IHMO its wrong and down right immoral to use those types of accusations and twisted facts against the railroads their employees(who must live with that accidental killing for the rest of their lives) and Operation Life Saver..

I know i am still a newcomer to this forum,and my opinion remains humble,but i think the site should remain clean.Like so many others have said here it is ok to disagree,but when the tone becomes vulger and abusive,they should not have the privlage of posting to the site.

For what it's worth, I have blocked him from the entire website. While it's not 100% effective, I'm doubtful he will know how to get around the block.

If by chance he does make his way back, please let us know (in case we missed it).

Cabforward is very right, i have to admit.. I am a gorilla, escaped from the Quebec city zoo that takes steroids to increase my strength.. I do deserve a life time achievement award for bullying people.. that is what i do best.. i see a three year old with a candy.. my candy now.

there are people who bait others into an argument and there are people who look for someone to draw into them into an argument so they can get upset about something..

this is some of both.. missouri did show bias against r.rs. and he didn't care who knew it..

others who have some knowledge about r.rs. obviously got a turn-on debating the issue(s).. some prowl discussions hoping to show-off what they know and bullying others away from the topic.. i nominate detour kevin for the lifetime achievement award in this category..

it takes 2 to make an argument.. what if noone answered missouri.. what influence would he have then? which is worse, a missouri who posts half-truths about r.rs., or detour kevin, who behaves like a gorilla on steroids?

who has the chance to show more maturity and control, the goofus who posts messages that makes people angry, or the moron who responds with a unique form of terrorism?

it is not what happens to us, it is how we respond that shows the true measure of our wisdom..

missouri took cheap shots at r.rs., the workers and management.. he offended many who work in the industry and many railfans.. but really, didn't anger in replies give him what he wanted? every angry word gave him the reinforcement to keep writing.. and there were plenty of short-sighted people who itched for the chance to tell him off, pouring more gas on the fire..

telling him off gave missouri more fuel to write more, angering more people to reply to him, giving him more fuel, etc..

this was mutual combat between missouri and everyone who rose to the occasion with a '[bleep] you'
..

if i had to assign blame to one side, and there is plenty for both sides, i must choose those who replied to missouri with anger, foul language and general bad deportment..

missouri upset many people who posted replies and many more who read his messages without posting.. reading the very limited forum policy on posting messages, missouri did nothing (or very little) wrong in posting anti-r.r. messages..

the forum policy bans foul language, personal attacks, disrespect for others.. that's it..

missouri posted his beliefs and alleged reports from sources which were suspect.. but if he wants to believe this, so what? if he wants to post it, so what? nobody has a gun against their head to post an angry reply to missouri.. you don't like it, fine! post a message that says you disagree and let it go! everybody can post a message that says they disagree, and then they should all let it go!

what is the post that has had the most number of replies recently? can you take a guess? it's missouri, dudes! missouri has a zillion messages telling him how dumb he is, how wrong he is, how everyone should ignore him, blah-blah-blah! guess what, nobody ignores him, they keep writing!

know why? because they like it!! they like it like people who drive by an accident slow down to look at the bodies, the blood and the expressions on the faces of the victims, the police, etc..

would people post angry messages to missouri if they didn't want to and didn't enjoy running this guy out-of-town?? is this a trick question??

the threat to this forum is not the nutcase who posts ideas that outrage 99% of people, it's the goofballs who can't wait to lynch anyone with an idea that goes against their grain or the beliefs that they have held since they were old enough to have a belief..

Hey Paul 3... you must not live in Canada. I'm holding my ISP contract, which is 4 pages long.. a meere picture book compared to my friend's American "Comcast" ISP sontract, which is 32 pages long.

That being Said, it is fully known that Canada is more Liberal. The united States is Quite conservative compared to us.. Not that theres anyhtign Wrong with that!

I act based on my social up bringing, and the society i have been surrounded by since i was 1. I Am not Socially inept, a pain, a nuissance to society or any of that.

And you see what i mean? you'll never be able to block missouri for good, you got 1, 2, 3 there now.. sure you can block 1 throguh 4... then he'll come up with missouri04.. how many other people out there mastered in psycology..?

