Narrow gage "Thomas" has just arrived at CRRM at Golden CO (on a truck, oh the shame of it!) from Durango.

Our standard gauge "Thomas" arrived by truck as well.  Considering it's no more than a shove platform...

Keep your grease gun handy, you'll need it.

And a cushioned stool, as "Thomas" is not sprung at all...

I think we did 48 trips over two weekends.  I was in Thomas for all of them.

High today was 98 - but no heat warning was issued.  Humidity was 31% which did not make the heat index go to 105 or higher which is what the Heat Warnings are issued for.

Small afternoon storms on Saturday and today. Helps cool things down for a brief while.

WW2 era C-47 "thats all folks" has been making low-level passes lumbering over the house in the mornings complete with WW2 paint and allied markings (stripes)...When you hear those old radial engines doing their thing, gotta investigate. (esp after seeing the TV video production on restoration of the thing and its relationship to D-Day)

Mudchicken Nothing is worth taking the risk of losing a life over. Come home tonight in the same condition that you left home this morning in. Safety begins with ME.... cinscocom-west

Beautiful day in the Adirondacks.  I even got to sit back and let a student handle one of our trips...

It's supposed to be nice for the next few days.

Losing way too many people here lately.  One of our firefighters finally succumbed to multiple strokes a few weeks ago, a member of our sister department just passed, the mother of one of our members just passed (she was in the FD ladies auxiliary), and another of our firefighters passed this morning due to complications of COPD.  Spending a lot of time in funeral homes...

Four hour round trip to pick up the show kit.  Two hours setting that up, now home printing off some handouts, which will be followed by a work detail to set up our banquet hall for tomorrow's funeral.

I'm bushed, the the weekend is just beginning...

Day two of chaos over.  Got to the train show and found I had to completely reformat the video presentation so it would run.  Then two and a half slow hours (where are all the modelers and fans?) at the show before taking off for the funeral proceedings.

Service went well.

Now for some rest before heading to the train show again tomorrow morning.  Of course, when it's over I have to pack up the kit and decide when I'm going to take it back to Utica.

Everyone else looks forward to weekends - that's when I'm busiest...

morning

Some say retirement isn't for whimps?? Possible cause for fuel leak on I 166 was found.Seems parts of an engine from M 351 dropped in the guage at W Defiance.I 166 was following the M 351.When the crew of 351 got the engine to Lima they tried to set it off.It derailed on the yard lead switch.CSX put the DPU (LHF)in front of I 166 and it limped into North Baltimore.Went for our walk this morning.Csx had a green on track 1 Eb.The NDW has some cars to take to Napoleon.Going to watch the Football battle for Ohio today.

Another train show in the books.  For some reason, it wasn't well attended.

Picked up several cars, a semi tractor (cast pewter kit) and my usual package of "people."  In this case, it's basketball players.  Population on my layout will be over 600 when I eventually get them all planted...

Gonna sleep well tonight, too.  For now, what's for supper?

Decent day on the railroad.  Small crowd - we only used one car for both trips, but I'm sure they enjoyed their ride.

Colors are changing in the Adirondacks, although at this moment they seem rather muted.  We'll see if they brighten up.

The Utica train had a good crowd, including a bus group.  Those are usually one way, boarding their bus and not riding the train back.

Was coming home this afternoon and got stopped by a passing CSX coal train headed to Baltimore.

The coal looked like something between black dirt and black sand.  Noticed the light weight of all the cars were less than 50K pounds, so I suspect all the hoppers were aluminum as most steel hoppers I have seen have a light weight in the 60K pound range.

We're off to see our very first Iowa Hawkeye game in person today, as our granddaughter has been named Kid Captain for today's game against Western Michigan.  As Kid Captain, she gets to lead the team onto the field at the start of the game and also lead The Wave at the end of the first quarter.  We are stoked!  We are also invited to a special tailgate party prior to the game, where we'll hopefully get to meet some of our favorite Iowa celebs (maybe Caitlin Clark?).

Sorry, but my niece graduated from Kalamazoo so you know where my loyalties lie in this game.  Go Broncos.  As an aside, I graduated from Northern Illinois so I will root for MAC teams over the Big Ten except Northwestern and Illinois (three of my brothers went to those schools.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
