Grade Separations

The Sept. issue of Trains mentions new grade separations for IHB at 31St. LaGrange, IL and 47 th. St., and BNSF at Maple Ave., Brookfield, IL. plus others. Exactly what is planned for these separations. I live here and hard to imagine what might be done. IHB at 31St. is a problem as may get 'stuck' by as many as 3 5/15 mph trains at crossing at one time. Thanks for your reply.

If grade-separation projects I've seen in the past are any indication, don't expect trivial details such as existing buildings to stand in the way. I'm sure 31st Street will be put over the tracks, much like Cermak is. And I wouldn't be surprised to see some easing of the curves in connection with the 47th Street project (how could you do 47th without doing East Avenue too?).

The same problem exists with the proposals on the Southwest Side such as 63rd St on the BRC 59th St Line and several proposals along the IHB. The one proposal that looks impossible is the flyover at Belt Junction for the Metra Southwest Service over the BRC.
