Fired up the lawnmower and gave the grass it's first cutting of the year.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!

No need for that here, yet. Temperatures did make it into the mid-sixties today, though. No complaints here...

This poster needs to eat humble pie. Some how my entire e mail addresses got hacked and a bulk e mail was sent to every one on that list. It was asking for a gift card to be sent to me by US mail. A mistake since that will be considered mail fraud that has already been reported. So if any get that e mail and can identify the IP number let me or the post office know !
good evening
Rainy this morning then the wind turned out of the north. Now it is starting to come back from the southwest.More rain for tomorrow.Watched a 3 way meet on the Deshler cam this morning.Started working on a project.Matt wants his birthday party in Deshler.so I have been going through the cds and flashdrives.I think the cd player in the computer went bad.Going to have it checked out.Hope everyone has a happy Easter.

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
BS1 - If you've reported it, there probably won't be a problem. I'm betting someone is watching your mailbox so they can swoop in and get the cards, if any are sent to you...
Kicked off the new railroad season in reasonable manner - pretty good crowds for the Friday Easter trains. The threat of rain on Saturday might have hurt the attendance, but I wasn't working, so I don't know...
Headed to daughter's for Easter - more time with the grandkids. Granddaughter is turning into a regular chatterbox.
We had a relatively uneventful trip to Michigan yesterday, and home this afternoon. While we were up there early this afternoon, we had a little party, celebrating my mother's 95th birthday. My two sisters and I were there with our spouses, five of the eight grandchildren made it (three with spouses), and seven of the ten great-grandchildren were there (no spouses yet, thankfully!). Some of my cousins, and some of my mother's cousins, also showed up.

Carl, just saw a new log car, HKCX 160036. Hope this helps.
Well, it helped hone my sleuthing skills, because reporting marks HKCX do not exist in Umler. However, we do have some log cars in HKRX (PNC Equipment Finance) series 160001-160075, built in 2017 and 2018 by the Ebenezer Freight Car Company. Was the car you saw green, about 70 feet long?
It was. Thanks, and my apologies for the incorrect reporting mark. I need to remember that I'm not as good as I think about reading things off fast-moving cars, because I think this is the second time I've sent you bad info.
Hopefully the info's useful, though. Not sure how often those cars get to Chicago.
NorthWest ...I need to remember that I'm not as good as I think about reading things off fast-moving cars...
Does that mean your reading is only half fast?
That's a joke, son. You're supposed to laugh!

I have said for years about my racing - My son if fast; I am only half fast.
afternoon
Ns sent an eastbound when I got off work.We took Matt's(maybe) car to get looked over.Csx sent a westbound oil train. We also saw 4 of the 5 ND&W units in Defiance as well.Nice swamp drying day.Could get the mower back out tomorrow if all goes well.
evening
Mowed the swamp today.Ns had an eastbound waiting when I got off work.Checked out the car.Needs a couple things but nothing major.Just need to do all the paperwork now.Going to get cleaned up.
About to beat brains in again. Last nightmare was doing FtDDM&S at Gowrie and now being shown RIS at Alexis, IL (tree might know a little about that burg)....No maps and no repository of corporate records that matter.
Balt might laugh at what now resides in the driveway as a local runaround used truck for local errands. (A real sheep in wolf's clothing with a wing and a hemi)...Like Joe I'm tring to get it back to a working condition that I'm OK with. - little bites if you can Joe.

Can't say as I do - never got over into that neck of the woods.
Except that's where Alexis fire apparatus comes from. First time I saw an Alexis fire truck was in Davenport, IA. At the time, I thought they'd named the truck after someone's daughter. Got that figured out in short order.

