I don't take this to be nonesense but rather a service that needs be addressed.
RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.
When you live on the Federal teat you are subject to this kind of nonsense from our elected idiots.

On our RIdwithmehenry trips I have noticed a growing use and precence of bicycles in the NY area. LIRR trains to and from Ronkoncoma and Greenport as well as the NJT trains this past Sat. carried a lot more bicycles than previously. The Greenport trains eastbound accomodated about 10 bikes as did the NYP to Ronkonkoma. Notes in NJT, MNRR and LIRR timetables list trains which will and willnot accomodate bikes. Bikes have become an important part of the social fabric of the area and thus Amtrak in serving the area is pressured to accomodate bikes, too. I am sure other cities are experienceing the same thing.
NY's congress men are pushing Amtrak to provide baggage cars for bicycles on the Empire corridor trains. Of course right now there are not enough operable bag cars now and the new ones will not fill all this requirement except for maybe the single level trains. Another problem is NYP's tracks # 6 - 9 cannot take very long trais and that might restrict coach capacity ? One can almost bet that if Amtrak does not agree there will be congressional action to require them system wide. Although bicycles now require a $10 fee you can bet that this would still be revenue negative ?
