You know, i'm not a big country fan BUT i do know a few goood Railraod songs, these ones are the kind that give you CHILLS...

"Somwhere down the crazy river" by Robbie Robertson.

The only Bluegrass I listen to, is the band that put out the CD "A bluegrass Tribute to U2"

....Just a comment: Last time I saw Hank Snow I was sitting in the 2nd row of the Grand Ole Opry at Nashville on a Saturday evening...He got a lot of applause from the audience. He was hosting that nights program. He was a small man in size but seemed very large to the audience. Can't tell the exact date but it probably was in the range of 20 years ago. He was wearing flashy green custom western garb with the flashing sequins a plenty and I believe his big hat was white...Just as dblstack mentions above.

Although I was too young to remember Hank Snow in his prime, I can distinctly remember one of his album covers from Dad's collection of music. A long string of box cars going from near on the left side to far on the right side. Seems like hank was in the middle w/ a guitar and a cowboy hat, maybe a white one.

Now to the slightly more modern, how about "Long Train Runnin' " by the Dobbie Brothers? Gotta love that guitar.

The really nice thing is that at www.bluegrasscountry.org you can listen to free 24-hour bluegrass and country, 7 days a week. It DOES help to have a broadband connection if you want to use the phone. (The teenagers take care of the latter, of course.) At least once a week I've picked up an entire hour of "train songs" from really old stuff like the Lehman Brothers to fairly new such as the Seldom Scene.

Even better was living in Fort Worth, where on any given weekend you had your choice of maybe 20 or 30 (I kid you not on the numbers) country or bluegrass bands, ranging from the biggest names to fabulously good up-and-comers that most people have never heard of.

songs by country artists. Johnny Cash recorded Hey Porter, Folsum Prison Blues, Rock Island Line ,Orange Blossom Special, City of New Orleans.
Restless Heart had Ride the Hummingbird. Roy Acuff recorded Tennessee
Central #9 and the Wabash Cannonball. Here's a group from East Tennessee
with a couple of train songs. Check out Pine Mountain Railroad and their
album Knoxville Train. Cool bluegrass. Wille Nelson did a cool renditition of the City of New Orleans too.

Another artist whose music has always set the scene for me is John Denver. With Country Roads..Thank God I'm A Country Boy.. Rocky Mount High...Back Home Again... He also has a CD out called " All Aboard" filled with all the above favorites...Just gives you that small town feeling as does Freight Trains as they hammer down the line!!