Having stated my opinion regarding crossing safety -vs- darwin award winners in other postings, I have said my piece and not having anything further to say on it i previously decided that I would not post a reply to any subject posted by Misery, I mean Missouri. I agree with those who say just ignore any posting by him that has to do with his rants and maybe he'll get the idea that we dont want to play with him if he's going to pee in the sandbox. I do not believe banning anyone is a good idea no matter what they say, the choice is yours, reply and fuel the fire, or disregard and let it die out. I dont know what fuels Misery's, I mean Missouri's rants, maybe a family tragedy, I dont know and I dont want to know. It takes everyone on this forum to decide how we can carry on an intellegent conversation about a subject we may or may not agree with, but we do carry on discussions in a friendly manner for the most part. Its a shame that some people use it as a platform for there own anger or pain.

If annoying the vast majority of posters is a reason to kick somebody off, so be it. The only thing you and I can do is either live with their rules and behavior, or leave. Heck, you can even start your own forum, where you can decide who can stay and who must go. [:D]

Personally, I have found Trolls destructive to a group. If you don't keep a lid on them, they multiply in number, feeding off each other's hate (or whatever) until the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds acceptable limits, and all the good posters leave to find greener pastures. That Trains.com has found it necessary to protect their forum by removing somebody because of Trollish behavior is fine with me.

Trains.com (Kalmbach), a private company, has the right to include or ban anybody they want to. Personally, I have found Trolls destructive to a group. If you don't keep a lid on them, they multiply in number, feeding off each other's hate (or whatever) until the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds acceptable limits, and all the good posters leave to find greener pastures. That Trains.com has found it necessary to protect their forum by removing somebody because of Trollish behavior is fine with me.

I have just started using these forums recently and am enjoying them alot. I have followed the Missouri saga. I think that Ed has made some very excellent points. In my opinion, Missouri should be permantly kicked off the site. Giving someone a "time out" as a warning and then letting them back on would seem like a very sensible cousre of action in some cases (ex: someone who continuously uses foul language), but I think that Missouri has gone way too far and really stretched the limits. The comeback as Missouri2 and the remarks made under "Kalmbach Publishing and Censorship" shows a complete lack of respect for the people who run this site. These forums should be a place where people can gain information, discus railroading and make friends with simmilar interests. Members may have dissagreements, but when it comes down to it all, all the people here have one basic thing in common-we all love trains. All Missouri has done is start arguments while trying to promote his extremist views on his deep, deep hatred of railroads and railroaders. If let back on, he would only continue with this. These have only caused heated arguements and made many people lose their tempers. Newcomers, such as myself may falsely think that all people do on these fourms is rant and rave at each other. This site should be for railfans, not rail-haters. Well, you asked for feedback and that's what I think.

I may have not made my position quite as clear as I intended to. For that, I am sorry. What I was trying to get across is that the rules here have to apply to us all, equally. Yes, this is the property of kalmabach, and yes, they are free to invite or refuse a person membership.
Now, I will be the first to point out that mr pines had no intention of attempting to promote crossing safety, but instead, has been here picking fights, for no other reason than to get attention. He has yet to state a viewpoint, or attempt to explain his actions, I doubt you could find one person here who could explain missouris postion, or the reason for his "cause" or "crusade"
I had a friend, a captain in the criminal research division of the Texas Rangers do a profile of missouri, and the results were posted here for all to see. Yes, that was real, just written in my words, or paraphrased to protect my friend.
You will never get a argument from me, I agree whole heartedly that Mr Pines is a real live loney toon. My friend ended his profile with this comment, "this is a truly wretched soul", and I agree. The editor of his local newspaper, whom I e-mailed, didnt respond, but the assistant to the editor did. They no longer read or open any mail received from him, or the several alias mr pines operates under. They go directly in the shredder. I agree, I wouldnt waste my time either, bobby pines sole reason for being here to cause as much discomfort and argument as he can, he has even attacked one of the people who seemed to support his wild accusations. What I was trying to do in my last post was play devils advocate, in a way. If, and I emphasise if, mr. pines, aka mossouri, or missouri2, or 3 thru 1000 is asked to stay away, or banned, which, after reading his new posting, full of foul and crude gibberish, seems to be the best soultion, I wanted David, and us, to be aware of why he was banned. There has been several State Supreme Court rulings to back up Davids actions, and they all mention this, it is the right, and duty, of the managers or owners of a site like this to protect its members from harm, weather real or percived. They have the legal right to revoke or remove your membership, at their descretion. I suggest they excersise their right to do so.

I agree with your decision. I also agree with the other contribtors: the best way to rid ourselves of the pest is to ignore it. This person can always reenter the site under a new name, so to ban a particular name is probably more symbolic than anything.

