Rightnow I have a worker that is doin about a fine a job as anyone but He doesn't speak english. I have to show him what I want him to do since I don't speak Spanish. I don't mind because I needed another challange to get me interested in my job again[xx(][xx(]
It's a blast to see the owner try to talk to the guy HE hired. The owner wants him to stay longer and He just says one of two phrases he knows. "I GO HOME NOW"

The other phrase is "I GO BATH ROOM"
But he is one heck of a worker though!! once he knows what to do.

The "ROCK" is the owner and the "HARD PLACE" are the laborers that make it work.
Just as you said Ed, the position can be used to make things more efficent, however there is no way that the crew can work with me. What helps is if they respect me. Something that is earned.
I earn it because I will work with them as much as I can. Even at that though sometimes they just can't understand why I disapear and leave them to "work" while I "just sit" in my office. Little do they know.

you said you saw yourself in my description of a trainmaster, but didnt say thats what you do for a living, so, if not a trainmaster, then what is it you do to keep the rent paid?
And before anyone thinks i dislike trainmasters, its the job that displeases me, it could, note could, be used in such a way as to make a railroad even more efficent, but instead, it seems to attract the guys who possess no people skills, and therefore fail to motivate the people who have to work under them. When i ran a few auto parts stores, I allway found it so much better to have a crew who works with you, as opposed to working for you.

OK well i'm back from a vacation.. thats why i havn't been on for a few days.. now lets see after re-reading this forum.. MN was only joking- ha. Well it's good to know you were joking.. i didn't like grinding you for that fact that you may not have been. that makes no sense.. but on from that.. there are some other less touchy topicsw that you can make jokes of.. so now she uses this aginst me.. she being a very open person.. ever tried arguing with a naked woman about 15 minutes worth of long distance charges? I have an observation about what you wrote.

As I read your post I saw myself in your description of a trainmaster. (not the pain in the BUT part)*smile* although there are some who I know think I am. Well, I am some times.

In my job I am the "buffer" between the owner and the crew.
I like my job (to a point)
However, I hate that I get to listen to the complaints not just from the crew but also from the owner. It's like a bloody stereo!
If there is a problem on either side I have to fix it.
If there is major trouble I have to investigate it and than correct it because the owner doesn't want to do the hard things i.e. reprimanding or worse.

I am the one that has to pu***he crew to get things done on time (I have no friends at work only aqaintenses) And I also have to object when the owner wants to do something that will disrupt the process. (which ticks him off but if I don't do it and things head south I have to endure his wrath for not saying anything)

There is a delicate balance that sometimes eludes me.

What I'd like to do is give everyone mickys and than do a but dance on their foreheads.

Why am I paid for being between a rock and a hard place? because I'm the only one who is willing to take on the challenge. (or stupid enough)

I know I'd like to be cut some slack.
