When you go to your son's band concert and realize that the horn player is hitting the exact note of a GP-7 horn.

when you are in a public restroom and when the berings of the vent fan are bad they sound to you like an idaling older EMD

when you go to a museum and you open youre mouth you get told the secret to opining the backshop door at the MTM jackson steet roundhouse

when you go to another rr museum and you tell the guide that he/she is wrong

when another family member asks you about a tool and as you are exsplaing how it works you get a crowd around ya

when you railfan in -30 below temps

you get asked about the knukle coupler hitch cover on youre pickup and the person that asked you looks at you funny
have safe and happy steam season

You know your a railfan when.....

you do 80 plus mph in a 40 mph zone, just to get to the next location before the same train you saw further up the line reaches that location.

you put K5LA air horns on your car or truck.

When you work for a railroad and still like to work on old steam, models, and collect tons of old Rock Ilsand lines paperwork cards, etc etc
You like reading these topics cauyse maybe you missd the pror ones and wi***hat maybe the pissy pissertons would just keep comments to themselves ( some more coal for that there big boy ya'all)
No matter how bad a day it is the worst day working /fanning/modeling a railroad is better than the best day at work in the normal world!

Yes we are on time but this is yesterdays train

You can listen to an audio tape of a GP9, a GP7 and an F3 and can tell which one is which by the sound. Same for E7s and E8s.

I have some to add-
...you can tell the difference between a N&W whistle and a Milwaukee road whistle.
...you can tell an E-unit from an F-unit by just listening to the engine.(F has 1 engine; E has 2)
...you memorized the entire roster of your favorite railroad.
...you can tell an EMD from a GE by listening to the air horn.
...you will never get over IC scrapping their U33C's on 5/18/84
...you know the exact date IC scrapped their U33C's

You will NEVER get over the fact they scrapped all your favorite steamers (EM-1,in my case)
You try to tell the body shop what Bando Blue (or Armour Yellow, etc.) is.
Your house is painted in your favorite RR lineside colors.
Nearly all your bookmarks are train sites.
You want Discovery to start a train channel.

If there are no dogs in heaven, then I want to go where they go.