However, what we the members of this forum, can do to rid ourselves, is to not reply (however strong the urge) to any entry that resembles the ramblings of the delusional. We can refuse to even view a site that has Missouri in the name, and if we are duped by an alias into reading another entry, we can just not reply.

I agree with your decision. I also agree with the other contribtors: the best way to rid ourselves of the pest is to ignore it. This person can always reenter the site under a new name, so to ban a particular name is probably more symbolic than anything.

However, what we the members of this forum, can do to rid ourselves, is to not reply (however strong the urge) to any entry that resembles the ramblings of the delusional. We can refuse to even view a site that has Missouri in the name, and if we are duped by an alias into reading another entry, we can just not reply.

It is my opinion that Kalmbach has a right to expect a certain behavior from forum members. Certain words cannot be used. Offensive posts need to be banned and removed when they occur. Violators of these policies must be dealt with. You will have to prepare for a scale of actions that could be implemented to meet the severity if the infraction. Missouri falls into this category. The "time out" may just be one of the first in a series of actions that could be taken. The initial stages may be privately between Kalmbach & the member, with information posed on the site where the more severe measures would be posted. Then you can cite the rule, if you do this enough, we could & would do that.

Mr.Pines aka missouri has not only used this site but other sites as well to call railroaders murders etc etc.I think it was limited clear who found other articles to other papers.I found one in the sullivan newspaper editorial page 7-5 -03 where he does what he does here.thanks to goab who found his address too.I feel that he doesn't get it and will use any means at his disposal to continue his ravings.

I, too, have had my fill of Missouri, or Mr. Pine, as Ed called him. There are people whose mission in life is to throw grenades and yank chains simply to get a hornets nest stirred up, and then walk away laughing about those stupid jerks that can't see what's going on. It is sad to say, but I think Missouri is one of them. I have to deal with people of his attitude and actions 8 hours a day. That is 8 hours too many and I don't need it here.

I have said, and others have also, if we ignore him, he will go away. When he initiates a thred, don't visit and don't answer. If he tries to disrupt an ongoing thread, ignore him. Unfortunately, while the rest of us wait for him to go away, a lot of the folks we would like to talk with will go away first - and not come back.

I have been with the web site since 2001 and declined to participate, in part, for the Missouri types that seem to infest these forums elsewhere. it's not the disagreements of opinion, it's how he handles it. Another participant on these forums had been on a jury about a crossing accident, and got all worked up about "the evil railroads". He could have put himself in Missouri's current position, but he did not. He acknowledged others valid opinions and the realities of the "real situations". He did not change his mind. He did not become obnoxious and, I believe, still is a valuable contributor to our discussions here.

Since you are asking for suggestions, here is mine. Keep him off, say, the rest of July. Then, let him post, and if you can, monitor his posts prior to them actually getting on the site. That way, if he still is being a bad boy, we are free of his actions. If you can't monitor first, than monitor afterwords, and if he has not shaped up, than a permanent boot. No questions asked, no notice given.

I do not wi***o have anyone banned from these forums, but when we have a disease, we do things that rid our bodies of that disease. Missouri is a disease.

It's one thing to post something that no one else agrees with. We're not going to ban someone due to a difference of opinion or for complaints made about the website, our magazines, books, videos, etc.

There is a point though where it goes from being merely a difference of opinions, criticism, or a friendly argument to being disruptive and doing "nothing more than cause problems and start fights".

You guys are getting awfully worked up about missouri. When I was a kid, my parents told me that persons like missouri are either trying to draw attention to themselves or trying to see if they can get someone all worked-up, and that if everyone would ignore them, they'd go away.

Just make him go away!

I view these forums as a means of furthering knowledge about railroading. There are enough idiots to deal with in daily life without having to get into it here. I will admit that all this todo over missouri is slightly amusing though.

Hello everyone,

In case any of you are wondering where missouri is over the weekend, I wanted to let everyone know that I've given missouri a "time out" from the site. This was soley my own doing and decision. On Monday, I'll let Erik and others know about this and we'll go from there.

I respect everyone's right to an opinion and freedom of speech. On the other hand, people also have the right to choose what they read and what they listen to. Private sites also have the right to choose what they publish on their sites. Having said that, it's my opinion that missouri has gone on long enough with the anti-railroad postings. Quoting documents and citing references out of context, the tone of his posts and the unrelenting direct accusations made against the railroad and the people who work for the railroads are some of the things that factored into my decision.

So before Monday, I would like to get some feedback from all of you regarding the actions taken against missouri. What do you think about the situation. Do you agree, disagree or feel indifferent?
