.......to get the double track line open as quickly as possible, they simply pu***he rest of the hoppers out of the way, resulting in another 23 cars spilling their loads of corn, resulting in even more drunken bears:

I'm sure the Glacier folks really appreciated this action. What a PR blunder!

23 upright loaded hoppers simply bulldozed down the embankment - that's a nominal trainload in and of itself in the short fast train model.

Hey Boo Boo! Is that a pic-a-nic basket I see?

The Trains news article said that they planning on using a electronic fence and motion detectors at the fence breaks that emit a loud piercing sound to scare the bears off.

A couple of thoughts on that loud piercing noise...
I guess that playing Louie Louie when the motion detector got tripped was too inviting for the bears. Togga! Togga!
If a drunk bear in a forest hears a loud piercing sound in the forest... does he get scarred? Or, does he raise another toast and say that there playing our song again?

I've got an illegal tast pallate on...

....or like the punchline to the old joke: ".......okay, (huff, huff) now where's that (huff, huff, spit) old toothless crone you guys (huff, huff, spit) wanted me to wrestle?"

...and lets not forget. Some of the fermented corn spilled and some fermented corn is still in the cars. So I guess the bears can either get a draft or take from the can.

That was SOP on the Miwaukee. I had my brother and a friend of his visiting from Calif for a little hunting and I told him how to get to Pedee (between St Maries and Plummer Jct) where I knew they'd shoved a derailed car of wheat. It was only after they left that I remembered that it was in a state park. Ooops. Luckily they didn't see anything to shoot at.

Could you imagine if this derailment occurred in Tennessee instead of Montana? The problem would not be drunken grizzly bears but how to remove the newly constructed still at the derailment site without being shot.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

But 23 cars being shoved off a cliff to clear a line? The Milwaukee probably couldn't afford to junk that many cars at once.

Do the bears get to eat the corn if they are at least 21 years old?

Opening shot - a pair of park rangers are discussing the problem of bears eating grain from derailed grain trains

"Yeah, for some reason the number of these derailments have increased lately, and no one can figure out why"

"Yeah, it's a mystery alright"

Pan to cliff above railtracks. A group of bears are getting ready to push a boulder onto the tracks as the next train passes. A grain train pulls by. The bears get ready to pu***he boulder, but an older wiser grizzly waves them off and shakes his head "no". The other bears look at each other and shrug their shoulders.

A second train, a unit train full of Budweiser reefer cars approaches from the opposite direction. The older wiser grizzly grins and nods his head up and down.........

Of course, it would make more sense for the second entry to be a Budweiser beer truck on the adjacent highway (pan to frontal shot of driver in cab, rolling along, when we hear a rumbling sound of rocks rolling down the cliff and "wham", we see the trailer getting tossed out of the picture through the cab's back window, oblivious to the driver.....), but a unit train of beer cars would be pretty cool.

Reminds me of the time I saw where a bunch of dairy cows were fed some well seasoned corn silage. Ever see a cow with its head hanging low and its legs braced out so she won't fall over????? LOL!!!!

Should be real nice in that area come the spring wake up ever seen a bear with a HANGOVER that ought to be interesting. Spring is hard enough without dealing with bears with a headache.
Always at war with those that think OTR trucking is EASY.
