I have heard names for the other three locomotive types listed, and, although some wheel arrangements have more than one name, I don't think I've heard even one for a 2-10-2. So that's my guess, too.

What type of locomotive was known as the Colorado type?

1. 2-10-4
2. 2-10-2
3. 4-10-2
4. 2-8-8-2
2-10-4 Also called a 'Texas'. Built by Baldwin in 1927-29 these were the most powerful locomotives of the Chicago Burlington & Quincy, sadly all 18 were scrapped in 1961.

A lantern.

(Though cabooses have had a couple hundred different nicknames, and some of these may have come fairly close to a cage of some sort.)

In rail road slang what is a 'birdcage'?

1. Where the head brakeman sits on a tender with a doghouse
2. A lantern
3. Copula on a caboose
4. Roundhouse
A brakeman's lantern

Yes, there are. I can't speak for NdeM, but I do know there's at least one leasing company operating one, and Pickens Railway, a shortline in SC, run 4 or 5. They bought them from CSX.

Go to Railpictures and search "u18b".

None of those. 118 is close, as it is the number produced minus the number exported to NdeM.

Matt

Edit: Okay. Now the answer is 118.

Railroad magnet?

Did he have an uncommonly strong attraction, was he bipolar, or did he just face north all the time?

I believe you may be asking about Sun Valley, Idaho.

P.S. "Magnate."

Time for an open question.
What famous ski resort was started by a railroad magnate and his Austrian friend, and who was the railroad magnate?
Sun Valley Idaho, discovered by Harriman himself.

Better folks.[;)]
