I did 31W last time, and I'll follow it again on Monday. I think it even picks up the line again after Bowling Green. I'm not sure how far south I wanna go this time.
Last time I saw six trains, five northbounds(morning, early afternoon) and one southbound(mid afternoon). Maybe I can repeat that.
I would go photograph #152 this weekend but I have no way of getting there.
I am going to do several more trips within the next month. Two next week,as a matter of fact.
On Monday I'm going from Bardstown Junction/Shepherdsville all the way down to Bowling Green, maybe further,if there are any roads that follow the tracks.
On Wednesday I'm going back to LaGrange and will follow the tracks around that area, and in Louisville as well.
Next month I'm going back down to KRM to film and photograph L&N #152 when they run it. I also want to go to Lexington and the surrounding area up there, although I'm not too familiar with the trackage up that way.
NICE PICTURES!!!!!!
Really enjoyed looking at them!!
(surely you weren't that crowded in La Grange?!,
that town ain't big enough!!)
Keep on taking great pictures.
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
More pics,taken since I've been away. :)
Near Osborn Yard,in a heavy rain.

#8581 is a SD50.
Here are two photos of the depot in Erlanger. And the sign about the depot: NS #6131, a SD40-2. A Southern caboose that was parked at the depot.
From a week and a half ago:
CSXT CW40-8 #7659 sitting alongside Chamberlain Lane. B40-8 #5976 was one of 12 purchased by CSXT from Norfolk Southern on 10/23/06. It is former Conrail 5084, former NS 4814 A side view.
Later that day,in La Grange,KY,I met the train again. I pulled into downtown,on the tracks, only to look and see lights on the tracks and I knew I had to get outta the way. Coming right down through downtown. Close-up,the nose looks rough. Heading out of town at a slow 10 mph. Last car. Downtown La Grange, when there aren't any trains coming by.
Thanks for the info.
On a side note,we had a train derailment here in Bardstown last week. I didn't think it was worthy of its own thread,so I'll post the link.
A dump truck ran into the train which was hauling empty cars, derailed one of them.Noone was hurt fortunately.

Hello SimRacin40
Yes the E-6 is slated for exterior restoration and new paint this year, and no there is now prime mover or generator inside. When the L&N donated her she was being used as an auxillary power unit. I think locomutt is refering to the Glendale Crossing Festival on the third weekend of October.
Sorry I got the name wrong for Glendale's Festivities, but that would be it.
Have been there a couple of times, once with my National Guard Unit;
and CW has family that lives in the Glendale, Sonora area.
IIRC, that E-6 had nothing inside when it was donated to the KRM years ago.

I think it's very rusted out inside the E6. I think they want to restore the outside of it and just have it on display. I think a new paint job on it will still make it look nice.

I seperated my railroad photos and racing photos into two complete fotki accounts. You may now find my railroad photos here:

The ones I took from today will be up on there soon.
My videos from today that I filmed in Glendale,KY Video 1 Video 2 Video 3 All three trains came through within a span of 20 minutes, and the speed at that particular crossing is 60 mph. I was standing on a public road that goes along side the tracks.
Hello Slimracing.....
I like the photos. I talked with a guy from KRM a while back and he said they were going to restore the L&N diesel passenger locomotive, an E6. It would not be for operations, he said. It would just be fixing up the exterior. I saw the unit when I was there maybe 2 or 3 years ago, and it was in terrible shape. Just a big pile of rust. But, it sure had the overall shape of an E6. I believe it was to be moved to inside the new big building for the restoration. Maybe, somebody will let you in for pictures. That would be appreciated for sure if you could do that.
About five years ago, we road the "My Old Kentucky Dinner Train" from Bardstown on RJ Corman line. It was a neat trip.

Thanks for the compliment. I'll have to research the trackage around that truck plant, any good places to sit and watch trains?(without getting in trouble? Didn't get in trouble for sitting at that particular train crossing because it's in the middle of nowhere, hehe)
This Saturday I'm going to wait for the Dinner Train possibly at Deatsville. Might film it,might just do photos. Not sure.
Taken yesterday at a crossing just half a mile south of Bardstown Junction. Was coming down Highway 61 from Louisville, and noticed the train parked near the crossing. Waited in a church parking lot, about 500-1000 feet(I'm not good with guessing distance) from the train, since I noticed the lights were on,and the motors were running. I heard them release the air brakes a couple times. I wasn't sure when the train was going to move,so I went over the crossing, hoping to get a nice shot looking down the crossing at the train. When I came back over the crossing,I noticed the main headlight was on. So I got my mom to stop the car,I got out,and sure enough, the crossing gates come down, the train blows its horn and it took off.
I have more pictures, but the car antenna is noticeably visible in them. :( Well,I did get a few good pics, and I did learn something. Stand behind the car next time.

This line runs for ten miles from East Louisville to HK tower at Anchorage, where the Short Line goes North to Cincinnati and the EK continues east to Lexington. The C&O also operated two passenger trains from Lexington to MN tower about a half mile west of Frankfort Ave. One of these was the Louisville section of the George Washington. These trains terminated at Central Station on the waterfront until 1963 when the C&O finally changed to Union Station. Even C&O #490 the streamlined L-1 Hudson often seen on PBS' Tracks Ahead made it to Louisville in December 1950 just three years before she was retired and preserved at the B&O Musuem in Baltimore.
SimRacin40 wrote:Someone at another forum asked me if any "hot" (as they put it) passenger trains ran through that area,I personally don't know, but does anyone else know anything?
In pre-Amtrak times the Pan American to New Orleans and the every third day South Wind on the Chicago - Florida run were the premier trains running south from Louisville on the L&N.

Those are really good pictures!! Enjoyed seeing all of them, especially the KRM shots!
No passenger trains through here, unless you want to count the infrequent Inspection Trains, and any Derby Specials!!
The tracks along Frankfort Ave. are the old L&N Eastern Kentucky and Short Line tracks. They split and the Short Line goes to Cincinatti and the EK goes to Lexington, the C&O used this line to get from Lexington to Louisville. At work now all I have time for but will post more when I get home tonight.
