Word to the wise the mayor of New Orleans is a Republican and he is VERY PI$$ED off even the President is angry. The general in charge is litterly directing troops for a street corner. The Army Corp of Engineers has been saying for years that New Orleans was at risk. One reason why they kept the river flowing like they did what the port facilatys at NEw Orleans are some of the best in the world. Rebuilding those docks would cost around 15billion also rerouting the railroads to the new port is about another billion. The people who stayed behind are those who HAD NO WAY TO GET OUT OF THE CITY. In addition the hospitals were still full of critically ill people. Nurses are saying that it is to the point that do we use supplies on someone who probaly not make it or save them for someone who will make it.

I know I come across as a Bush Hater and I am one, BUT I have a Brother in the Air Force and 3 FRIENDS IN THE ARMY 2 OF WHICH ARE OVER IN IRAQ. My brother said in 2000 that if Bush won we are going to take out Hussien since in 91 he made his daddy look like a fool. Also Bushes inner circle knew that the LINE OF BS HE SOLD US ABOUT GOING TO WAR WAS NOT WORTH THE PAPER IT WAS WRITTEN ON.
Always at war with those that think OTR trucking is EASY.

As I understand it, losing New Orleans and surrounding refineries and pipelines directly affects the East and MidWest. The Rockies and West have independent refineries and pipelines so Katrina isn’t the cause of shortages and or price gouging in Portola.

The gas fill ups were in Reno, NV. Yes, I understand that here on the west coast our gasoline is confined to use in Nevada, Washington, Oregon, California, and Arizonia for the most part. But, in yesterdays Reno Gazzett Journal, the local fish wrapper, they stated that gas prices where being driven up by Katina and that some gas stocks were being moved to the southeast. It did not say how this west cost gas was moving, but I'd assume by ship. I see yesterday the commerce department suspend the rules for American Flaged ship only hauling between American ports.

BTW, didn't chase UP 3985, and although I didn't vote for GW Bush either time, I think at this time its purdent to consider the trips I make.

Maybe some couldn't get out, but I think the turds with the guns stayed for other reasons. As for the nurses deciding on the use of supplies, your brother and other friends can tell you all about triage and why it is done. Sad but efficent method of saving lives.

....Politics or no....The response time was terrible....The thousands of folks that didn't get out most had no way to get out....economically, no transportation, elderly, sick and so on.....Our priority just wasn't engaged fast enough to get the help coming....The suffering was terrible....The hospital ship leaving Va. won't be in the trouble zone until NEXT WEEK...! Almost no help came to the superdome....People died there....A terrible situation.

Don’t be coy. Tell us why they chose to stay. You admit some couldn’t get out, maybe. That implies the rest chose to stay. Explain that please.

I would think for a few reasons, some felt the storm wasn't going to be that bad, others may have wanted to not leave their possesions, the element I am referring to, the looters was hoping and waiting to see everyone leave, probably betting on any law enforcement to be pretty scarce also. This way they could raid drug stores for any narcotics, pharmacies are a virtual Walmart for dopers, they saw the chance coming to get all that cool electronics stuff, I am also going to bet the also didn't think it would be so bad that they got stranded, later I would imagine they felt they could grab a car and be on the way, also I don't remember where, but someone stated on some news network that this was also the looters, remember some weren't just men, there were kids and women also "STEALING" non-essential items required to survive, I guess I could allow a $100+ pair of Nikes so that all that walking they planned on their feet wouldn't hurt, but back to my point, someone stated this was the poormans chance to get what he deserves since they have been denied/held back from all the luxuries that those with money had. I wish i could remember the network/person that stated this outragous comment.

If you have been reading the thread, there is no "coy" to my statement, I have said many times as well as others why some of the "turds" wanted to stay. You should read the post that "edblysard" posted on the Mayor of New Orleans requests haste-People to write letters. topic; Link here > http://www.trains.com/community/forum/topic.asp?page=2&TOPIC_ID=44403

Surely you don't think every person in New Orleans is "stranded" because we left them. Or that all that stayed couldn't get out. That to me would be "coy"

Maybe we should all just get a couple of horses, and a buggy, and go back to
that kind of "horsepower". That way, we wouldn't need to pay their exhorbitant
prices for gasoline. Although, you'd have to have the extra expense for some-
one to behind the horses, to clean up after them (to satisy the environ-
mentalists).[:p][;)]

CW I agree with you on this one!! Then you wouldn't have to have insurance and you wouldn't see too many accidents happening on the road. That would be nice. Then you wouldn't have to worry about gas prices too much. Hay then maybe just maybe the prices will drop. Plus I can ride a horse really well. (English)

In the world of cars versus horses, if you don't maintain a car properly it may not run but probably can be repaired at a price. If you don't maintain a horse properly it dies, a total loss! My brother breeds and raises show horses and I have helped him many times with a sick horse, trust me you want a car!!

On another note the price of gas fell by ten cents here Friday.

And finally to all of those that have complained in this thread about everything done wrong, what have you done to help these people in need?

According to Fox News the UN has offered assistance. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,168322,00.html
As for the German official, every country has their idiots. Germany itself is one of a number of countries who have offered assistance. I was really surprised to see Cuba and Venezula offer assistance given the political differences. Its wonderful to see some nations who clearly are not in a position (i.e. Sri Lanka) to help others offering to assist where they can. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,168322,00.html

If you don't need to REALLY take that trip, don't
If you are going to idle at the bank drive up window for a while, shut her off
If you are typically going shopping for food three times a week, make it once
If you guy premium when regular will do, buy regular from now on
If your kids want to go to a friends house a half mile away, make them walk

Bottom line here, if we use less gas the oil companies will get the messagr really quick.
