I am a new member and have been reviewing old posts starting at the back and working forward. A great way to learn a thing or two and to get familiar with some of the others here--at least those who post often. I was intrigued with the ages that have been reported. For a long time I thought I was going to be the oldest member at 76--though I don't (always) feel that age. Fortunately I found a few other "old geezers" so I can now feel a little younger. I'm not really a train buff but I enjoy the magazine and also this forum. I do hope I have a few less typos in this than I see in many other posts. Maybe we need spellcheck.

42 w/a birthday coming in May. My girlfiend just turned 29. She makes me feel much younger. I am old enough to remember the Rock Island, Santa Fe black & white switchers, 40 foot boxcars hauling grain, SF stockcars, pre Amtrk trains and cabooses. The good ole'days long gone by.

I became 74, legally, on 25 January, and I remember Central of New Jersey 4-6-0 camelbacks on the Jersey Shore New York and Long Branch and B & O camelbacks on the Staten Island Rapid Transit (freight service). Also barely remember the last of the Green Lines (already owned by GM), New York Railways 86th Strreet Crosstown in Manhattan bussed the summer of 1936. Most of all remember the terrific job the railroads and streetcars and rapid transit did in WWII. And believe the USA MUST be prepared to be energy independent as soon as possible.

Also have dim memories of the New York Central's West Side Freight Line before it was covered over by Riverside Park.

It will be good because all of the HKS, American Racing and other performance parts companies will have a lot more of a selection of tuner parts. Also Recaro seats will have a wider selection, as well as the companies such as Euro will have many more bumpers, grilles, and side skirts to make the exterior look even better. How much will all this cost? HKS turbo x 2, Euro taillights, Euro bumpers, NOS system.............................

Well about all that my parents will let me say is that I am still in high school.

On the question of driving I think my first time was 8 years old, so forget Canada all you have to do to be able to drive is get out of the city. If you are on a farm you can drive at any age you want.

However after you get past the age when you are just driving on the farm, you get tired of driving. It is not fun, so those of you who can't drive yet don't be in any hurry. Just enjoy taking the bus or getting driven everywhere by your parents.

well here in Aus you cant LEGALLY drive till your 16 1/2 when you get a learners then you get you Ps when your 17 and stay on them for 3 years then you get your open licence, Ps just mean you have 8 demerit points instead of 12 for your license and on your learners you only get 4! whats the rules in the US?

Hmmmm...first thing is, I breathed on the mirror and it fogged up. So I went to work.

I was born the same year that Baldwin delivered its last steam locomotive...I'm old enough to remember Baldwin sharks on the Bay Head line.

I, for one, love getting older, and we all know there is only one alternative...getting dead! Time will come when I'd rather get dead than get older, but I'm planning on decades of service life on this frame built in 1942. Having just retired, I'm excited to be spending "monopoly money" from now on! Who amongst us would trade for today's gang/drug/AIDS infested youth? I much prefer my never-lock-your-door-steam railroading youth, with my memories, any day.

I saw one 72, I think it was, and a lot of those who said they were old enough to know better, but just didn't give their age. Maybe, just maybe I'm the oldest at 78 - and married to the same woman for 51 years. Anyone out there want to top that?

just thought i might chime in, dont mean whore up your question to him. embarssing a middle aged guy and him wife in a C5 vette, and making him shut down early(me driving) in a 6700# 4wd Dmax was a blast!!

that's ok cause i'm going to whore it up even more. i didn't realize they were runnin THAT quick. impressive indeed.

the weekend after new years there's an indoor truck/tractor pull a few miles east of rantoul, IL and they had a limited super-stock diesel pick up truck class. all dodges with the come-apart turning, a very conservative guess, 6500+ rpm, twin turbos and all the goodies. the only downside to that particular set up is from what i've gathered they have to use a mainly stock drive train. gives me a chub just watchin it though. could only imagine driving... lol

Gee, am I the oldest one here, Believe there's qite a few
of you out there that don't want to admit your age.
I'm 72, happily married 50 years.
One sad thing about being this age is recalling watching
CN steam locomootives in Saint Laurent (suburb of
Montreal) pulling strings of 20 or so locos, with their driving
rods in their tenders heading to the graveyards somewhere.

I was born 3 months after the official end of steam in the UK.

But when I got to 25 I liked it so much I stayed there.

Does it matter? It's only a number, after all. Think as old as you feel, act as old as you feel you can get away with.

Yeah, I did that once, and it got pretty boring seeing stack trains and nothing else! Did this a few years back at the Knox Station Bed and Breakfast, near Knoxville, IL. Does anyone know if it's still open as a B & B?

And to answer the original question, 60 (jeez, that sounds old!!...LOL).
1st train ride was at 18 months old...and still riding the rails!

49. Grew up listening to trains traveling on the tracks south of U.S. 40 at Shortridge Rd in Indy. With my mom's family in DC, I was fortunate to have traveled by train from Indy to Union Station in the late 50's and early 60's.

Ohhh that is just my starter car. I plan to sell it after I am finished with it, and then buy a nice Mercedes E55 AMG Sedan, and tune it a little, and then beat the kids at their own game. On the outside I would only put new rims on it and tint the windows, of course the car will be black, the spokes will be black, as well as the window tinting. Maybe a Z06, that is one awesome car. Always been a fan of 'Vettes, especially a '65 Stingray, convertible, 4 speed, Red, and a white interior. Wait, the motor would have to be a 427!!!!! Can you say loud???
I might hang onto it though.
