Looking forward to the spring edition of the Chatterbox.

The funeral for firefighter Peyton Morse was held today.  Several hundred firefighters braved breezy sub 20 degree temperatures for the march to the church where the service was held.  At least the sun was out.

Don't know how many apparatus were in the procession from the church to the cemetary.  We were among the lead units, so my view was in the rear view mirror.  Probably 50 or more from across the state.  The FDNY pipe band was in attendance as well.

An unfortunate loss.

We got about an inch at most last night and that may be about it depending on where you live.  Temps will stay with highs in the 40's during the week with more warming on the weekend Thumbs Up

Murphy: Apparently this is the "X" storm of the 2020-2021 winter, so it's Xylia (who?) ... It was late, but did deliver 22" of heavy, wet snow. Monday brought 50 degree temps, so a healthy part of the dump melted off.

The locals just seem content to call it the March 2021 snowstorm/blizzard. We see a little light snow tonight. The back and shoulder muscles get a break.

The remains of a young firefighter who died in a training incident were brought back to the north country today.  The calling hours are Thursday, the funeral Friday.

The escort procession went from Binghampton to Watertown - about 150 miles.

Every single overpass (save two) on the entire route was occupied by firefighters from that area.  Syracuse city FD covered every overpass in that city and the Syracuse Airport FD brought out several crash trucks.

We had firefighters (and apparatus) from four fire departments and two EMS squads at our location.

We're supposed to get some residue from the blizzard tomorrow night and into Monday (which, of course, coincides with an ultrasound appointment for me).

Monday's the ultrasound; Tuesday is a scan to determine whether I need more radiation--or in fact can even have it.  My PSA is down, but pains in my lower back have been increasing.

MC, if it lives up to the hype out by you, maybe we should call it Ed.

The newsworkers have called it a bizzard (no wind?) and a blockbuster (those all closed?)Huh?

Maybe it should be a blizzard - without wind and a BLOWZZARD with wind.

Snowmageddon-21 mania has hit Denver. Due to arrive Friday-Saturday with snow totals estimated currently between 24 and 40 inches, depending on the upslope conditions. Warnings of five feet of snow (60") for the mountains west of here. CDOT already telling people to stay home.

Real thing or a bust?

Supermarkets should be a zoo before it hits.

Have they named it yet? You know, those named storms are always some much more newsworthy.Mischief

They are calling it "Late" (as in 12-18 hours)

Sad news up our way.  Yesterday, an 86YO former fire instructor and fire chief - who trained a good many of the firefighters in the county, including myself - was killed in an collision.  Reports are that he drove through a red light.

Today a young firefighter who was injured in a training incident at the state fire academy passed away.  The circumstances of the incident are being investigated.

I suspect I'll be spending a fair amount of time in my "Class A" uniform this week.

This and previous accumulations of snow will be great for the Colorado River as the spring and summer melting will allow the depleted Lake Mead and Glen Canyon storage to replenish. Also those who rely on the eastern runoff will also beging filling their storage. Water is a precious commodity in the west.

Real thing or a bust?

Most of our "winter storms" here have been a bust - no where near the forecast amounts.  But there's still plenty of snow on the Tug for the snowmobilers - and one met his demise yesterday morning.  There have been a lot of collisions this year, many with trees.

I still have several inches of snow in my yard, as well as my neighbor's yards.  That should disappear soon, with temperatures for the rest of the week approaching 60.

What we really need is warm days and cold (sub-freezing) nights, as that gets the maple trees revved up to produce sap.  Gotta have my maple syrup!

Yes, It does seem SPRINGLIKE today. High in the upper 60's, bright sunshine. Having had both shots of the Pfizer vaccine over two weeks ago, went grocery shopping (masked) and it felt liberating. No Instacart. Weather prognostigators say enjoy it cause its not going to last.

Finally, some spring like weather!  After a week of below average (and some below zero) temperatures we got to about +47F today and it's looking up for tomorrow.

Spring is in sight!

As we come up on the time change (Spring Forward!) remember to pick up batteries for your smoke detectors, as needed, or better yet, replace those annual battery changes with one of the new ten year detectors.  Wouldn't hurt to do so for your CO detectors, too, as needed.
