No no, no! Not a 3x5 + 5x3 and/or 4x6 + 6x4! I realize the parallel mergers were a good thing back in the 70's, when computers started taking the business from the card companies. But now there's such a shortage of card capacity that I'll bet many of the guys that engineered the big mergers wi***hey had some of that space back. The Internet Highway System is getting more cogested everywhere you go. Instead of 3x5 and 5x3 merging and leaving 6x4 and 4x6 to combine, 3x5 should combine with 6x4 and 5x3 with 4x6. The new 3564 and 5346 companies will have all the advantages of longer lines and we can eliminate some of those terminal delays that occur when you have to unload you thoughts and start them on a new page. Now that 3x5 & 5x3 have digested their breakup of ConNote (that was formed to save the indusrty after the New York Note Paper and Keystone Cardstock merged into Papyrus Central that collapsed and took down everything from Erie Eraseable, Reading Booknotes and a host of other companies), I think the industry is ready for two 8x10 companies that can compete everywhere with each other.

The only question is will the STB (Scribing Typewriter Board) allow it?

Aww man, you have a card line running through your city? Man, the closest line near me is 100 miles away. I don't go cardfanning but every other month. The only thing I ever see are those 35.8" guys who keep patching over the smaller guys.

I can give you a great price on a ream of 85" x 11" but you will need a pickup truck to haul it. W tried to put one in a ladies car but it almost beat her to death on the way home.

The union put a stop to using any size with a dot in it. The company claimed it was our fault when the car load of 85" X 11" paper showed up.

I'm more interested in seeing the 8.5"X11" proposed merger with the 11"X8.5". I'm not convinced the government regulators would allow for such a large piece of paper, although its a little thinner than the 3X5 companies which may get them through.

The whole purpose of card deregulation in the 80's was to promote the card industry. Maybe there was some cards that shouldn't have been discontinued in case of future card needs, even if there were no viable users of those cards anymore. Re-regulating the card industry is NOT the answer!

Now you're on to something! I overlooked that we were talking about modern, bleached white 3X5 cards here. I tell ya....the world went to heck in a hand basket. In the good old days, they wrote notes on birch bark-and did a very fine job, thank you very much. Never had the opportunity to work with the birch bark cards. I did work on its successor which had a faded color but was otherwise in pristine condition. It wasn't 3x5 though nor 76.2x127 but much bigger.
The sheep was hurt though. Don't mention this to the lawyers or I will have to answer to a frivolous lawsuit.

I think it's high time the government stepped in to re-regulate this card size fiasco, no matter what those guys from AAWIC* think. I'll bet there are some politicians working on this effort as we speak! And high time, too!

Canada has the metric system, so that would make them 76.2X127mm.

Europe, however, does things a might different, and do not have 3X5 cards. Instead they (we?) use the ISO classification system (a letter & number) the closest they (we?) have is the so called B7 which is 3.64X4.92.

Our stores have only ever carried 5 x 3 cards. We have always had to order the metric ones from overseas but since they are imported and not made in the USA the union wouldn't let us.

Well I did e-mail Acme index card company. I'm waiting for them to e-mail me back. Am I the only one that remembers "the good old days", when index card companies cared about us *cardfans*???

And there isn't an H4 paint. There is only H1, 3, and 5. Everybody knows that.[D)]
