Conductor on our Utica train today.  A bit rusty, and a couple of procedures I wasn't up to speed on, but the day went fine.

Hopefully Sunday is a decent running day for the 12,000 runners in the Boilermaker  in Utica, NY.  Most of them will be running the 15K course, about half the number will be on the 5K course.

The finish line is at the brewery...

Today was pretty warm and muggy.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Spent the day shilling our railbikes (there was actually a fair amount of interest) at the Boilermaker Expo.  Serious runners will recognize the name - it's been going on for years and attracts many top runners.

Of course, the key attraction for some (many?) is the finish line - the FX Matt brewery (Utica Club, Saranac) and the free beer therein.

It was interesting seeing the cross section of folks picking up packets.  Today was mostly the locals.  Some are clearly going for the whole race (15K, I think), some just for the 5K, and some were obviously just taking part in the fun run...

I'm working the train Saturday or I'd get to see some of the out-of-towners.  I'll be home when they actually run the race...

The final indignity was a parking fee of $6 since my visit was longer than one hour.

After waiting to see the Dr. for 30 mins I bet.

15 minutes checking in with the new office staff.  Another 15 minutes for a couple of blood tests and 10 minutes waiting for the Doctor after the blood tests.

Treked to my Endocrinologist this morning (he moved his office to a major medical complex from is suburban private office).  This is the third 'new' doctors location I have had to find this year.  None of them have the buildings where the offices are located PROMINATELY identified with the buildings STREET ADDRESS.

This one was the worst!  There was absolutely NO identification of the building that one could see while driving.  Doctor had given me a written set of directions and noted a multi-level garage building and its name - with the medical offices attached to the garage.  Garage had Low Clerance signs for 6 feet 7 inches.  Now I know the cap on my truck is 6 feet 7 inches high - saw some light drag marks through the dirt on the highest part of the cap.  The final indignity was a parking fee of $6 since my visit was longer than one hour.

On the way home ran into a 'pop-up' storm - all 2 miles of it.  A near Florida Frog Drowner while it lasted - which wasn't very long at 60 MPH.  When I got home, about an hour later there was a lot of thunder for about 40 minutes, however, not a drop reached the ground at my house.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Colorado Springs was in the mid-50's this morning, per a report on the morning net.

We'll take a cool down - my weather station spent half the day chirping at me because the heat index was so high.

Warm and muggy here in Nw Ohio.Went over to Deshler early to help combat the swamp. On the way saw the I&O coming back south at Hamler. They had the 3 former Up Sd 60's I had seen before.Csx was playing catch up from yesterday.M 560 sat on the SE wye for a bit.Found out that I 157 had the "chessie" unit on the point.Took pictures of it as it came through North Baltimore.L 318 had an Sd 50 today for power.Just thinking that Chessie scheme would have looked better on that unit.Chores to do here.Keep cool.

I'm glad I went to Deshler when I did - they've been having some bit of weather ever since, and there's more coming east...

Bad day here Friday.  At 1500 a very strong storm hit us.  Rain in sheets and wind harder than my 2 adventures near cat 1-2 hurricane eyes.  Power out till 1830 .  Lots of sirens and several ambulances. Neighbor reported a partial survey seeing at least 7 homes with tree damages. Said he heard of others.

No homestead damage but down the street another story.  Yard clean up will be difficult having to use garden rake and pitchfork in small sections. Electric chain saw will be big help. Saws all with pruning blade also big help.  Have plenty batterys

Thunderstorms yesterday afternoon and evening look to have washed most of the Canadian smoke from the air and down onto the horizontal surfaces of my truck.  They have become dirty with a black component versus the yellow-green component from pollen that had previously left its evidence on everything - truck included.

We had it pretty bad for the last few days but yesterday was appreciably clearer, probably due to some nasty thunderstorms that passed just sout.

Wow, according to https://firesmoke.ca/forecasts/current/ you're getting about the worst of it right now.  Things have pretty much cleared here.

Back when it was a weather reporting program, not a reality show...

All the cable channels that originated in the 80's with a defined vision have morphed into accumulating noise on an every widening and expensive band width.

I am surprised that the 'reality' shows haven't been stopped by the Writers strike.

Proof positive that Bruce Springsteen was right:  57 channels and there's nothing on.
