The logo is there, for me. I see it. (If it is lost I can replace it, I have the original).
Leg doing pretty good, have soreness at the lower calf. Think maybe it is because the muscle hasn't been used in sooo long, and it is just typicall. Mentioned it to the Dr and he wasn't concerned, just wanted to know if I need pain meds. Told him no, it isn't that bad. So next scheduled appt is 8/4. In the meantime, he said put weight on it, 100% and try to get away from the walker. So that's my goal.
Yesterday was at the VA for tests. They are checking me out for Agent Orange affects. Did blood work and chest X-Ray. Have appointment for tomorrow to find out results. --- Interesting. Then next week have to go for Drivers License renewal, which should be interesting, since currently I cant drive there.
Suppose to do a presentation on Thursday, up in SPRAY's neighborhood. Have to see how I'm going to get there. Hopefully my buddy Bob will do the honors of his taxi service. Believe me that is not the most prefferred method, but the best alternative currently.
Kay is doing well, but MUST keep her activities very limited. And it is too far for her to drive. So will see what happens.

It has been nothing but hot & humid of late. Waiting for some cooler weather. If I wanted S. Florida weather I would have moved to S. Fla.
Sunday was really good at the museum, much more crowded than expected. Guess everybody was looking for someplace cool to hide.
Yesterday and today were spent with the dentist for awhile, got some expensive repair work coming up so I guess this year's train budget is toast.
Good to hear that our "walking wounded" are getting better, although continue.

P.S. Roy, Sunday I chatted with a family from the Ft Worth area who were really interested in building a layout for their two boys. Unfortunately I suffered a brain fart and couldn't remember the club inthe D/FW area. Finally suggested Railserve.net for some info.

Afternoon FellasBeen mega busy trying to get the rental property in Pittsburgh ready to rent. I had to evict the renters due to their lack of ability to pay full rent for nearly a year again. Well I've been up there every weekend for the past 3 weeks working on it... $5,000.00 later and it is nearing completion. This weekend TheQ, kiddos, and I are going up to put the finishing touches on it (hopefully).Fife - I probably wouldn't have been around. Making plans for Christina's 3rd Birthday. We are going to Dutch Wonderland and staying in The Fulton Steamboat Inn. Maybe Saturday we'll take a ride on The Strassburg RR, and if John is working, maybe stop in and say HI at The PRR Museum.

Wife had good report from neurologist today. He said she is doing pretty good after he talked with her for a while and gave some test. He also said the MRI and EEG test did not turn up anything negative. Same with blood test. He prescribed some meds for her to try and slow down the memory loss which he says is in the early stages at this point. Told us of more invasive neurology test that are available but did not recommend at this time. Does not want to see her again for three months. She still can take care of her personal hygiene, dressing and household chores. I just help with paying the bills and managing our affairs. We are happy at least for now about how it is going. I think some of my fears might have been premature but I am erring on the side of caution. We still go out with friends and she does very well except for an occasional slip about remembering the correct date are name of something etc.
Still hot here. Walking every morning still but early. Jumping in pool around 5:00PM most days Swamp cooler and A/C both working now. Had swamp cooler alone most of the day. Hope it helps on the bill.
Some swimmer out here in the ocean off Manhattan Beach pier got bit by a juvenile great white shark the other day. Seems the shark was already hooked by some fisherman on the pier and the swimmer was unlucky enough to get tangled up with it. I hear there are bad feelings between fisherman on the pier and swimmer/surfers near it. Anyway, sounds like a dumb deal to me. Fortunately the swimmer will recover.
Don, might try to see you at La Fetra if I can get someone to stay with Helen for a while. We will see. I went to a care giver meeting over there last night but it was cancelled. I waited 30 minutes and no one showed up. Don't know what happened yet but maybe because of the 4th of July weekend preceeding the meeting might have worn people out.

Not too much planned for the day, see what kind of mess the neighbor is going to make in the backyard. After a very long time they have decided to redo the yard. So today he has a crew coming in to clean dead needles out of his Cypress trees. He had them trim them back a couple of years ago, they were begining to push over a block wall. When they trimmed all of the branches were cut off our side. So now it is just 25 foot tall brown posts sticking up with brown twigs and branches, with brown piles of needles caught between them. Looks horrid. But, we do see the backside of the green branches on his side. Whenever we have ANY breeze we get all these needles all over our deck, and boy are they sharp. So anything will be an improvement.

BTW, Bob will be with me, hired him as my driver. Really great to hear the report on your wife! That sounds really good! Glad things are working out well. I'm sure you are really relieved, certainly she is happy about it as well.

Dennis, Thanks for the compliment. But, as you know when things arn't going your way, time passes much easier when your looking at the bright side. And how does that saying go? "When life gives you lemons, make cherry pie out of it. (Or should that be lemonade?) Anyway, it could have been a lot worse, could have lost the leg. As of now, I still think I have a couple of months to go, for therapy yet.

Aloha. Cooler today but sunny. A real beauty of a day. Taste of Chicago starts today so there are hordes of tourists all over the Loop. Miss riding the trams. Catching up with work in my jet-lag fog. Had a bad reaction to some food where we ate out yesterday at a Chinese buffet. Ate a lot of strange seafood at least for me. This morning I am in fluid drive. Took some meds but postponed walk for today. My system is too sensitive to eat just anything.
Don, I wrote down the address for your presentation but getting away tomorrow does not look good right now. Will come if I can.
A/C on early today. Funny thing is that the paper says it is suppose to be cooler than yesterday. Can't believe everything you read.
Got a line on a place in New Jersey that makes all kinds of gears. May try them for my MTH engine stripped gear if price is affordable.

