Good evening all,

Got back late Saturday night.  Friday at zoo was a lot of walking up and down hills.  Saturday at the LST 325 exhibit was quite good.  Museum visit took longer than we expected.   Trip home was windy.  Listened to the Phoenix race.  AJ's team had a rough night.   Dixon won.  Good to see Haas get points again as well.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

It was really good to talk to Don Baker today at TTOS.  To sum up about my wife, she has been in the hospital for 3 full days now and is still confined to the bed.  I expect the doctor will transfer her to a nursing home at some point.  Meantime, I have been getting some much needed rest.  I tried to take care of her myself for about two weeks with a little outside help but I'm all done now.  Have to turn it over to the pros and the man upstairs.  Thank you all for the prayers.  I hope I have some better news soon.

Chicago certainly lived up to being the Windy City this weekend - albeit without the snow that those to the north and east encountered.  Got some good train running time with Noah - and also worked on repairs to get the C&O 8204 tender I received as a child running with its Mighty Sound of Steam again.  Whistles great and chuffed on the bench, but something seems a bit amiss when chuffing on the track.  Will need to double check the tether in the coming days.  As a side question: does anyone know what adjustments each of the trim pots on the board make?

Good Morning from Sunny Southern Ohio,

Bride and kids back in school today.  The house is quiet.  Just me and the dogs.  With the proposed start date of the new job next week this will probably be my last week off.  I’ve got several things on my to-do list for today.

Don - Good to hear from you.  I believe you about being busy in retirement.  In the month I’ve been laid off I’ve been busier and a more packed schedule than when I was working.  Amazing how work gets in the way of things you’d like to do but don’t pay as well.

Roy/Dennis/8n - Most of the racing around here is dirt track.  There was a ½ mile oval about 3 miles from my house and during the racing season the sound would carry and you could hear the racing.

Fife- Good prank!  I’m going to keep that one in mind.

Banks - My mother-in-law fights the UTIs also, and with my bride being a nurse and nearby, she is the one taking care of her.  I believe taking care of our aging parents falls squarely into the Honor you Father and Mother, commandment, and being a corporal work of mercy.

Buckeye-Glad you’re back in buckeye land.  I was driving past the Portsmouth bypass and the amount of earth moving for the bypass is mind staggering.

Got to go

May God bless

Jim

Mornin' Fellas

Love reading about you retired fellas... makes me like working from home even more. Smile

Fife - nice joke!

Banks - that can't be easy with your Mom. Prayers it works out.

Don - Now we know 'Now why don't he write.' Smile TheQ is now the President of her sorority alumni chapter, and vice chair for the local ASQ chapter, still teaches for UoP, has 2 online webinars she does, teaches at MCCC when needed, and has a full-time job - AND tops it all off with a lot of mothering. I have committed myself to taking the kids out of the house at least one Saturday a month so she can recharge. I honestly have no idea how she does it, but we are starting to see the benefits of all her work. So best of luck to Chris! He has turned into quite an impressive man.

Need to get a York thread up...

Matthew is now 4 days accident free. Thumbs UpThumbs Up

Cloudy, feels like winter came back.

Saturday afternoon it snowed like a blizard but at 40 degrees it did not stick. I still haven't got use to the idea of Wild Bills Trains being closed, Elmer was the best repairman I ever knew but health issues change our lives.

Aloha. I can't believe it is winter here again after a weekend of wild weather (sun, winds, rain, hail, snow, repeat). Typically April but this is every day... Ah well, sending it all off to 'points east.' Had an enjoyable weekend - despite the weather - the highlight was spending quite a few hours in a local bookstore whilst my bride 'reunioned' with former nursing colleagues.

Fife, that was a great April Fools prank.
Brent and JT, it is sure a wonderful milestone when potty training is complete. I couldn't believe what $ was saved in diapers...

