BNSF Question.
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 2, 2006 5:33 PM
I got an e-mail this morning stateing that BNSF is gona close the GAPS between sideings by installing Double Track on the Creston line which is between West Cullom all the way to Ashland,Nebraska. Can anyone from the BNSF conferrm this? This will be a first. Because there are currently 4 passing sideings on the Creston line from Plattsmouth to Ashland. The first sideing is at Plattsmouth to Oreapolis. The second is from East Cullom to West Cullom. The third is at Louisville. And the Fourth is at South Bend just on the West side of what use to be the Rock Island Main. Anyways,As I understand it. The BNSF just removed a MofW Track at the West Switch at West Oreapolis. Since that Track is now all but gone,My thinking is that the BNSF just might Double Track off from Main 2 at Oreapolis all the way to Ashland. I could be wrong too. Allan.

Ashland to Louisville is in the hands of the engineering consultants right now. The fieldwork was performed by survey crews in late November/ early December. (Mookie might have seen us if we got the job, but it wasn't to be.) If it is to go further east, we haven't been cut in yet. Would not be surprised if Plattsmouth to Ashland happens, but BNSF wisely takes-on projects in manageable bites instead of one huge gulp (witness the ATSF transcon).

Having worked for both western railroads, both do a good job on building capacity additions in their own way. Both methods have drawbacks and both are handicapped by folks in their own operating departments from doing even better jobs. The operating people can be a little too full of themselves sometimes.[V]

FINALLY!!! This will make them old heads angry now as they are getting just 15 hours at the hotel now with it single tracked to the west!. Woo hoo maybe we will open it up and really let it fly now.I know we have been turning and burning the pool and not only the Creston xboards but we pulled guys off the chicago xboards to cover this weekend as well.

I hope it starts up soon I know we have to compete now with the ICE for that coal traffic wink wink. so maybe this is why. Get them eastbound loads going faster so they are not 120 hours behind.

Yes we are on time but this is yesterdays train

Let me try try to figure out all this...are you saying the line will be double-tracked from Creston to Ashland, NE?

No! Grading is already done. They just haven't laid the Rails or the Ties yet. The BNSF is adding a new Track "exstending" the West Cullom siding (In Nebraska) as a Main Two all the way to Ashland. My guessing is the BNSF want's to run as many Eastbound Loads as they can. As for the Westbound Empty's. Most of the Empty's go up the Omaha line. The new Double Track should end this. Allan.
