Localy none now, but back in the early 90s the new local shortline leased a pair of ex Milw units from the Indiana Transportation Museum, FP7 96 and F7 83, both painted in the Cream and Crimsion Monon passenger colors, 96 with a true Mars light in the upper casing and 83 with a Gyralite. The shortline used these units for several years till they managed to aquire 3 ex BN GP10's Was great to see a pair of F units in daily freight serivce. Mike

The Baltimore & Ohio never owned a factory built EMD F9 and never had EMD upgrade and rebuild any of their F3's and F7's to F9 specifications like Union Pacific did..
That locomotive is a EMD F7 built in early 1951. It recieved a nose from a scrapped Canadian National FP9 later in life after a wreck, which I imagine is when some may of started calling it a F9.
VIA Rail still has one GMD FP9 (#6300) operating as a yard switcher at their Vancouver Maintenance centre.
Additionally, VIA was still running FP9s in Northern Quebec service at least as recently as 2002. Here is one at Senneterre, Quebec, in March of 2002. With the delivery of VIA's GE P42DCs (late 2001), it was soon possible to reassign F40PH locomotives to these trains.
Interestingly enough, VIA is now using leased ex-GO transit F59PH locomotives on that same route, which makes for interesting consists.

It looks like for the link that any diesel locomotive made before 1973 is exempt so I guess that the classic F units are safe from the EPA.

not for museum and dinner trains, any locomotive not being worked to death will not be effected by the EPA rules, yes owners will have to be very carefull not to exceed any replacement of power assemblies not exceeding 1/8 of total cylinders per year.

Plus, the two FP7's at Stone Mountain Park Railroad. These two FP's were moved to the State owned Park from the defunct New Georgia Railroad, which was also State owned. Steam generators have long been removed but the remaining makeup is original.
#3499 was NS #3499 from SR(CNO&TP) #6147. SMP has renumbered 6147 in ugly solid green.
#3498 was NS, SR(CNO&TP)#6143 and has be reunmbered 6143 painted in SR green/white.

Just an update the 3 FL-9's that the ADRX had were cut up this week in Syracuse.
only F unit from MNCR at ADRX is former MNCR 412 now 1508.

F's could run as fast as E's with proper gearing. Remember that the Super Chief/El Cap was pulled by F's for a long time and exceeded 100m ph on occasion. Between "Boston Switch" (north of Pawtucket) and Reaville or Route 128, rode behind New Haven FL-9's at 100 mph.

THe Peoria and Western now have a B unit running now with one of the FP9's the other FP9 is in the shop for what now the third or fourth plus time so right now the trains been running with the FP9 (1752) the F9B(1761) and a GP16 (1603) with FP9 1750 in the shop

I don't, it was an unfortunate typo of leaving off a few letters of a word that completely changed the meaning of my statement. Was corrected within a couple of minutes after posting and before your reply, but apparantly you noticed it before I got to it.
I don't like seeing anything scrapped or destroyed. I accept that it's a necessary thing much like the cycle of life for humans, but it's never fun to see something like a beautiful locomotive (Which I'd certainly considered any cab unit like a FL9 to be), a ship, a bridge, a beautiful house, and so on destroyed due to the march of time. So I'm always hoping there's a chance of a different fate. :)
Non of Adirindack Scenic FL-9's are running.
The CDOT FL-9's are for sale, but don't expect them to come cheap, fairly new(1996)Locomotive, fairly new prime mover and a even more recent HEP (2000)
Adirondack Scenic has a few each of F and FL9 on their roster. Not sure if they're all running. Some are painted in NYC-inspired gray w/lightning stripe. As mentioned previously, check out the Diesel Shop site.
