According to this MARC bulletin the B&P tunnel is closed. If this is a continuation of yesterday's closing or a separate item is unknown to us.

Localized severe weather - again.  Moms Nature is not liking the Mid-Atlantic area for the Labor Day Weekend.

This year - I seem to feel we have had MORE localized and MORE severe weather and other atmospheric events than I remember from past years.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

MARC Penn line taking delays today due to heat orders. Unknown how much is track related and how much CAT related due to CAT sagging due to high heat.

Major delays on Keystone route due to tree doing damage to CAT and transmission lines Thursday afternoon.  Another case of tree removal stopped by nimbys ?

https://twitter.com/AmtrakNECAlerts

SERVICE ADVISORY KEYSTONE LINE: Due to a down tree on the tracks the following adjustments have been made. Trains 601, 605, 607 are cancelled no alternate transportation; Trains 640, 642, 600 will operate PHL-NYP only no alternate transportation HAR-PHL.

While NIMBY's may be part of the problem - remember that saplings that weren't even a thought, growing on private property in the 1930's when electrification was installed have now become full grown trees in the ensuing 85 years - trees that have had their purchase on the land weakend with the near record rain faill that has happend in the mid-Atlantic states this year.  Full grown trees near the edge of the property line can easily fall into transmission and catenary lines.

Another CAT problem just south of PHL evidently all 4 tracks.  The ol PRR CAT system takes out all 4 tracks too easily.  Happened Thursday about 2000.  Worse still evidently wires down started a fire that required fire department to put out fire shutting down fall tracks for a while.

Service Alert update: Catenary power has been restored on 3 of the 4 tracks between Philadelphia (PHL) and Wilmington (WIL). Trains now have the signal to resume travel. We will update as more information becomes available.

Service Alert: Rail travel between Wilmington and Philadelphia is currently on hold due to fire department activity in the area. Train 175 is holding in Philadelphia (PHL) and Train 186 is holding in Wilmington (WIL). We will update as more information becomes available.

Evidently power restored about 0400.  However due to conflicting reports unable to confidently assign this to CAT or another type of power failure .

UPDATE: Power has been restored. Acela 2173 and Train 175 have arrived at WAS, Trains 2175, 187 and 177 are next to be on the move.

Due to emergency Amtrak track repairs, southbound service at Seabrook station is temporarily suspended.  All northbound trains will stop as scheduled.  Passengers traveling from points north to Seabrook should remain on their train to either New Carrollton or Washington to return back to Seabrook on a northbound train.  All tickets will be honored on northbound trains.  Passengers boarding at Seabrook headed south should use the New Carrollton station.  Updates will be provided later this afternoon regarding the status of the track repairs.

Although not a  Amtrak problem Amtrak took a hit in New Haven.  Problem fixed at about 1300,

Service Alert Update: There are still ongoing overhead power issues in New Haven (NHV). We now have 2 of the 4 tracks back in service. Trains traveling through the area may experience a delay. We will update as more information becomes available.

Here is MNRR's explanation. Note that one track is out of service for installation in the area for constsant tension CAT. Just one more reason for Amtrak to get off its duff and replace all the old PRR style on its tracks.

Keystone trips cancellled de to trees in the CAT.  Another example of  Amtrak not maintaining the ROW.  It is only necessary action to prevent these problems by triming any trees in ROW that will sooner or later fall onto CAT.  Trees all get old, rotten, and eventually die and some will fall onto CAT.

Problem worse as cancellations may exted into July 4th

Maintaining trees on property you own is one thing - eliminating trees as a potential problem on property you don't own is another.

Do not know property laws in each state of Amtrak's ROW.  However here any tree or vegetation cutting the plane of property can be removed by owner of property not tree owner.  We just have case of a person removing tree limbs of another property's tree threating his home.  Tree owner refused to balance his tree.   This tree then fell onto tree owners home and he has no recourse against trimmer because of the over weight parts of tree falling on his home.

BTW full disclosure have a neighbor's tree liimb threating my home.

What I am referring to is tree(s) say 100 feet tall - 20 feet (or so) from the property line falling across the property line and onto Amtrak facilities.  I am not talking about a overhanging branch.

Visited my son in Kansas in the middle of May.  They had a windy T'storm and at a property 'down the street' a fully mature 'live' old tree was blown over with the root structure ending up 7 - 8 feet in the air.  Fortunately, no dwelling structures were impacted, however the top of the tree was on the 3rd property over, not just the neighbors property.

More CAT power problems at Newark and north of Baltimore

Train 160 is currently operating about 30min late due to earlier overhead power issues at Newark (EWR); and speed restrictions and rail congestion east of New Rochelle (NRO).

Acela Train 2258 is currently operating about 20 minutes late due to a power issue north of Baltimore.
