Mookie (and other people) seems like a nice person, and i've only been on these forums since August 1. (But i would be glad with four stars, color don't matter to me).

But when you get your own ring of people, talk with them all you want bout everything you want. This is America, after all.
I've learned tons of stuff about train (and not only about trains) here.
On the other note: ARR has 8 GP49 's they say they are the only ones it the country. True[?]

Not only do we have fun we also learn a ton of stuff about trains. If you want to ask questions please do, there are good people here who will answer then for you.But please lighten up. We don't want or need another "Missouri" type in the forums. That "person" did a lot of harm in the forums and turned people "OFF" Please don't follow in his footsteps.

Well, since I am the Mookie Stuff you are referring to, I guess I should respond. Since we are having to be very serious - I seriously asked you a question on one of your posts. You have seriously ignored me.

I am learning as I go with the railroad questions. I spend a good part of my free time trying to think of pertinent questions to ask, since I am an inquisitive person. I try to make my posts serious and not make a lot of frivilous comments. More than once I have made the decision not to make a comment, since I don't want this forum to degenerate into a comedy central situation. But after a thread has been around for so long or generated so many replies, how many times can you rehash a subject. I reply to some people that have yanked my chain before and we have some good-natured fun back and forth. Others, I try to be very serious and maybe even a little helpful.

I don't ask you to like me, my posts or my sense of humor. Don't read the parts marked Mookie. But by the same token, don't try to stifle the rest of the forum just because we don't fit your image of how we should reply.

If the Trains Magazine people want to discipline me for my thoughts, then they can and probably will do so by e-mail. If you want to do it in an open forum, that is your right. But it is also my right to think you are being a little narrow-minded and for that I do feel sorry for you. Now, go back and answer my question and I will reply with a thank you and no humor involved.

If you are limiting it to US trains, the big four railroads seem to have eliminated alot of the local flavor items in the name of standardization. I have seen some interesting items at some the military bases over the years.....up at the shipyard in Bremerton. WA, there is an interesting collection of antinque switchers (40/70 ton types) moving what used to be ships around on heavy duty flats and gons. At the shipyard in Newport News, the same,but stuff that is getting ready to be ships.
If your interests are elsewhere, the Mexican roads have some neat stuff, second hand ALCOs and such, that have been through many iterations and local modification. I would also direct you overseas. The Egyptian railway is like the old west, with folks and animals riding in open or on the tops of cars. I unfortunately have no pictures or links to offer, but I'm sure someone does. Or take a break from railroads like I did, not necesarliy by choice, but stuff changes and you get to relearn it over again.
