tree68Speaking of the Captain - how many know that the theme for his show was actually about a train? I give you "Puffing Billy": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csorirBIWgw
speaking of Puffing Billy, the train itself co-stars with the Seekers in this:

Superb information. Great post!
"Harvest Train" by the former Tamarack, a Canadian folk group (usually a trio) - "Canadian Routes Music" was their tagline. Song dates to somewhere between 1990 - 1994, I think.
Full version by the songwriter, James Gordon:

Excerpt from a better version with the vocals by Gwen Swick:

From my March 30, 2009 post to a similar thread, What's Youre Favorite Railroad/Train Related Song?, at: http://cs.trains.com/trn/f/111/t/151023.aspx
"Harvest Train" by the Canadian - Celtic folk "routes" music trio Tamarack, on their "Fields of Rock and Snow" CD from 1993 (?). Also "Home to You Once More", same CD. Bass player Gwen Swick's voice is so strong in the first, and mellow in the 2nd. Sadly, it's hard to find commercially now. Both were re-recorded on James Gordon's CD "Mining for Gold: Twenty Years of Song Writing" (Borealis, 2000).
A review comment from the website, which apparently was written by Donna Scanlon and published in "Rambles", (a cultural arts magazine):

"Harvest Train" and "Home to You Once More" both tell about the trains that carried men from eastern Canada out west for jobs harvesting grain. "Harvest Train" conveys the mournful sound of the train whistle and the rhythm of the train wheels rolling on the tracks. "Home to You Once More" has a brighter sound underscored with pennywhistle and punctuated with a tambourine as the narrator looks forward to going home again. Again, you can hear the train rhythm underlying the song.
I'll see if I can find the lyrics, and links to sound clips, and post a few to give you a taste of how good these are.
Also, to City of New Orleans, Canadian Railroad Trilogy, and Orange Blossom Special, as listed above by others.

P.S. - Well, lookee at what I found - an article "Celebrating the CPR with Music" by Tim Rogers (date and source not stated) at:
http://www.irontrail.ca/pdfs/CPR.pdf
The article itself is only 2 pages - but the references and list of songs take this file to 10 pages.
It appears that there are a total of 107 songs about the CPR !

How about Ten Years After's "Choo Choo Mama"?
Arlo's voice sounds like a cat that's about to throw up. I much prefer Goodman.
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any

I don't think anyone's linked this one yet, from the 80's with a certain Scottish hottie who apparantly had no problem getting a cab ride!
No suprise, if you looked as good as she did! And they couldn't have made a better railfan video if they tried! Check it out...

No one has mentioned Neil Young’s “Southern Pacific”! That’s a great train song, probably my all time favorite train song! If you haven’t heard it look here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=jb72f122Yoc
Of course the greatest singer of train songs ever was Johnny Cash, and I see he has not been missed in this thread!
I see we’re reviving a two year old thread, but whatever, it’s a good topic!

IIRC when a Canadian politician gets too old, they get appointed to the Senate...??
yep.
Firelock76 I know what you mean about politicians Miningman. During Mr. Trumps last "State Of The Union" address when the news cameras panned over both houses of Congress assembled I could have sworn I was looking at a nursing home gathering! Geez, give it a rest and go home people! Give someone else a shot! I suppose it's the same up in Canada.