Not a Yankee? Oh, but I am, what the Virginians during the "Late Unpleasantness" of 1861-1865 used to call a "Galvanized Yankee", blue on the inside, grey on the outside. Moved to Virginia in 1987 from New Jersey, got fed up with it and marched south.
Don't miss much about New Jersey except the food, but on the otherhand they don't have barbecue!

RT, Very good and sound advice, I couldn't agree with you more! I hope I don't bore you all with my experience and reasoning, but maybe someone who reads this will gain some benefit.
I decided to go and register with the VA a little over a year ago, only because I live so close to a regional medical center, and a number of acquaintances had recommended it. And I knew it would not cost anything and could be a significant alternative for medical expenses. As it has turned out it has been a very positive experience. There has been some wait times involved but not what I would consider unreasonable. As it has turned out I have received minimal care from them, but have learned a lot. I do have a specific MD assigned to me, and have had a complete physical at a cost of only $15. From that I have had a hearing test, vision and eye exam, some medication, (what I had been taken prior to the VA), and even some support socks. From day 1, I was encouraged by everyone I had talked with to make sure and visit the "Agent Orange" clinic to sign up for an evaluation. This was basd solely on the fact that I was in South East Asia during the Viet Nam era. It was immaterial how much time I was in Viet Nam for, but anywhere in SEA was all that was necessary. Fortunately, I have not been aware of any affects of Agent Orange that I have experienced or been exposed to. After an initial interview it was established that I had indeed been exposed, but I was still unaware of any affects.
I had previously been aware of people being affected, but thought that it was rather severe, either psycological problems or severe medical issues. And, was quite happy I didn't have any of those issues.
But, I have found out the VA looks at things quite a bit differently. They have identified 14 distinct issues that they feel may be a result of serving in South East Asia. And have therefore determined that if you have any of these concerns, then they attribute the cause to "Agent Orange". No validation of proof necessary. Just the mere fact that you may have been affected by one of these 14 issues, it IS due to Agent Orange. And as a result awards compensation benefits to the veteran. This may sound a little bazaar, but everyone at the VA I talked to said "It is your right, you are entitled, and if you know other Vets from that era, please inform them."
The topics they have identified include most cancers, diabetes, hearing issues, tingling in the feet or legs, E..Dysfunction, Parkinsons, skin cancers, and quite a bit more. (I don't want to try and define all of them here, for accurate information please go to the VA web site.)
Anyway, I have been diagnosed with diabetes and told I do qualify for compensation and its just a matter of submitting a claim. So I decided to proceed with the process.
So essentially that's the long and short of it, if anyone has any questions or wants more information, please send me an email and I try and help as much as I can. I dont want to clutter up this forum with all that stuff. But just want to get some word out that may benefit others.
Also I am NOT recommending anyone submit or create false information for monetary gain, but just want to help heighten awareness.
So, just remember TAKE CARE AND STAY HEALTHY !

Don, Any Vet who saw service in SEA or even handled the stuff stateside should most definitely get in and get checked. I have lost several friends and business acquaintances to cancer that they attributed to Agent Orange. From being a grunt out in the field to sailors who unloaded the stuff from the cargo ships. It ain't anything to take lightly.

Cloudy and rainy good morning. Long day yesterday. Left home at 7 AM. Got home at 8 PM. Was HOT and HUMID. Went through 6 bottles of water. Later, at restaurant for the one meal at 4:30 PM, 4 glasses of ice tea. One Coke Zero on the way home. Was dry and real dusty so clothes was showing the seat rings around my body. Food plots planted are getting "rained" in today. Did lots of walking while Friend Fred rode his 4 wheeler pulling disk.

Agent Orange is horrible. My worry is DDT when I was in the Army. We were given "OD" can after "OD" can of it to spray in our area's for mosquitos, biting flies and horse flies. We had it on us and breathed it a lot. Seems the half life is something unbelievable. Also the mosquito repellant in the clear bottles [you Viet Nam vets will remember it]. [I sill have a bottle saved] Rub it on your skin. Would rust your rifle in a heart beat.
Mayor's meeting this AM. Dr.'s appointments this afternoon. Hematologist/Enologist [blood count too high] first and then Dermatologist [another skin cancer has popped up]. Bad to get old. Not a fan of VA medicine. Everyone here says it is not good. Lots of cases where they let Vets die due to poor treatment. Hope the Government [which they are a part of] cracks down on them.

That reaction I had to the Chinese buffet on Tuesday got worse yesterday. I was burping what tasted like motor oil all day yesterday. Had dinner last night then barfed it all up in the middle of the night. Had the dry heaves this morning. All I had to eat today were two soft boiled eggs with cream of rice and a piece of toast. Had a piece of watermellon this afternoon. I think it was food poisoning. Been laying low all day.
John, Major congas to your son, in this day & age it takes a special individual to wear the uniform.
Ray, Was it bad food or could it be a reaction to MSG which is quite heavily used in a lot Chinese restaurants.
All packed up for tomorrow, plus taking in the "G" gauge Circus Train for display til after "Family Circus Day" at the museum.
Well gotta get back to the kitchen, pork tenderloin in the oven for supper.

We got the big rains. Raleigh got some trees down and streets flooded. Hope crops at the farm are OK as they got big rains too. Prettiest tobacco we have ever had. About 150 acres in big fields.
Dr. did more cutting and freezing. Hope this gets all of them. Other Dr. said blood too thick and to donate blood every 6 weeks to thin. ??? The Dermatologist said no. You bleed too good. ????
