sir james I

No one here, guess some raided the eggnog bottle last night.

The usual cloudy but 48 degrees.

S.J.

Never fear S.J., at least I'm here.

Went out to eat last night at Chili's.  Wife and I had a two for $20 deal which included appetizer.  I had ribs and she had sirloin steak which was lousy as it turns out.  At least half of it was good.  Complained and got a free piece of cheescake for compensation.  Would have cooked another steak but it was too late for that.

Our live in son is off on another day with his girlfriend.  We hardly ever see him anymore on weekends.  Funny thing is that he dropped out of the dating game for a long time but he  must be seeing the light recently realizing that me and his mother or not immortal.  I guess he finally saw the hand writing on the wall and doesn't want to be left alone someday. Anyway we are happy for him and hope this relationship is a good one.

later,

Ray

Afternoon all!

Finished decorating last night with a simple string of lights on the front and two small trees with lights to each side of the front door/porch. Somehow strained my left knee getting stuff out of the attic so that limited the decorating. Doesn't hurt as long as I sit in front of the TV watching football.

Watching the Battle of Ohio game. Johnny Football taking it in the shorts. Browns offensive line puts new meaning to "porous".

Bought some wall mount speakers at Best Buy. Looked at some Bose but the ratings for their small speakers are consistent - no bass. I thought Bose made these really great all range small speakers. Bose apparently reinforces the lack of bass by not publishing any frequency response specs (SE151's). So bought some Yamahas. They don't have any bass either but at least they published the low end at 60 Hz and cost 1/3rd the price. Isn't it all about that bass?

Had some sprinkles here today. Weather hyped all week for a couple of inches of rain today and nothin.

Fife - they say dogs are a major health issue for retirees.

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

Fife.....A re-enactment with video would be appreciated by all of us on the forum.  Glad you are okay.  I fell out of the boat once, flat on my back on the concrete drive.  You can't make this stuff up!

Roy....I'm with you, BOSE are too expensive and the performance is not directly proportional to the price.  I have some small JBL speakers for the TV and they are more than satisfactory, especially when watching Applo 13.  The Saturn 5 does rattle the room.

Last week I worked a considerable amount of OT such that those SS checks could be increased.  I head out again tomorrow.

Have a great week!

Busy day.  Early Church, In-laws, got 4 Runner on the road again [nephew finished our project for me], then Raleigh Ringers Holiday performance downtown Raleigh and ending with gathering at K&W for a group meal.

Fifey, glad the concrete caught the fall and not a big cactus.  Glad you are OK.  Got to make it to retirement.

TV and rest.

Mostly cloudy and about 60 today.  Vegging today, recovering from a looong work week and the Polar Express programs yesterday at the museum.

As seems to happen most years between Thanksgiving and Christmas at work, one or more programs go into crisis mode with un-missable deadlines, requiring extra hours.  Got through the most recent crisis, but at a cost of missing my part for the morning P.E. presentation.

I did make it to the afternoon P.E. presentation.  We had about 100 people at each program.  Probably the best attendance we've had.  I did not get pictures of the layout yet, but I'll post them when I do.  We will leave the layout up at the museum and run it again next Saturday.

This year's addition to the layout was a circle of 027 track 1/2 under the mountain with for the P.E. elf handcar to run on.  I would park the handcar under the mountain and randomly run it around the circle.  Sometimes only once.  Great reaction from the kids - lots of "what was that?" and "did you see that?" sort of reactions.

Fife - great story about Fifipup.

Got word from the local hobby shop that my Zombie pack came in, and the Coke Christmas boxcar have arrived.  No P.E. trolley yet, though.

About all for now.

Good evening all,

Another good day.  Got lights working on standard gauge layout.  Went on local home tour this afternoon as well.  Got to watch English Premiere League match on Telemundo and NCAA Women's soccer championship as well.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Evening,

Thought I better chime in here, ROY and BUCKEYE, glad to hear that neither of you are seriously injured.  As an experienced survivor of a "fall" and a "twist", I may be able to provide advice and assistance.  First be wary if anyone suggests or wants to do surgery!  Recovery CAN take awhile!  AND, it IS possible that it could lead to further procedures!  So be careful, if that is offered as an alternative.  Secondly, insist on getting a Bone Stimulator.  Even though it is a fancy electronic device that emits waves or high frequency waves which stimulate the molecular growth within your bones.  It WILL NOT affect either DCS, TMCC, or Legacy frequency ranges.  So you will be OK.  Another suggestion, IF you end up with a cast, try to think of a festive design.  (I used a candy cane style for my leg.)  The Dr and office staff will really get a laugh out of it, and realize you are a person, not just another patient.  This will be of benefit for appointment preferences, and minimized waiting room times.  If your conditions become more serious please let me know and I can provide more advice and suggestions.