Like Brent and Dennis, I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to adopt 3 orphans as infants to build our family; now 24, 22 and 13!  Yes

Running boards arrived for the Durango today. Took all of 45 minutes to install after I figured out how to hold the bracket with one hand and assist the other hand with putting washers on bolts and nuts on the bolts... looks very nice (mud guards were last Friday), kids find it much easier to enter and egress the vehicle now!

Nice sunny day here - about 70.  Got the lawn mowed tonight.  My new company iPhone informs me that it is about 2000 steps to mow the lawn.

Amazing how good a workout the first lawn mowing provides.

The robot team also received the Genral Motors Industrial Design award at the meet last weekend.

Good Evening,

Wow two days in a row!  That's good for me!  Didn't go and work on the Dr's layout today, he was busy.  So stayed home and worked here, pulled weeds, yuk.  Chris and Kay have convinced each other to start bike riding.  Kay wants a new bike, we have two bikes we bought in the 80's, mine has 178 miles, hers has 66.  Got them out today and brushed them off some.  They do need new tires then they are ready to go.  But if she wants a new one that's OK, hopefully it would be used.

Thank you all for the nice comments it is appreciated.

J - I couldn't find anything on what the pots are for, will continue to look.  I would strongly recommend that you inspect the foam that is under the pcba.  After time they desintigrate and dont perform as an insulator very well.  Cause to the board to short out on the tender chassis.  Suggest you replace it with the double sided foam tape or any other material.  This has killed a lot of the SOS engines.

Also, on page 3-15, and 4-18 are exploded views of the engine, tender and parts lists.https://www.lionelsupport.com/service-documents/   (Download Product Supplements 1-9)

Banks, hope everything works out well for you, and York happens.

Tomorrow is tax prepday, hopefully not to bad.

Take care all be careful and stay safe.

Mornin' Fellas

Don - if you haven't riden the bikes in a long time, I would highly recommend taking them to a bike shop and having them replace the brake cables, pads, chain, tires, and lube the brake levers (not the handle levers, but the levers the pads attach to) and also true-up the wheels.

I have a mid-range Mt Bike that I hadn't riden since I moved to MD, I replaced the tires and tubes and headed out on trails behind the house - didn't make it very far and the brakes didn't seem right so I walked back to the house, loaded her up in the car and took her to the local bike shop (happens to be next to the local train shop - very convenient that is) guy gave her a good once over and all the above is what he did. Said it looked like she hadn't been riden in over 10 years - yep that would be me. Smile

Banks - prayers for your Mom. Hope everything works out and you'll be able to attend next Friday.

Good morning,

The driveway guy never came back. I called and asked if he was coming back he said no. Huh?  It was cold yesterday and will be today so I told him to wait till the weather gets better. No reason to freeze moving gravel around, I am in no hurry.

Fire in the fireplace yesterday evening. 30 now with sun but calling for cold and wet weather for the next week so I am going to lunch with Raj today and put a pot roast in the crocpot

Thanks for looking around - I could swear I've seen a post somewhere describing each pot's function.  One would logically be volume; not sure what the second could be.

The foam was indeed DOA when I opened it up a couple of months ago. Since I had already unknowingly run it to see if it worked, thought the board might have fried but thankfully it hadn't. I replaced the foam with a piece of cardboard cut from a Lionel switch box someone on Da Bay used for packing material. Will be a little surprise to someone 50 years from now when they open it again...Smile

Morning all - looks like I'm Mr. Mom today, as Noah came down with pink eye (again) at pre-school yesterday.   Congrats to Villanova - I don't watch a ton of college hoops, and that was a great game!  They peaked at the right time - let's hope my Blackhawks can do the same, starting with the 6-goal win on Sunday.

Really enjoying my new (to me) ZW-R - things run much smoother when compared to my V, which I think was being pushed a bit too much.  Just need to pull it apart now, replace rolllers and clean it up, then put it back into service handling accessories and the like.

Good Morning !

Spring has sprung ! Carlsbad flower field.

Busy couple of days followed by a couple of vegitative days. Not much happening on the train front. SWMBO has requested(informed) me that they want to set-up the train at the "Relay For Life" event this year. Didn't run'em last year since Mother Nature gave us some rain.

