Afternoon all!

Low 40's and headed into the 30's today. News and weather sites can't agree on whether we will get freezing precipitation tonight/tomorrow or not. I vote 'not'.

Watching the daughters dog this weekend while she takes a trip with BF.

Chief - glad your daughter is doing well after the surgery!

Dougnotta - glad the drugs have not impacted your sense of humor!

Banks - CLINKER!!

Regards, Roy

DougDG, Man!! those falls are scary.  Please take care of yourself.

Chief, happy to hear your daughter is doing better and coming home. Prayers.

Since I have been living alone, I hardly ever get anyone at the door.  Got a couple of folks today trying to carry the message as they see it.  Tried to be civil and wished them well.

Had grits and eggs plus left over ham for breakfast.  Yummy!

Crohns problem better today but not out of the woods yet.  Hoping I will be well enough to eat out tonight with a friend.

As people with pools know, they are a curse when you get older and the kids are grown up and gone.  You still have to maintain the dang thing even if you don't use it.  Still on the fence about filling it in. Might affect the resale value of the house if I have to move out at some point.  Adding chemicals and vacumning it isn't so bad but I need help taking the filter apart and cleaning that.  My son help's when he's available but won't be for a couple of weeks.  Meantime the backpressure got too high from taking in dirt that I had to backwash it.  I can do that but it kicks out the diatamacious earth that was used for filtering so now I'm just recirculating water but not filtering until we can recharge the filter.  I got a pool cleaner to do this once but they did a lousy job so I got turned off on that.

Hope everyone has a good New Year and help with whatever ails you.

Ray

Phish - It's the blue and gold Washington.  Just the engine, not the set.  I will try the spring as you suggested.  Thanks.  It is running good for now.  I'm very happy with this loco.  Will be keeping eyes open for era-appropriate rolling stock at future shows.  Maybe even Sam the semaphore man.  Still need to fix the 303...

Started the process of "waking" my Proto 2.0 engines.  They've been boxed up dormant for over a year now.  I use the plug in charger for a day, then set them loose on the main line.

Good Afternoon,

Glad to hear some are doing better, hope if follows suit with all.

Been a low key day, got a haircut, and played with trains a little today.

Planned on taking down the outside decorations today, but didn't make it.  Probably take them down the first of the week.

Ray,  Since you have already Backwashed the pool, I don't see why you can't just add some diatamacious earth now.  I would only put in 3 or 4 lbs until you get the grids clean and then recharge it with the full quantity.

Can't get excited over the Rose Bowl game this year, but it should be good weather anyway.

Not much else going on, hope everyone has great New Year's Eve, and New Years.

Don

Hello there,

wupped. Spent most of the day outside. Put chains on tractor. Plowed snow, shoveled walks and got about half the remaining coal in before my body said stop.

Got both TCA magazines yesterday. I always like to peruse the exchange. Any of you ever buy anything there?

Off to bed soon.

Prayers for those in need

Spent the day at sister-in-law's place.  Did get some shopping done as well.  Very Cold in Indiana.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Last day of '17 boys.  Woke up to 4 degrees and partly cloudy skies in the Potomac Highlands.  Long day today; running 2 murder mystery trains later on.  Better slip into the thermals too.  I would still like to see the Orient Express movie in the theatre, soon.

Even though we're ending on a sad note, can't say that this year has been a bad one for Fifey.  New home, new grandson, new soon-to-be SIL, new layout, and working for the WMSR.

Wants list for '18: to get lean & mean; to actually put the yatchett in the water and go sailing; pay some bills off; and most importantly, spend time with my love, my friend, my wife.

Have a safe and happy  New Year's Eve , and I'll catch you all on the flip side.

A nice bright and sunshiny 2 degrees this morning here in the middle of Mo.

KRM - I agree.  The seat of a tractor while plowing snow is the coldest place on earth.

Thoughts and prayers for those recovering from falls, surgery, sled landings, etc.

We went out and stocked up on enough supplies so we won't need to leave the warm house for the next few days, though my wife does need to go to work this afternoon.  Will have to walk the dog yet today.  Cold enough that we will only will get about a mile in.

Getting back into my bathroom re-modeling project.  Finished up the drain plumbing yesterday.  Going to start working on the supply piping today.  Call me weird, but I think it is fun to work with sweated copper pipe.  With my wife going to work this afternoon, shutting off the water in the house to tap in the new piping won't be an issue.

About all for now.

Happy New Year

Afternoon all!

27 and falling. Teens tonight. 28 high tomorrow. Nothing like what yuz guz up nawth are enduring - yeow! Some snowflakes and mist.

Ray - go to YouTube and search "add de to pool filter" - you will find lots of helpful videos on this, inc after back washing. DE is cheap and easy - just avoid breathing the dust which is a real fine powder. They even sell it in our grocery store here. Make sure to store the bag in a nice dry place.

Happy New Year everyone!

Regards, Roy

Good afternoon from a very cold North Bluff above Marseilles.

When I got up it was -4 may get to 4 if we are lucky then down to -14 for the new year.

Yeah it is cold here. Got to make the rounds, feed the deer and kick out the cat.

Good thing I have two rows of next year wood if I have to use it.

Yeah below 10 it is pretty much the same till you go past -9 then that is a whole new level of cold. I will never forget Jan of 93 when it got down to -22 and that is when the gas main broke in the street and screwed our house all up. Filled it with gas! We could of all been blown to he!! that night. Lucky I smelled the gas in the house and got us out. A house without heat for 12 hours at -20 leaves a lot of plumming work to be done with sweated copper pipe.  8N.Laugh

Oh yeah,,

Twenty-eight degrees here in the Richmond VA area, very unusual for us.  What makes it rough is last Wednesday we were in Florida and the temps were in the 80's!  I didn't much care for that either!

And Happy New Year all!

Hello there.

HAPPY NEW YEARS

Woke this AM in a 55 degree house. Found the switch that supplies the furnace had gone bad. Lit the gas fireplace and went to Mass. It was 6 degrees with a stff breeze when we left. Got a new switch at Ace Hardware on the way home  (quicker and warmer than rooting in the garage) It took the furnace and fireplace a couple hours to warm up the house .

Didn't attempt to finish the coal. The colder it is the harder the asthma hits me. The high today was 12.

8N.....I'm with you when it comes to copper pipe. Not sure of the condition of plastic in 20 years.

Our New Years celebration is over. Mrs has a cake in the oven. When it comes out we'll be off to bed.

Prayers for those in need.
