There was once a boy in my school a couple years ago (he wasn't here for very long and was in a lower grade) that had an artificial leg. I don't know all the circumstances behind it, but I do know that he lost it because of a train. Just another of the many reasons to stay off the tracks.

Here in Maryland, some old E-units were still in service along the commuter line until '95 or '96.

Well, we had another fatality near Kingston Ontario last weekend. A 15 year old was killed while walking on the CN tracks by a VIA passenger train. The National safety Board will conduct an inquiry into the accident. We must find out why a 4 car passenger train with it's brakes locked on and horns blaring could not avoid someone who was trespassing on private property. Nuff said!!!

I saw that movie to and was thinking the same thing! Only in Hollywood does good photography trump good judgement.

I saw that movie to and was thinking the same thing! Only in Hollywood does good photography trump good judgement.

Does anyone know when this film was shot and what line and location it is. Being on the west coast, alot of the places refered to in passing on this forum might as well be on the Moon to me, but I'd like to know. The little girl was walking with her daddy (my thoughts). Her view was blocked by him. I know it all happened very fast but I can't understand why he didn't yell, or extend his arm and protect her. She probally didn't even see it coming. It is just so sad. [:(] [V]

You can tell here in Brunswick that many people dont think. CSX recently put up a fence because of the amount of [idiots] trying to cross before the train. Commuters race the gates, and then pass through them when the trains are trying to back into the yard, and we have had many close calls, and one incident within the past 5 years. The incident was a deaf woman, who had come to town for some coffee, and had parked in the commuter parking lot between two pairs of mainline tracks. On her way to her car, she crossed the tracks on one end of the station platform, instead of walking to the crossing just at the other end. I am glad I wasn't at work that day, or I would have seen what they had to wa***he tracks off and keep the one set of tracks closed for two days because.

Another problem causing CSX to put the fence up is the [idiots] who come and act carelessly at the city's railroad festaval. The museum has an excursion on a commuter train and CSX still runs full force as well throughout the two days the event goes on. 3 cases: One woman decided she wanted to cross (at the same place the above woman did) instead of going to the crossing. her one obsticle: the commuter train (then boarding). Instead of goung around the train at the crossing, SHE WENT UNDER IT!!! even though it is a 2-3 track line, and a CSX freight could come through on the other side. she of course was caught before completely crossing under the train. Scene 2: a man and his son were waiting for the excursion train to come in to the station for boarding. as soon as they heard the horn and saw the lead locomotive, I heard the gentleman tell his son, as i also heard the clank of coins, "put these on the track, son." I then turned (I was working as an assistant collecting tickets) and saw the man hand his son five coins. i of course stopped the boy, and told them both that it was #1 Dangerouse, and #2 Illeagal. Finally, scene three is all of the people at the event who want to go to their car, but dont want to go the extra 100 or so feet to the road crossing, and run over the switch (Yes i said a switch, turnout, whatever) on the CSX main line. But what could have happened if #1 the excursion left with the woman under it or a CSX was coming behind it just as she came out, #2 the boy was too slow and got sideswiped, or #3 people got caught in the switch and hit by a train?

My last point, if a cat can't cross the track in front of a train without being sliced in half (Sorry all of you cat lovers, but I have seen that) then how can we expect ourselves to?

I was thinking A stopped locomotive, like the on the left, CAN NOT emit such a high pitched horn sound. It is alot LOWER when a locomotive is not moving. That would ahve been my second clue, my first would have been the lowered gates.


And in thsi day and age, we have time Delayed and motion activated RR lgihts, if the locomotive is standing still for 15-20 secondes, the corssing barriers go up, If another train appraches, they go back down.. thats why sometimes we stop at a station for a long time, and if we see the barriers go up, Technically AS SOON as we start moving again, the gates SHOULD go back down, Sometimes it takes maybe a second, so we have a rule in place now that is 10 MPH until the crossing is corssed, (only applies if we stop at the station beofre the corssing, and the gates go up)

Also me being A fire fighter I worked three incedents At gas stations where some one pumping gas cell phones lite up when they ring where theres light theres electricity and there a spark which ignites the gas and boom