Kay got the tree up in the living room, and is currently working on one in the family room.  So I will have my own tree.  She asked me how many trains are we going to have, I told here it is up to her and Chris, as he will be putting them up.  I've been working in the train room.  Got my shelf lights wired with switches adjacent to the layout power switch.  One switch for each wall, so they can be operated independantly.   Also been cleaning and servicing all the cars as working on the shelves.

And then....... I put a claim in with the VA for compensation due to Agent Orange and me having Diabetes.  The VA also found that I had a hearing loss which they attribute to me working on the flight line.  So yesterday I get a letter that states I need to go and see an specific audiologist.  (According to the VA the hearing loss is the same frequency range as that of middle aged women.  No joke!  Kay gives me a bad time every time I ask her to repeat something.)  Anyway the darned audiologist's office is in Beverly Hills, about 40 miles.  AND the appointment is for 9am!  Couldn't be worse for traffic.  Then the same day have a 3pm appointment for another Dr., that one for the Diabetes I think.  Would you believe that Dr's office is less than 2 miles from the house.  So Thursday will be a busy day.

Think I should go help Kay, and unwrap some more decorations for her.  So talk to you all later, and Stay Healthy!!  And a BIGGG THANK YOU TO BUCKEYE FOR ALL HIS HARD WORK!!!!  (Will be looking forward to the increase.  Oh yeah, Buckeye don't forget to send Roy his check too.)

Aloha. Glad Fife is still with us. A nice quiet weekend working at the church and catching up on episodes of the Batman TV series. Supposed to be 50 and shower-y, but I know that won't last. I'll take it instead of snow. Kev, those tractors sound good!

Morning.  Chilly but warming like yesterday.  County Commissioner and then Mayors' Assoc. Christmas Party.  Wifey and I will probably not stay long.  Probably not hunting this week.  Busy week.

Hope all stay safe and have a great week.

PS: from one of the other train forums.  Jeffrey or Running Bear.  Copied this.

As you know Jeff has been in nursing care sense November. Just before thanksgiving Jeff had a stroke it affected his right side. Lost of speech, can only move his left arm. The doctor say there may be no improvement. We were also told his body is trying to shutdown. He knows where he is at, he knows his family.

Prayers.

Good morning all,

Really sad to hear of Jeffrey's passing.  He suffered so much yet tried  to contribute to the forums as much as possible.  I will say a prayer that he has finally found peace and comfort.  R.I.P. Jeff

Don, I would rather take a beating than driving to Beverly Hills during the rush hour.  Good luck!

Roy, hope your knee does not require surgery.  I had some miniscus repaired on my left one and it is doing OK.

Buckeye, falling out of the back of a boat on your back on concrete?  Wow!  You're lucky you lived to tell about it.

My dentist office is making a career out of making a new crown for me.  They have already had my partial, leaving me without most of my upper teeth for two days and now they want it again for two more days starting tomorrow morning for the lab.  That's not the end of it either.  They will need it again for a third time next week to put the new porcelain on the crown.  That's Christmas week!  Come on now!  I think I will try to put it off until after Christmas at least.  Finally, I still have an appointment with the dental hygentist this Wednesday to clean what's left of my teeth without partials.  Think I will ask for a discount.

My grandson had a big dissapointment this week on not getting into Cal Tech.  His grades were good enough but they considered other things as well and there is a lot of competition.  I understand they picked three girls and one of them never even heard of NASA.  My grandson has been recognized twice and invited to Cape Canaveral and also the Houston Space Center for his achivements in Space related projects  Go figure.   I smell a rat somewhere.  Oh well, he still has a chance at several other colleges.

He also plays viola in the high school orchestra.  We are going to their Christmas concert tonight.

later,

Ray

Good evening all,

Sad to hear about Jeff.  His comments were always interesting.  To the extent that he could, he lived life to the fullest, and that is the best that could be said for anyone.   I will blow the whistle once in his memory the next the trains ran at my house.

A good day at work, but a long one.  Worked all day finishing up a batch of labs that needed to be done.  Four weeks worth from one facility.  Pain in the posterior, but glad that is over with.  Went for my usual "walkabout" at noon for the first time since my procedure.  Will take some time to get back up to speed.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Brother Jeffery------- You're in a better place. We got it from here. Rich Mastriano, Hightstown Eng. Co. #1 Psalm 23 for Firefighters The LORD is my firefighter, he spares no effort to rescue me. He runs to me when I am trapped by flames, he finds me when I have lost all hope, he carries me in his arms to safety. He finds a path through smoke and fire, unselfishly concerned for my salvation only. When all exits are blocked and gone, he remains at my side unto death. I will fear no evil for you are with me. Your presence and courage, they comfort me. You give me a chance to live again, to sit at table with family, friends, and even my enemies. You provide me a fresh start on life, my joy knows no limits. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. --by George O. Wood. Morning.  Starting off cold and foggy.  Turning warmer with showers.

