Night Passage was recently released in DVD format <www.universalstudios.com/home>. The Titfield Thunderbolt is only available in PAL format. Searching on the title will turn up distributors in the UK. I had a copy converted to North American format at a nearby store that specializes in electronics for overseas travelers. Asian-oriented video stores can probably do these conversions, too.

Titfield Thunderbolt IS avalible in Region 1 format [:D] but its an out of print video[V], hence ebay , where I got my copy.
Be advised on ebay when purchasing video. A lot of titles are transfers from PAL, or Asia type formats and the pic quality is lesser than normal. Still beats not having certain titles.[;)]

I've seen a lot of railroad movies. The movie called "The Tall Target" has some of the most exciting Civil War era railroad action I have ever seen. Unfortunately it is not available on video or DVD.

engineer 1 Does that movie center around a mountain with troops on one side having a cannon up in the mountain keeping the trains from going through? I very well could be confussed, but I have seen a movie such as this (when I was little). You just jogged by memory about it. The other side took piano wire and wrapped it around their cannon, to keep the barrel from blowing up, and then they could add enought gun powder to reach up the slope and knock out the other cannon. If this is the same movie, it was a good movie.

Everyone stay safe, and always Look, Listen, and LIVE.

Remember the troops.

W O W, I never knew there were so many railroad movies. This winter I am going to watch alot of old railroad movies. Danger Lights really sounds interesting, and there was an article in Trains a while back that talked about Danger Lights and a few other railroad movies.

I wanted to share something with yall and bring this thread back to daylight so here goes.

Some of you know this and yet I find people who don't so I will share it here. [:0] [8] [B)] [:p] Pentrel has weekly email special and this week they really have some good ones. There has been alot of questions about turbine locomotives the last 6 months or so and one of the specials for this week is about UP Streamliners. They usually offer 3 to 6 or so movies on special each week so I will list the web addy and you can check it out if you want to.

http://www.pentrex.com

Now the second reason I bring this topic back is the fact that now it is getting cooler/colder people will be staying inside more and watching tv, or movies. I plan to find some of the ones suggested and watch them and thought a reminder for others would be good.

There are also ALOT of new members who might have a movie to contribute to the thread. So anyway post some new movies or watch some of the ones already posted and have a blast. BTW Let me be the first to wish you a HAPPY THANKSGIVING and a MERRY CHRISTMAS. [:D]

How about "Runaway Train" with Jon Voight and Eric Roberts? They escape from prison and stow away on an old yard engine that is out of control etc etc etc

An excellent performance by a no talent actress named Rebecca Demournay takes a lot away from the film.

Is that the movie where they are climbing on the outside of an old F unit during a snow storm?

Movie not mentioned often is 'It Happened to Jane'. Lots of NewHaven scenes and steam cab action. Doris Day, Jack Lemmon and Ernie Kovacs

Any mention "North by Northwest"?

I have to admit that I like "Silver Streak"

I know this topic is for railroad movies, but I think it will be okay to post this here. I saw REM's video to "Driver 8" on VH1 Classics the other day. It shows some yard action on the C&O, and I think it shows other roads too. If there's a big REM fan here on the forums, maybe he/she can tell me what Driver 8 means.

Take care

Atomic train was SO bad. I was wincing the whole time. Here is my review to save all of you from bothering to watch it.
Some idiot wants to ship a nuke warhead, but in order to save money on insurance, he calls it “Russian caviar” and puts it in some old boxcar. This train is powered by two older widecab fouraxle GE’s. Also on this train is gons of nasty chemicals in 55 gallon drums. While going over the Rockies towards Denver some of the chemicals leak and eat through the brake line, causing the train to have no brakes (wait, I thought if all the air dumps out the brakes come…. oh, never mind) Dynamics are an unknown feature to this engineer and I wouldn’t put him in charge of a toy train. Some how they get it stopped but a bumbling engineer in chase locos runs in the back trying to quote “save lives”. This caused the stopped trains brakes to quote “burn out” and roll out of control. Everybody then jumps off because they pulled the rails on the next bend as a last ditch effort to stop the train.
Surprise, the chemicals catch fire, but the bomb doesn’t go off. As somebody is disarming it, a fire helo dumps water to put out the fire. The water reacts with a chemical causing a big explosion that finally sets off the nuke, killing lots of people. Another hour of the movie goes on with the destruction of Denver.
I give this movie a rating of “not even worth propping up the coffee table to make it level.”

Atomic Trian was BEYOND bad, just plain crap and all copies and the masters should be burried at Yucca Mountain with rest of the waste.

There were 2 other runaway train TV movies;

Disaster on the Coastliner, with Bill Shatner about a terrorist who taps into the communication controls of the rail line and convinces the engineer of one train that other terrorists are trying to stop the train all the while its he's heading for a head-on with a train carrying some diplomate or something. They come up with a "novel" idea to stop the collision by building a crossover in an hour to connect the parallel tracks hence diverting the diplomates train away from danger onto the opposite track, but can they repair the line before the second train gets there?

This one I cant remember the title, I think it was also called "Avalanche Express" (Thanks to Scottydog and Taylor1 who remembered the name, see posting below) from the late 70's or early 80's about a ski-train full of passengers that looses its brakes coming down the mountain and they have to stop it before it hits the station. They stop it by using another locomotive to come up behind it, couple to it at high speed, and use the other engines brakes to stop the train.
