Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Another train show in the books. For some reason, it wasn't well attended.
Picked up several cars, a semi tractor (cast pewter kit) and my usual package of "people." In this case, it's basketball players. Population on my layout will be over 600 when I eventually get them all planted...
Gonna sleep well tonight, too. For now, what's for supper?

morning
Some say retirement isn't for whimps?? Possible cause for fuel leak on I 166 was found.Seems parts of an engine from M 351 dropped in the guage at W Defiance.I 166 was following the M 351.When the crew of 351 got the engine to Lima they tried to set it off.It derailed on the yard lead switch.CSX put the DPU (LHF)in front of I 166 and it limped into North Baltimore.Went for our walk this morning.Csx had a green on track 1 Eb.The NDW has some cars to take to Napoleon.Going to watch the Football battle for Ohio today.
Day two of chaos over. Got to the train show and found I had to completely reformat the video presentation so it would run. Then two and a half slow hours (where are all the modelers and fans?) at the show before taking off for the funeral proceedings.
Service went well.
Now for some rest before heading to the train show again tomorrow morning. Of course, when it's over I have to pack up the kit and decide when I'm going to take it back to Utica.
Everyone else looks forward to weekends - that's when I'm busiest...
evening
Matt headed for Deshler before we left.Wanted to catch a WLE train in Lima but it was long gone by the time we got there.Did stop in and check the progress of the track planning. So far so good.Meanwhile on Csx I 166 had CN power up front and a csx dpu.(it's a Cp run through train). The plow hit something on a switch at west Defiance. It punctured the fuel tank.Crews were busy cleaning up the mess.Going to help get the groceries put away.
Four hour round trip to pick up the show kit. Two hours setting that up, now home printing off some handouts, which will be followed by a work detail to set up our banquet hall for tomorrow's funeral.
I'm bushed, the the weekend is just beginning...
Had some light drizzle after work today.Took care of the yardwork. The cottonwood tree in back is dropping leaves. The maples are just starting to turn a yello green.Time for supper.
Thunder Bumpers are rumbling through the area - so far nary a drop.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Ran errands in town. Was going to do yardwork but mother nature sent rain. Will work on it tomorrow.Glad tomorrow is Friday.Matt will be going to Deshler to plan track for the layout Saturday.Other chores to do.
Gave hugs after work.Tried to call a couple places for take out but was put on hold.Stopped at the store and got supper.Had to wait on a csx westbound. The NDW yard looks a little fuller.Going to check out my issue of Trains.
Losing way too many people here lately. One of our firefighters finally succumbed to multiple strokes a few weeks ago, a member of our sister department just passed, the mother of one of our members just passed (she was in the FD ladies auxiliary), and another of our firefighters passed this morning due to complications of COPD. Spending a lot of time in funeral homes...
Warm today.Ran errands after work.Tomorrow it's give hugs day.Chores to do.
Went for our walk this morning.Csx sent a few trains by.Checked on Brother.Ns sent some trains by as well. Two of them were parked between Waterloo and Butler Indiana.Everyone else was going around them westbound.Ns L96 was working SDI.Looked like they had another Ns engine in the back along with the regular switcher.Going to cool off.Back to work tomorrow.
Beautiful day in the Adirondacks. I even got to sit back and let a student handle one of our trips...
It's supposed to be nice for the next few days.
Small afternoon storms on Saturday and today. Helps cool things down for a brief while.
WW2 era C-47 "thats all folks" has been making low-level passes lumbering over the house in the mornings complete with WW2 paint and allied markings (stripes)...When you hear those old radial engines doing their thing, gotta investigate. (esp after seeing the TV video production on restoration of the thing and its relationship to D-Day)
High today was 98 - but no heat warning was issued. Humidity was 31% which did not make the heat index go to 105 or higher which is what the Heat Warnings are issued for.
Afternoon
Went for a walk this morning.Csx sent a couple trains by.Came home and washed our house and neighbors as well.Going to stay in the AC this afternoon. Will check on brother tomorrow.
Been helping neighbor out.Plenty of hugs.Matt went over to Deshler to trim yesterday.Going to go see what Csx can run for a bit today.
mudchickenNarrow gage "Thomas" has just arrived at CRRM at Golden CO (on a truck, oh the shame of it!) from Durango.
Our standard gauge "Thomas" arrived by truck as well. Considering it's no more than a shove platform...
Keep your grease gun handy, you'll need it.
And a cushioned stool, as "Thomas" is not sprung at all...
I think we did 48 trips over two weekends. I was in Thomas for all of them.
Narrow gage "Thomas" has just arrived at CRRM at Golden CO (on a truck, oh the shame of it!) from Durango. The events start in eight days and this year's DOWT is sold out...Stocking up on extra patience and hoping the heat stays below 80 degrees.
One last weekend of sanity before Sir Toppen Hat's wrecking crew arrive.
BaltACDMaryland State Fair has changed from a week long afair bookended by weekends, to a three weekend afair. Friday - Saturday - Sunday for three weekends.
NYS State Fair runs 13 days - from the Wednesday before the Wednesday before Labor Day (you read that right) through Labor Day.
Friday was an open shift for our display, which was a good thing, as I have no desire to be there on the weekend, when it get's really nuts. Heck, I haven't even wandered out onto the "Midway." Might do so tomorrow, if only to grab some supper.
tree68We had +45°F this morning, but nice and sunny all day. Supposed to be a hot one this weekend. Going back to the State Fair Friday to man the railroad's display. It's in a former D&RGW office car (102) on the state fairgrounds. I probably answer more questions about the car than I do our railroad...

Watching the Deshler cam.Maintainers are busy working on track 1.Got reports of the NS computer system crashing.Took care of chores and yardwork outside.Had to cut back some weeds at my neighbors becuse the other one doesn't take care of their yard.Back to work with training at my new job tomorrow.
Had a good couple of days on the railroad. No problems with the wine & beer train on Friday night, and aside from some unexpected switching (changed order of the cars in the train) the locals in Thendara went well.
Relaxing a bit today, but the lawn looks like it needs some attention (plenty of rain lately), so the lawnmower may beckon later.
Finished the benchwork for the layout yesterday.Matt is going to work on the tower model.Looked in town. The NDW is kinda empty.Still plenty of cars for scrap in the yard at Defiance. Csx has changed some trains and routes as well.Going to do stuff here at home.