Not much during the day today.  Senator's Christmas party.  He's the one that has the 2 year old son that loves trains and calls me "Frank Trains".

Jeffrey is a tough one.  You wish he could have kept living.  Then he was not happy at rehab.  Don't think he would have liked assisted living.  Told me so.  Don't think he could have gone home by himself.  Lord knew best.

Have a good one.

Mornin' Fellas

Busy getting stuff done for Christmas, almost have the house ready.

Fife - that was one awesome visual. Glad you are OK.

Chief - Susan's company's Christmas party was Saturday at the National Air & Space Museum in DC. I haven't seen a Pershing since 1991, it was rather awesome to see one again. Brought back a lot of memories and inspired a number of stories from my service days. A number of other spouses are ex-military so we all had a grand time. Susan had never seen one in person and she too was impressed.

Sad news about Jeffery. We lost a good one there. As has been mentioned he is now in a better place.

Good afternoon from the PA RR Museum.

Sorry to hear about Jeffrey, haven't been very active on the forums of late and didn't realize he hadn't been posting.  Once sent him a bunch of HO stuff I no longer needed and we emailed back and forth a bit after that a bit.  Found out he had a sister living in the same PA town as my oldest daughter.  He will be missed.

Raining hard here at the moment. Hope it slows a little for the drive home.

Toothless in California!---Again!

Took my partial in to dentist for second time today to send out to lab that is  building me a new crown.  Supposed to get it back by Thursday.  This is killing the holidays for me.  Was suppose to go to a meeting today but probably won't.  V8 Dennis, I feel the same as you about going out in public this way.  They want the partial again next week for final work but I am not going along with that plan on Christmas week.  I'll do it after.

Looks like rain but none right now  Light showers predicted for next two days

Good evening all,

Technically should have been a good day.  Lab imports went smoothly.  Walk went well though wet and blustery.  Got a Christmas card unexpectedly from someone I know, which was a nice surprise.  Still. an unsettling day.   Stock market investments had another bad day after hearing my broker say the bottom was near.   Still ahead for the year, but not for long if these kinds of day keep piling.  Stitches still not healed completely.....yet and wondering when d--- things will ever get back to "normal"...    Was going to watch Christmas movie with wife when we got home.  Instead got drug out to Wally World in the dark and rain.   Mood matches the weather.  Stupid meetings at work the next 2 days.  Ugh!   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

You didn't give a lot of explanation.  I figured something like that.  Its kind of strange when you start telling the truth of what went on back in those days.  Unclassified now.  1968-69.  I was at a missile base in the Everglades south of Miami.  Nike Hercules was a big two stage anti-aircraft missile.  They had  nuclear warheads as well as conventional.  Now the "word" was, nuclear could destroy a large flight of planes.  The guidance system had a surface to air plug you installed when you readied the missile for launch.  Well, my "barn" had two nuclear warheads X four sections [barns] =ed 8 nukes.  We also had a plug that made the missiles surface to surface.  The range of a Herc was Cuba.  Do the math.  Whistling

Rainy day here.  Now foggy night.

Six months blood draw tomorrow.  All you seniors know what I mean.

Hey Mike my day wasn't really better for me. Was having a crappy day with my arm shakes so went down to train room to relax and at some point the cat got pass the wife ( only does it to her never to me) and got on train table and went into the tunnel and knocked the cars over under there so had to craw on the table and reach under there with a piece of gargraves straight track to fish the 3 cars out ( 2 passenger cars and a scale boxcar.)

Wife going berserk because at times my shakes get real bad. Have appointment with Dr. at V.A. on 29th. Had appointment yesterday for my CPAC and they gave me a new machine as my old one was getting hard to turn off and on.

Well hope all are having a good night talk to you all later

Hang in there Mike, I saw this one coming and drew back about 6 weeks ago. It was getting to close to 18K and I knew it would have to adjust. Hang tight and keep breathing and it will come back. I hope your broker is right about the bottom being near. I am at the stage where I don't have forever for adjustments to come before I need to start useing it.

RT, My bad arm the one that got crushed in 96 has been driving me nuts last few weeks. Don't know for sure if it is the weather or another comeback. I told them at operation # 3 to install a zipper. Surprise

Night all!

That is why you have a big hole under table to crawl under and fix it, clean it and/or rerail cars.

KEV, no ops authorized.  Better be weather.  Maybe getting better weather.
