Post count.

1 purple star = 50 posts
2 blue stars = 100 posts
3 green stars = 500 posts
4 gold stars = 1000 posts
5 red stars = 2000 posts

That's all.

Regards

Ed

I really don't look at the stars much. I do look at the post count sometimes, especially if someone is taking on the characteristics of a troll. One post and outlandish claims usually add up to ignore....

Another forum I'm on doesn't use stars, but does use "titles." And it lists the post count. It's not a very active forum, so unless people are posting a lot on the other boards in the "family," the post counts aren't all that high.

Larry

Don't forget that we also have a few "resident" trolls. Sometimes they have several stars and love to stir up trouble. Then we also have a few "mentally challenged" members whose posts are generally like sticking their foot in their mouth and end up either deleted or locked.

I have mixed emotions about the stars. But they have been greately misused in the past by star chasers. As Larry said, sometimes the post count and stars can serve to point out a new troll.

Those of us who have been here for a while usually don't pay that much attention to the stars.

Too true - and we've come to expect it from them. I was referring to those folks who want to stir up trouble but don't want to muddy up their "real" name, so they create a new user, make inflammatory comments, all with about 2 total posts. Most also disappear after they open the hornets nest...

Its like grade school gold stars-aka brownie points for posting.

Nothing is more fairly distributed than common sense: no one thinks he needs more of it than he already has.

I don't have any stars under my name. I do a lot of reading posts, but not much writing. Maybe I'll get one soon - I've made three posts today. Certainly a record for me. Haven't really paid to much attention to the stars, glad you asked.

faces from that web site you have? By that I mean complete senteces composed only of them?

Chad - I was going to 'borrow" your stars, plus add a few more (now also including the 12 added) and start a "star war." But that would just be silly.[:o)]

Nice touch, though...

VSmith - You say I now have a star under my name? Haven't seen it yet, but what I really want to know is - how long did it take for two of our "crazies" to mark up all those beautiful stars? Chad Thomas and Upchuck, are you listening?

When posting - keep "dictionary.com" open. Not only will you have a good spell, you will know wherein what you speak. I think.

Some years ago a Chinese steamer was being shipped across the pond and the ship sank....So there is an unused one at the bottom of the sea.

Well now, there are a few variables to consider here.........................

1) Was the paper for this card shipped from a "captive" shipper, who only has access to one Class One?

2) Was any part of the production, and/or shipping of the card affected by the price of hauling wheat out of Montana over the old Milwuakee Road Pacific Coast Extention?

3) Was tar sand from Canada a factor?

4) Did the card ship on any "mean, old" Class One, that gobbled up someone's favorite fallen flag, and then,*horrors* painted over the old paint job?

5) How clean were the locomotives of above mentioned railroad?

6) Did the engineer wave?

7) Did he/she wave all 5 fingers at the railfans?

It's these, and other equally important matters that we have to clear up, before we can worry about how big a 3X5 card really is.[;)][:o)]

I am going to need a lot more charts and graph's not to mention boutique studies that no has read for years with a couple of But you said's and some No I meants thrown in before I will even begin to address a different issue you never brought up. Murph,

I want to know just what type of wood pulp the card was made with, too. If it's not whole fiber wood pulp, then it's only contributing to our national obesity problem.

Sorry for mentioning a "3X5" card in my description of size of an item....I seem to have inserted chaos into the system....I'll try to be more careful.....[(-D]

That's it. There is just no way this whole thing will be resolved without wholescale "Open access". Ya, Ya, I know there is that whole reality thing but that don't matter here. Bottom line, we need open access to other cards or we will witness first hand the fall of western civilization.

We'll have to start an organisation to protect 3X5 cards.. We'll get everyone to register and issue them with a card to say they're recognised by Homeland Card Security.. the card will have a phone number on it that can be called if anyone notices that a 3X5 card is being threatened.

Well I don't know but with the amount of 5x3 cards I've been seeing in the 3x5 deck lately there just has to be a merger in the works. MS, let me know when hear back from Acme.

Does anybody know if those new cards will be in H3 or H4 paint? Any heritage paint jobs in the works?

Well I did e-mail Acme index card company. I'm waiting for them to e-mail me back. Am I the only one that remembers "the good old days", when index card companies cared about us *cardfans*???

And there isn't an H4 paint. There is only H1, 3, and 5. Everybody knows that.[D)]

But if the 3x5 and the 5x3 merger occurs, that will mean that the 4x6 will have to buy out 6x4 so that it can still be the biggest card company there. I can already hear the whining from the 6x4 fans about the evil 4x6!

Our stores have only ever carried 5 x 3 cards. We have always had to order the metric ones from overseas but since they are imported and not made in the USA the union wouldn't let us.

You must send in a 3x5 card to Trains.com, provided that it meets all of the criteria on the previous pages.

