Visit with Lucas was nice. They had the place decorated nicely. We drove around the town and saw the library. Had lunch at a nice family restaurant. Had enough food to make two meals. Played some board games and came home. It was a good day. I hope everyone has a good day.

Aloha. Sleeted all day yesterday - and today I paid the price. 2 plus hours of chipping away 3 inches of frozen sleet from the driveway and a foot from the base from the plows. Broke the snow-thrower, though thanks to the SiL, we frankenstein'd a fix to it just in time for tomorrow's snow showers. My kids (and heck, me too) loved the old-style Tonka trucks - they were indestructible.

Evening FellasChristmas has come and gone, the kids are still talking about it. Matthew received the Lionel LionChief James set and he loves it, I received a few things for the under-the-tree-garden that I still have not built... maybe next year? Christina received a bunch of Barbie stuff that she has not stopped playing with. Matthew also got 5? John Deere tractors and 3 Tonka trucks. He took his Triceratop for a ride in the John Deere tractor and trailer (1:16 size - think they call them Big Farm or something like that) as soon as he unwrapped them. He absolutely loves his John Deere tractors (trains are a close second though).Not much else happening as I'm off this week...

Saturday was not one of our better days with the kiddos at the museum. Suffice to say that I needed Sunday and Monday to recover.
Jim, Good thing those are flamingos and not elephants, I'd have to check my Pepsi to see if there was anything in it other than Pepsi. Oh yeah, how'd the Sugar Cookies turn out ? I've baked more cookies this year than I can remember compared to previous years.
Roy, Glad things went well for you and your family with the storms. Thoughts and prayers for your neighboring communities that didn't fair as well. Will be sending a monetary donation to the Salvation Army to help out.
Back to work, breaking down the Christmas trains and packing them away til next year.

As the weatherman promised, the snow was waiting for us to remove this morning. First pass was about 6". Times like today, I wish we had a shorter driveway. Took a couple of hours, but at least it was fluffy.
Now we have a combination of snow & sleet. Oh well, it is winter.
Temp is 41 but going down through the day. We got it all yesterday. Sleet, snow, freezing rain, and then rain. Roads were bad yesterday eve but fine this morning.

had a great Christmas.
Then the farm budget took a hit on Saturday. Found a feeder we bought 5 weeks ago dead as a door nail. $700 down the drain. No noticeable symptoms but I suspect he had pneumonia and we didn't catch it. Life goes on....
Went to the office for an hour or so this morning and ended up staying most of the day. ......
Looks like winter may finally arrive. Windy and cold with rain now. Possibly freezing rain before AM. Then near normal temps for the 10 day forecast.

Wife and I stayed up until 2 AM this morning finishing a jigsaw puzzle. Most of the time it is a relaxing way to spend the evening. We had a few tough sections but got it done. Took daughter's washing machine down to Bloomington today. Son and son-in-law did a good job of tying it down in the back of the pickup truck bed. Got it unloaded and into the place where it will be (long story) and came home. Napped for almost 2 hours when we got home. Going to see Lucas tomorrow. Another long day. Staying home Wednesday. I hope everyone has a good day.
I replace smoke element in one of the 2055 engines man was that thing cooked in there. I've never seen one so caked up and hard as a rock in the chamber there like that one was right to the top had to chip it out little at a time no wonder it was fried. I replaced it with Pill type like was in it. I like to keep them the way they where I still can use liquid if I want. Then Ebay sent me a email they where refunding me all my money on a whistle tender I bought that was suppose to be in good condition but should of been listed as junk/parts/restore well I pulled it out of the box thru the shell away it was toast no good flat out. moved wires around so they wouldn't short it would spin like crazy did get it to sound a couple of times but think is needs some help but how do you repair if it will spin but don't make the whistle sound. and it also will spin with out hitting the whistle button so there some work there needed guess the relay.
Need to do the Smoke unit in a 675 tomorrow and the front light in it see whats going on there. Replaced the slide shoes on a 1655 as the old ones had a split right down the middle where it hit the track lol. attached the front truck on my 2023 dummy unit so now can lift it with out worrying about the truck falling off in my hand. lol.Suppose to get wire wheel tomorrow while at Home depot and hopefully some wire and not have to buy 500' as that was all they showed on the website. put together another telltale I got from Jeff then realize this broken piece I have had for like 6 years wasn't broken it was just the orange part of it and it just needs the tassels and the nail I always thought it was a broken piece as I got it that way with the brakeman car. Never really looked closely at it. oh well. already making up another list for Jeff as somewhere I lost the front truck for the 1655 or it didn't have it and I forgot to order it. And some other things I need. Well hope all had a good day
Rain and sleet is over for now, water flowing every place as well as limbs all over. Sump-pump running on Dec. 28??????????????WOW... Now the cold is coming. Still way better than others have had the last few days.
Got my parts order from Jeff so I did some stuff downstairs.
Been heating with wood all day. Cat won't stay out.