Ns had some cars uptown to move around when I got off work. Not a bad day to work more outside.Found out we need to send hugs to a former neighbors family. She would be proud of how Matt has grown. She would be "Miffed" about some of the other happenings going on.More chores to do inside.
Ns was clear after work.Ran errands with Matt.Friend called and needed help to cover his roof.Needs to find the leak.On the way home we normally watch for deer.Instead there was a llama in the road.Hopefully it got back in it's pen.Tomorrow is Friday even with more rain.
EMS class tonight (done), EMS class all day tomorrow, then railroad rules class on Saturday.
CPR Sunday AM, local public TV auction in the evening (running camera).
So much for resting on weekends...
Today was a day for working on fresh sightings, doing some yard work, getting Pat to the gastrointerologist (he was very reassuring to her), and now I'm ready for bedtime.Yesterday, though, we took a trip to Milwaukee, to finally get to the exhibit Pat wanted to see at the quilt museum in Cedarburg (it comes down this weekend). Interstate 94 in Wisconsin was a disaster--so much so that we took a more scenic route home, via Burlington, Antioch, etc. (I was hoping for some action on the CN, but nada). I would have loved to drop in unannounced at Kalmbach, or watch trains at Duplainville, but those locations have not yet stamped themselves on my mental map (and we did not have the other kind with us). I didn't mind the fiber-art show (it wasn't all quilts, due to subject matter), and even used my charge card to renew our membership in the museum. But for me, the high point of the trip was a quick detour to Bryn Mawr, west of O'Hare, where there were three trains in view (two CP manifests, one UP coal train). The manifests were reasonably ripe for the picking...I got two fresh reporting marks from them (two renumbering tables needed, and two files for the two new companies). interestingly, both had the same source for their cars--the covered hoppers once operated by the Saskatchewan Grain Car Corporation. One of the trains had several new (2/19 for the one I could read the date on) TILX tank cars. As it turns out, I needed a bunch of TILX series that were not yet on the record, so this 125-car series turned into over 600 new cars for the New-Builds Table. Unfortunately, I then found one 600-car series that had been listed in two places...so that, as they say, takes care of that!Joe, looking down the road, are you going to be around home the first Sunday (or Monday) in August? The C&O Historical Society Convention is in Cincinnati this year (it's the C&OHS' 50th Anniversary, and I've been a member since Year One), and I thought we'd take a less direct route home, if possible. Or, perhaps, is The Shovel still doable in Marion?
We could come to Cincinnati.Hamilton is a good spot. There is a pub in Glendale as well. The shovel has been closed for some time now in Marion. The owners forgot to pay the taxes.I think the 2nd weekend is Summerrail in Marion as well.
Stay safe
We know that pub in Glendale. Saturday for lunch might work...Saturday evening is filled with conference activities.Sorry to hear about The Shovel. Apparently it didn't dig deep enough.
The pub in Glendale has been struggling to stay open and keep the same owner. Check first if you go that route. (about 3.5 miles east from where Electroliner and I grew up, we could hear the B&O/CSXlocomotive whistles).... Meritage or Cock&Bull these days IIRC, no longer Rail House or Iron Horse Inn (what I remember). ... Can't go wrong with Grand Finale, but it's not near the tracks.
You can hear the 567s , 645s and 710s throb (in towboats on the Ohio River with the ex PRR main out to Undercliff (Now Cincinnati & Eastern) close by at Montgomery Ribs boathouse.
Ns sent a Carl special westbound after work.MC Glendale is nice but not quite the same without the CPL's.Was thinking maybe sneaking across into Kentucky and looking at the new platform along the Ns main.I wonder if CUT still has tower A still open for trainwatchers too.Since work didn't ask us to work Matt wants to go a show in Montpelier on Sunday.Hopefully don't have to worry about white stuff.
Me-thins Tower "A" is still under heavy restoration as CRRC's meetings are all up at Winton Place/Elmwood Place. Don't know the story on KY.(know CUT had issues with leaking roof and 1930's plumbing, even after the 89 and 94 fix-em ups.)
Being threatened with rain/snow on Tuesday.
Staying away from eastbound lumber trucks on the west side of town coming off the mountain. Used to seeing semis with overheated or on-fire brakes , but not what happened yesterday.Plotting a new route to CRRM-Richardson Library on Saturday.
MC, if you happen to run into Paul Hammond, tell him I said "hi" and good luck at his new position. I knew him when was active at OERM and worked on a few track projects with him. You can also ask him abou the "riff-raff" T shirts.
- Erik
Part of the metro area is supposed to get a few inches of SNOW today, how much depends on where you live. My granddaughter is going to her senior prom tonight, hope that the weather isn't too rotten.
Erik - Will happen eventually, but we don't expect to see Paul until well into the summer. The formal swap happens sometime in August after Don T & Paul H have had a chance to ease-in the turnover and the responsibilities unique to CRRM. As part of the weekend tribe, largely confined to the stacks and backrooms of the library, I'll probably be among the last to encounter him as he gets moved over here and settled-in.
Paul, our lovely green lawn has already turned white. We went out before breakfast to get some hunker-down supplies (and Diet Dew was on sale!).I remember the pub in Glendale as the Cock & Bull (or something along those lines).I also remember Winston Place as the spot to watch trains in the Cincinnati area (at least for my kind of train-watching). What I'd like to do is sneak back to our favorite hotel, right by the C&O bridge in Covington, and just look out of one of the windows on the end of the hallways, getting those cars at eye level. If the weather were ideal, the parking garage would work, too.
