How many locomotives can you name that look somewhat like a Dash9?
off the top of my head-
Dash 8-40BW
AC4400
.......well that's all I can think of without looking them up.

You can add the ES44DC and ES44AC to that list too (although it's not hard to spot the differences on them, but the same basic look is still there...)

That's a real looker.
As someone else said, the Gevos, The C40-8Ws and the B40-8Ws
AC6000CWs
Spartan cab Dash 8s and certain super 7s have a similar look too.
My current favorite loco is the GP60M.

I can agree with every one you listed.

Isn't it, though?
It's the only 16-710G3 powered unit with a dynamic brake hatch over the engine in the traditional EMD style. Even if that hatch more resembles an air conditioner than a traditional DB hatch.

Early phase GP60s have a more classic looking blister. I believe some early units also have the round Blower housing, but I'm not sure on that.

makes you wonder how the SD60 would've looked with that db protrusion. probably cool
man i wish SP had SD60s. they'd have looked so cool!
They had 60Ms.
The lack of a brake blister is what makes me not like the SD50/60/70s as much. Hood's too long.

The second unit in the picture is an early GP60 with the Phase 1 DB hatch. The angular blower housing is what EMD has used since 11/1982 on everything but the SD70M (DC), SD80/90 and newest SD70M-2/ACe units. There were no GP60s with the round housing, but there were some GP50s with the round housing.

no they didnt
you are correct and I am full of lies.
I was thinking of the 70Ms they had.

I'll bet that was a sight to see. It's a shame neither the 844 or the 3985 ever get out where I live......

EMDF40CFAN,
Just hyperlink to the picture you want to show above instead of trying to show it as a 'picture', like this:

oh now THOSE were cool! more neat power i never got to see. i still have yet to see an SP. closest i came to seeing one was when i caught SSW 7281 in Altoona a mere day before UP killed it
I grew up in the Western Suburbs of Chicago, so I saw CNW, UP and SOO(Probably Milwaukee when I was super little). Until one day a yeear or so before the official CNW/UP Merger, I caught a Speedlettered SP SD40 on a Manifest heading to Proviso from Chicago. It was a sight to see. Now I live out west and they're disappearing. I didn't even like SP particularly till I moved out here.
I remember those F40Cs well.
Thank you for the info. How did you get the photo on your profile??? I would like to put a F40C on my profile.

Just find a picture you like in a 4x3 format (i.e. 640x480, 800x600 etc) and upload it as your avatar in your profile. When you click on "Update Profile" above, you will be taken to your profile and from there, scroll down until you see 'Avatar'. Click on the 'Yes' for Enable, and then use 'Browse..." to find the picture on your hard drive that you want to use. Click 'update' and your avatar will now be the picture you want - the F40C for example.
The picture that's in my message body is hosted offline, in my case, on my personal web site. I use the img tags to link it.
Thank you. You have been of great help.

The F40PH-2's operated by CalTrain. Been a fan of them since I was 10 years old.

FWIW... Everything CNW had after the GP50s (or maybe the secondhand GP40s that were properly nose-belled) wasn't a "real" CNW locomotive, since the SD50s were built to MoPac specs, and the SD60s were built to SOO specs...
I think overall, my favorite common locomotive would have to be the SD40-2. For somewhat less-common locomotives, I like GP60s -- the lines of the dynamic brakes just looked neat to me -- and the CF7 -- they were quite the engineering marvel, considering where they came from!!!
