I see that Phil saw his shadow today. While it was snowing. The news clip I saw looked like most of the light was from the TV equipment. Maybe if they didn't have all the lights on the proceedings, Phil may not have seen his shadow.
I guess that's what we get for letting an oversized rodent who's afraid of his own shadow predict the weather.

afternoon

It was the fire alarm system that alerted the fire department for a fire at one of our local school district bus garages several years ago.
There wasn't a lot of damage - but there was a lot of smoke, so much so that all of the busses were condemned, leaving the district to rent buses until they could replace them with new.

Anyone know why News wire has some posts that do not allow comments?. Monday's for example has none for the mask post.
BaltACDWatching my home area on Maryland traffic cameras - so far it looks like little more than a dusting.
A fellow ham in NYC (Brooklyn) reported 8" Monday morning. I'm sure the bread and milk shelves are empty. Reports tonight say 18" so far in Central Park...
tree68Looking like our southern tier is going to see the worst of the storm. We're due for maybe 3" by Wednesday. I've got plenty of gas for the snowblower, and there's a convenience store just down the street...

Got $200 in Home Depot gift certificates for my retirement - they are earmarked for a snow blower - for when I can't Snowbird in Florida.

blue streak 1Received my first Pfizer Friday.
Got my second Moderna this past Thursday - no ill effects so far. Reactions have varied amongst my friends and acquaintances, but none have been serious.
I got mine as an EMS provider. Clinics are starting to open up for the general public now.
Received my first Pfizer Friday. Just by pure luck. Acquaintenance told me Wedensday about site having shots. Went to site but nothing. Accidently went back to site. It had one appointment available. Wife was doing a medical proceure so I had to take it. No adverse effects. Other flu shots have had more soreness than this one.
A rare Sunday home for me, truck is at the local Freightliner dealer for an electrical issue that stymied our shop in Green Bay for about a day Friday. Hoping to get it back Tuesday, but we shall see.........
Seeing that I'm home, got to play with our snowblower twice clearing the six to seven inches of snow that fell, we have piles over four feet tall in spots. Chili is also simmering away in the slow cooker, should be ready tonight..........
Morning
Snow is here.About 4 inches so far.Cleaned up the driveway after the snowplow guy came by.Matt said he brushed off his car but they haven't plowed the student parking lots yet.Csx is busy looking for crews today.Might get some lake effect tonight from Lake Erie.
Went to Deshler to take some things to the museum.Carl Csx had a train for you today Q 560.Plenty of stuff on there plus brand new tank cars.Went to come home and helped a guy out of gas.Was rewarded with some csx traffic eastbound and sunshine.Stacey said people at the store were preparing for "snowmageddon".Not planning on going anywhere until Monday morning.
Pat and I are currently on a waiting list to be notified when we can try to set up an appointment to arm-wretle over the doses that might be available.Joe, how I wish I could see a good version of one of "my" trains. We're going to get out and run errands in an hour or so, hoping to beat the storm. We have to go to the post office (near the tracks), then the office supply store and grocery store. Maybe we should fill the top half of the gas tank, regardless of what will certainly be an inflated cost (we have gone 3.5 weeks without getting gas!). I just heard about eight to ten inches in tonight's storm.

Currently waiting for another 8+ inches to fall mostly over tonight and early tomorrow. Biggest problem looks like it's going to be where to put the stuff when the walks are cleared.

The shift in the force that the Kalmbach/ Trains mothership experienced in cheese-picker nation yesterday was me having a polite chat with 200+ surveyors and wanna-be mudchickens for 6+ hours. Fine time had by all.

Joe: Wonder if the NIMBY's bought a place downwind of a cattle feed-lot, pig or chicken feeder production facility and does not understand the smell of Ag $$$$$ ?
Ns sent a westbound empty coal train with Bnsf power after work.Going to look for an article.Just thinking a government(French) has to pass a law so cows and chickens can do what they do in the country because of some Nimby that moved out of the city. They wouldn't last 5 minutes over in our area.
Got shot #2 today. Some friends are reporting reactions to it - so far, nothing. That statement may come back to bite me...
Bitter cold due in for the next couple of nights - -20F and significant wind chills.
It'll be a good night to stay home...
Ns sent a westbound Carl special after work.Did some errands here as well. The ND&W yard was pretty empty. The Csx yard just had the caboose. The yard lead had some Mow eqiupment. There were also work zone boards near the crossing as well.Glad tomorrow is Friday.
Ns was clear after work. The brush cutter was back working along the siding track going into our warehouse tracks.Going to be clear but cold next couple days.More stuff this weekend.I have sent out plenty out of the warehouse and have seen plenty of names. My thought after today was couldn't they just name that poor soul "Sue"? Chores to do
Wake-up call this morning was my fire pager, for a working fire in a small house. We got a good knock on it - the house is still standing. But I suspect there was some interior damage as fire got into some enclosed spaces, necessitating opening up some walls and ceilings. And a vent hole in the roof.
We had about the same tale as Paul, with probably close to the same snow totals. A neighborhood gentleman offered to shovel our driveway for us, and we gladly paid him to do it (this cancer/COVID business has weakened me quite a bit). But we're hoping to be out and about again today, for the first day in several. I really want to see a couple of trains now! I finished my last report to my fellow carchaeologists on Monday, and have five renumbering tables to work on for the next one (anywhere from 300 to near 900 cars in each table, anywhere from one to six prior numbers per car). It would help if the numbers had been changed in any reognizable order, but nooooo....
We got about 8 inches of snow over Monday night and all day Tuesday. Finally got to it yesterday evening after work with our new snowthrower. A cold snap is also expected over the next few days.
Ns sent a tanker train east and a stack train west after work.Seems Ns has a mess in Virginia and they are talking about possible reroutes in our area.Hovering around the freezing mark all day. Some had their ditch finders on this morning.Mc the mail came through today thank you.Time to get some chores done.

Complelety different from our world of PSR. They eliminated just about every RCO job.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.

RCO oops reported by television side of local media.
Snizzle starting to fall... supposed to go to Breckenridge in the morning. Hmmm. Big storm gonna bypass us? Ski hills are getting concerned.
zugmann BaltACD Further pictures seem to tell the tale - looks like a RCO shoving cars at too high of a speed into a track that was secured - speed isn't a killer, sudden stops are. Could be several causes. (And may not have even been a RCO job).