Opening Day yesterday ! Hopefully yesterday's result, a 15 to 0 loss, isn't an indicator of how the Padres season will go. Crying

Gotta get moving, will be running around most of the day.

Later all.

Good afternoon all,

Wife is being evaluated today for transfer from Hospital to a rehab facility on the same location.  If she qualifies, medicare will cover her for about 20 days or more.  Hope they can get her on her feet again.  Otherwise, I have to explore more long term care options.

I am getting some much needed rest since she has been four days in the hospital but I go sit with her at least two hours a day.  She looked a lot better yesterday and ate all her dinner.  Thank you all for the prayers.

Good evening all,

Not a bad first day back.   Pain Two was gone so that made it better.  Izombie was very good tonight.  Tried to order minutes for wife's phone and ran into all sorts of hassles.  Ugh.   Technology creates a vacuum.....  I hope everyone has a good day.

Morning all. Well York isn't going to happen for me this spring anyway. To many things blocking it. one is it looks like I should get me truck back from the dealer ship Monday or tuesday ( or as they say we hope ) because of my insurance company and the appraiser. It seems when my truck got vandlized like 2 years ago that they didn't fix it correctly . Kept getting ABS light coming on that didn't happen before the body shop that so called fixed it sait it was because of my front left hub that it needed replacing because it had 2 teeth like things well finally got around to taking it in and they got whoa your hub wouldn't do that. So they put in a new speed sensor no help then they noticed where the harnes has been taped up and told them that the body shop spliced wires together in there.  They said until they get into it they can't say for sure but they believe that is the problem. It was rewired wrong. That with them saying they hope to get it back to me monday or tuesday just cutting it to close for me. Plus other things going on here this just isn't really good time to go.

No real plans for today other than go and renting the car for like another 5 days today. $$ Glad insurance Company say the will reinburst me for it but not much I could do anyway the biggest hold up was the appraiser getting him to come back and look at it again. kept putting us off tomorrow then monday ( weekend in there) then tuesday. Finally got him in there after they had the truck for 5 days. Well will see what happens now.

Well will talk to you all later.

Good Morning,

Had another day off yesterday, not working on a train layout.  Spent most of the morning getting tax software, and information all rounded up at one place. Didn't start the process yet just preparation.  Had a real nice dinner last night with some friends down by the Queen Mary.  Excellant 3 course meal (Prime Rib) for $21.  Great deal!

After doing the preliminary inspection and test of the bikes, they are safely back in the shed.  Great advice from lion88roar!  All those things he described are definetly needed.  Did find one other issue though, apparently from having them hanging up, they must have stretched.  I can't remember having to lean the bicycle over so much to get my leg over it!  Something seems wrong.  A new seat is also on the list, lingering affects were discomforting.

DDG, The picture of Carlsbad is awesome! Is that out of your kitchen window?  Now that Yukon Trail bike is just what I need!  Didn't seem that pricey either, considering. Reminds me of the Mopeds.

Spank, Thanks for your comment, you are so right!  And with what Tyler has been through I know it hasn't been easy for you and your family either.

Well need to go and get ready to go back to work on the layout.  The end is near (I Think)  its been a long job and a LOT of work.

Take care ALL and stay healthy!

Good rainy and gloomy morning here guys,

Got some kind of crud hanging on to me, no wonder with this up and down weather. Cat is staring me down to get some food again.  Guess I had better give in and get him something to eat. Sounds like I will have the grand-daughter tomorrow and the grand-son on Friday.

RT, what did John do to your 736 for you??  Huh?

And just when you think this software can’t get any worse, they make changes and prove you wrong. Bang Head

RT, what did John do to your 736 for you??  Huh?

Better to say what didn't he do lol The gear on the main drive axle needed replacing so he had to pull it and put the new one on. get the wheels back in sinc seeing it was apparent someone else had tried to fix it that had no idea what they where doing. there where a couple of other things also but that was the main things.
