching stuff challenging.

Beautiful weather day. Doctor's visit went as expected. She recommended more drugs and I went along as they were generic. Won't change anything until I retire. Went to see Avengers. No big surprises. Some humor. Went to help junior high soccer coach with practice but no kids showed up. Go figure. Watched Izombie tonight. Good episode. I hope everyone has a good day.

It was two weeks ago Saturday I got into it.
It is in only two places on my arms and it has not gotten worse. I have been using a product called Ivarest Poison Ivy itch Cream. it seems to work the best of all of the stuff I have tried and I have tried a lot of stuff. It seems to be getting better the last few days and does not bother as much as in the first week.
I have a 6 month check up Dr apt next week and if it is still going on I will request the same prednisone I used after I got it in TX.
At this point I do not think it is systemic poison ivy because it has not spread past the contact area. Also I have not developed headache, nausea, vomiting, swollen lymph nodes, or fever. So I am thinking the best.

Roy, The last time I had poison Ivy was when I took that trip down to Springtown by you. Took 3 weeks to get over it that time. When I was a kid it did not bother me at all. Sucks to get old.
The problem this time is that there were no leaves on anything two weeks ago when we cut the brush along the lane and I contacted the sap when I was cleaning up so I never knew I was in the stuff.
Roy - After last year's hurricane season, the price of plywood was pretty high. I can walk in a discount store (like Ollie's) and pick up a box of 10 planks for $24; less if I can scoop up some mix-and-match loose planks. Easy to work with, smooth to cut, and no splinters. Doesn't look like a 1/16 inch of foam (white or green), but it has just enough to muffle the hollow sound. The only unknown will be warping over time, on the elevated areas.

Kev - the poison ivy is bad. The last time I got it - it took weeks for my arm to heal up. I steer way clear of it now. I have a friend that can handle it bare handed and absolutely no impact.
