And now for something completely differnt...

Since this section of the forums sees the most traffic I thought I'd post this here first.

Do you have a home-made personal website? I see that some people around here do but they're all scattered around and I bookmark each railroad site I visit, but I thought maybe we can organize by putting everyone with a private website in one forum topic.

My website was a hodge-podge of stuff a couple months ago but recently I've been working to organize it and make it exclusivly railroading related as well as easier to navigate. All the photos are one that I took around home or on vacation. A couple were given to me by friends. I still have dozens of photos to scan and upload so the site will be growing every couple of days (when I get the stupid scanner fixed! [:(!])

Yeah, this might be shameless self-promotion, but I want to include everybody that maintains their own website, too.

Just click that little button down there that says website to see mine. A word of caution: the host has gone offline a few times recently so if you get a "page cannot be displayed" page try refreshing the window or try again at a later time. If anybody knows of any free webhosting that doesn't go offline please let me know.

Got one too, but its for my pen/pencil writing instrument business.
But having all the train related site in one forum posting would make it a lot easier to look at you guys photos.

YES! I have one also and it is trains related.

I do volunteer work at the Museum of Transportation in St. Louis. Nearly all the work I do is related to the trolley operation that we have. I would be delighted for everyone to see what we have done. Please visit the site at:

The last time I was at the museum was June 2000. I didn't know such a project was under way. When did it get started? Is there a map for this trolley route? I saw that picture of the guys cutting rail. My friend's dad told me a story on how he had to learn how to cut a rail by hand. When he asked why he had to do it that way the instructor told him "to show you that there's a better way."

I have some pictures from my last visit to the museum at my site. Sorry, no trolleys, but I do have a whole album full of trolley postcards that belonged to my grandparents. They date back to at least the 1960s or '70s as well as some other postcards of the museum. This album has been lost in storage and if I ever find it I'll try to make some of them available for viewing.

I also have some other pictures of trains in and around St. Louis and Illinois.

Keep 'em coming, folks. It's interesting to see what other people are putting up how other people organize their websites.

ironhorseman;i was a member at the museum (i forgot to renew this year, but thats not the point) i belive that construction started some time in mid 2001, correct me if I am wrong sbinning, but there is no map, the trolley route consists of a few electrified tracks and only one reverse loop, so for right now they just run the cars back and fourth, however i am interested to know if the MOT i planning a second reverse loop? for continous running some time in the future?

[:(] This is to inform everyone that my current website www.kansaspacific.mysitespace.com has been deactivated. The host has suspended free service and offers no explanation. It's still viewable but I cannot edit it anymore. I emailed them about what was going on and got this responce:

I might have stated questions in a hypothetical way but I do not make presumptions. They also blocked me from their forums. It's interesting that this person who has no idea what I'm talking about would take it upon himself to deactivate me and it's also interesting he didn't have the guts to sign his name. I signed my name on my email.

I did check the facts:
1 cannot login
2 cannot get password emailed to me
3 "free user refer to forums"
4 went to forums, nothing about logging in for free users
5 - 1 topic said go to mydotnames.com to have your account redirected for free
what this does, for example, is if you type kansaspacific.com it takes you to kansaspacific.mysitespace.com
6 they said it was free, i get there , they want $12.95/yr
7 mysitespace.com accounts cost $4.44/mo, a $1 increase from last week.
8 there is also no way that I've found in getting a new account there, it has to paid for.

I double checked all these facts before I sent the email.

Thank you all who had visted and signed my guestbook and wrote on my message board. In addition to anyone who has seen my website through these forums I have to inform scores of friends and family I've sent links to on various projects at my website I've told them about.

Here's a random thought - Many people have asked about how to post pictures on the forums, the first requirement of which is to have the image on a website. Those of us with easy access to a website have it easy. Not everyone has that kind of access.

If it wouldn't violate too many terms of the service agreements, etc, perhaps someone would be willing to set up one of the freebie websites and use it to host pictures for those who can't do it themselves. The images could be emailed to the administrator, who would upload the picture and advise the requestor of the URL for inclusion in their posts/signatures.

There is, of course, no guarantee that the free site will be up forever, and there should be some arbitrary limit as to how much and what folks can post (in part because the space available on these sites is finite), but it just might work.

Or, maybe someone has the resources to do the same thing on an existing server that they have access for.

Lastly - When I got my internet account, it included some personal website space. Some of you may have that, but have never used it. Check with your ISP, and if you do, make use of it. There is plenty of help out there for doing webpages. I'm a "command line commando" - I write from scratch instead of using programs (like Word) to create my pages.

Just a thought.

I have a personal site. Right now I just use it to publish family photos so that my in-laws and parents can see my daughter growing up.

I have maintained sites in the past (personal and professional), it gets to be a real task trying to keep it fresh.

I would love see more sites with train photos. Keep passing them on...
