The tinting also reduces the fading on the "Rich Corinthian Leather" and other fine furnishings inside the cab.[;)]

the windows are bullet resistant....not totaly bullet proof... small arms fire will be stopped by the glass... high powered rifles depending on the range... can penitrate the glass...(seen it done on an old window).. as far as the tinting...its supost to help keep the solor energy from the sun out..and keep the cabs somewhat cooler then non-tinted windows...same concept as tinted windows on office buildings...

They've tested bulletproof windows before but if a crew is trapped in an engine after a derailment they couldn't break the windows open.

Not to sound foolish, but dumb***people would still shoot at trainmen if the windows were tinted or not. Are they bulletproof or no? Also,I wouldn't tint the windows of my car because I don't care for it. I just have the standard factory tint and it's good enough...

Why would you tint the windows on your car?
Same reasons apply to locomotives.

People were shooting at the engineers and conductors and now new GE and EMD engines get tinted windows.

It's sad but true.

Why are the windows on the GE's so dark? I was told before that it had to do with the air conditioning. Can anybody elaborate?