Canada has the metric system, so that would make them 76.2X127mm.

Europe, however, does things a might different, and do not have 3X5 cards. Instead they (we?) use the ISO classification system (a letter & number) the closest they (we?) have is the so called B7 which is 3.64X4.92.

Never had the opportunity to work with the birch bark cards. I did work on its successor which had a faded color but was otherwise in pristine condition. It wasn't 3x5 though nor 76.2x127 but much bigger.
The sheep was hurt though. Don't mention this to the lawyers or I will have to answer to a frivolous lawsuit.

The whole purpose of card deregulation in the 80's was to promote the card industry. Maybe there was some cards that shouldn't have been discontinued in case of future card needs, even if there were no viable users of those cards anymore. Re-regulating the card industry is NOT the answer!

I'm more interested in seeing the 8.5"X11" proposed merger with the 11"X8.5". I'm not convinced the government regulators would allow for such a large piece of paper, although its a little thinner than the 3X5 companies which may get them through.

I can give you a great price on a ream of 85" x 11" but you will need a pickup truck to haul it. W tried to put one in a ladies car but it almost beat her to death on the way home.

No no, no! Not a 3x5 + 5x3 and/or 4x6 + 6x4! I realize the parallel mergers were a good thing back in the 70's, when computers started taking the business from the card companies. But now there's such a shortage of card capacity that I'll bet many of the guys that engineered the big mergers wi***hey had some of that space back. The Internet Highway System is getting more cogested everywhere you go. Instead of 3x5 and 5x3 merging and leaving 6x4 and 4x6 to combine, 3x5 should combine with 6x4 and 5x3 with 4x6. The new 3564 and 5346 companies will have all the advantages of longer lines and we can eliminate some of those terminal delays that occur when you have to unload you thoughts and start them on a new page. Now that 3x5 & 5x3 have digested their breakup of ConNote (that was formed to save the indusrty after the New York Note Paper and Keystone Cardstock merged into Papyrus Central that collapsed and took down everything from Erie Eraseable, Reading Booknotes and a host of other companies), I think the industry is ready for two 8x10 companies that can compete everywhere with each other.

The only question is will the STB (Scribing Typewriter Board) allow it?

You people just don't get it. Note card theory has been around for hundreds of years. It was shaping the future outcome of the notecard industry since Honest Abe was using a quill pen! Only a total ninny would dare argue with my note card theory, when it's so obviously right in my mind. Sometimes I think you people use note cards just for the sake of using note cards. How dare you use history and logic against me, just because all of you are wrong.

Don't you realize that this is a bad idea for so many reasons! I mean seriously, it's just a way to identify cardfans for the card companies. After all, 3x5 cards pose a real threat to homeland security. Can you imagine if a terrorist used 3x5 cards in an attack?

Besides, signing up for the program will just mean that we will have a bunch of card carrying card fans running wild like Barney Fife. No thank you, I think I'll remain an anonymous cardfan.

First the Japanese and Europeans, and now the Chinese!!! When will this country finally wake up to the need for hi-definition index cards? The government needs to finance and promote HDIC. It's the future!!! We just need to get over our reliance on non-efficient post-it-notes. All we need is a big ol' tax on post-it-notes. That would not only cut down the useage of post-it-notes, but the windfall from this tax could be used to financeHDIC. Wake up folks!

The thread might have gotten hijacked, but it's been one of the more amusing on the forums in a while...

I heard that Stuart Hall was going to spend millions building a new state of the art index card press in Indianapolis, expecting to creat jobs for thousands of Ohio buckeyes, but the Riley Children's hospital is blocking it, telling them to take the ohio jobs to illinois, where it won't threaten innocent sick children with paper cuts.

Those fools! There was paper long before there was an Indianapolis. It must be a conspiracy of

I'm sorry...I just don't like the photography in Classic Index Cards. Popular Index Cards and Notetaking strives to meet the needs of the aesthetically appreciative card fan. I pity the poor souls that only get the former without the latter.

Anybody else see the article in this month's Progressive Business Card about imported Chinese index cards causing a bottleneck in 3X5 card infrastructure rates? [:-,][:o)]

Pretty soon it will get so bad that the people at Wayerhouser and Georgia Pacific will no longer have incentive to plant "paperstock" trees, and then you know what will happen? Ayn Rand will write another book.

Any truth to the rumor that 3x5 cards in the future will be made out of the government subsidized, leftovers from ethanol plants?  (Mischief [:-,])

I hope they make them 4x6, the writing on 3x5 cards can get so small trying to get all my thoughts on them, wait, maybe a 2x4 would work fine for that!

Are those issued on standard 3X5 white index cards?  I think the index card cops are out to get me.  They just want to throw their weight around, and flash their 3X5's.Evil [}:)]

Regurgitating this thread and seeing some of the old names makes me think about how much I miss people who insisted on arguing in the abstract.