Son took us out last night for a steak, lobster and shrimp combo. It was awsome.
Got a visit last night from some old friends and their two teenage daughters. Oldest one is in college and same age as our grandson. The parents had to rent their house in my area and move back to an older rental they own in another area to make ends meet for the girl's college. Hope she appreciates their sacrafice.
New Gold Line Light Rail is in full testing mode now day and night. Opening in about two months.
Put in a call today for an estimate on new rought iron gates for my driveway. Winds have wrecked my old wooden ones. I'd like to get the kind with just vertical bars that the wind can blow right through.
Son is back to work and staying out of town most of this week so wife and I are alone. It's harder for me to cope with her dementia when it's just us. Hope for some kind of help next year. Just have to decide what we can afford and do it.
Did not run any trains at all this year for Christmas. Haven't even run on the garage layout for weeks now. The trains/batteries etc. need excercise I'm sure not to mention track cleaning. Lot to be done in there. I did not attend the TCA Christmas party this year for the first time ever since I have been a member. Just plain forgot about it.

wrmcclellan Afternoon all, Lots of homes damaged here last night in three main areas (Garland, Rowlett, and Red Oak - where my cousin lives). Garland is the community that borders to the east of where we live in Richardson. Rain and T'storms started last night prior to the tornados and have been going on all day. The cold front is stuck on top of us but should finally move on tonight. Many those who lost their lives in this storm were on I-30 and apparently their cars were picked up and thrown from the freeway. Most communities had 30 minutes of warning due to our extensive storm siren systems installed or upgraded in recent years and "shelter in place" warnings from media and smart phone warnings (This is one thing really valuable about the new mobile phone systems and knowledge of your location). Thus very few lives (if any) lost in destroyed homes. Amazing to see the damage - particularly vehicles with all their windows destroyed and body panels crushed in by flying debris and mud. for those here affected by the storm. edit - Rowlett mayor press conf just reported 100 homes completely destroyed, 83 severely damaged, 600+ total with some level of damage, no fatalities in Rowlett.

It's been a very busy Christmas weekend with Family here on Christmas, Saturday & Sunday + a granddaughter and husband spending this week here. This is the first time I've had to check the forum. Did run trains a few times .

Good news that none of the forum members were directly effected by all of the recent storms in the south. You sure don't expect tornado damage in December.
Looks like snow will finally catch up to us in the north country. The weatherman is predicting about 8" tomorrow. Snow blowers are ready, so there is not much more prep to be done.

Well the weather here sucks! Good old Kentucky ice storm here on the North Bluff in North Central IL. this morning. Plenty of tree limbs to clean up later. So we will be staying home till it clears out. Need to get to Krogers but oh well.
I should be getting my parts from Jeff today as well if the mail carrier can get here.
Morning all 68 going up to 74 foggy, with showers turning in thunder storms this afternoon fun fun fun. No plans for today although my parts from Jeff will be here so that will give me something to do this afternoon. Just sitting here trying to wake up need to take my morning pills sold a item last night on the bay a HO item so after all said and done there's $10 lol no not for trains for other projects. Got a few more items in the same category if sell would be nice a couple HO and then like 4 postwar Boxes.

I'll keep that in mind if I get some tough spots I can't get to but this way it gives me something else to do.
I will have two 2671W up and running once I do that and parts come in. After I send the 736 to get the gear replaced that will give me two of them up and running, Need to put a smoke element in a 675 to give me two of them completely done and running need to put rear truck and tender latch on one 2055 and smoke element in another and I'll have all 3 up and running. So have my little jobs yet to go but thats about it. Still concidering repainting a shell for 2671 that appearence wise is tough but has all it's steps and all in place so would make a great improvement to it. There is a little messed up area on the top next to the coal on the right side not sure if I can lightly smooth that out or not but probably will try if I do decided to repaint. If nothing else would be a great canidate to practice on as have a replacement shell coming in anyway.

Article in paper today about Walt Disney's office which has been restored to like original and will be open to certain tours to certain people only. Story tells a little about Walt's life. He liked simple food and kept Hormel chile, spam and stuff like that on hand. He drove his own car to work. He smoked some kind of cigarettes called sweet caparal. They say it was like smoking rope. Unfortunately smoking killed him at 65.
Nothing on the calendar until the week after new years day.
