I just aquired an old Varney engin. It is quite uniuqe, as it is all cast metal, and the engin has a dual pulley drive system, with a chain/ spring belt. Doe's anyone know how old this might be?

You might get more responses by posting this on the model railroading part of the Forum.
I suspect your all metal Varney engine with the pulley drive is from the very early 1950s.
My old Varney engine fell apart -- the castings started to crumble. Good luck with yours
