Mission to recover truck was successful, albeit with delays.

Took over an hour for taxi to arrive at car rental.  During the wait, I discovered I could have dropped the car at the rental place that was out of cars when I contacted them, and was only a few miles from the garage where the truck was.

Tried to pay the bill with my debit card, after ensuring there was more than enough to cover it in the account.  Turns out there's a cap on such cards, which required a call to the bank to raise it.  Good thing it's a small town branch and they know me...

Then on the way home, I drove through about 15 miles of lake effect, which lived up to it's billing.  No snow before, heavy snow during, no snow after...

Now it's time to get everything ready for Super Science Saturday at the local community college.  The amateur radio club will be showing off what we do...

BURP?

Wikipedia

The Buffalo, Rochester and Pittsburgh Railway (reporting mark BR&P)[1] was one of the more than ten thousand railroad companies founded in North America. It lasted much longer than most, serving communities from the shore of Lake Ontario to the center of western Pennsylvania.

One of the minor ironies of its existence is its having never actually reached Pittsburgh.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

Off to daughter's house this afternoon for granddaughter's 2nd birthday party.  It's snowing, but it doesn't appear to be lake effect, so it shouldn't interfere with the trip.  We'll be watching the Super Bowl, too, but that's secondary.  No dog in that fight.

Speaking of Lake Effect, Redfield (a little less than an hour south of me, and the birthplace of my mother, literally), has gotten six feet of snow in the past week.

They're asking the snowmobilers to stay away, at least with their vehicles and trailers, as they are running out of places to put the snow - many parking lots are non-existant.  Parking along the roads is a non-starter...

Super Bowl Day (Sunday started off with a bang at 0400 this morning.. Her favorite train handler came through ( WhamdeBamBam),westbound. Since it got started there have been a half dozen Eastbound CoFC's and ToFC's, 'bout 1300 a Westbound mixed COFC and TOFC rolled through at track speed ( or about it). That West switch has got to be a high speed turnout(?).  I guess they were rushing to get some rest, and see The Game today?  Everyone, enjoy the game, and be safe!

Don't you mean non-stopper?

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Sumpin' like that.

Park along the road and you may find yourself:  A.  Towed,  B: Plowed into the ditch, or C: Hoping that big snowblower didn't distribute the remains of  your truck and trailer over a 100 square yard area...

Hit a lot of snow coming home from Syracuse - not sure how much more Redfield was getting.

After the "warning" posted on the Sandhouse thread, I thought I'd better come over here for this one:

I got the best news of all today: at my weekly checkup I found out that my PSA was 0.1. My radiation oncologist says that anything less than that is considered "undetectable". Then this evening, the urology nurse woke me up from a nap with the report directly from my surgeon: the PSA is "undetectable"! So the combination of radiation and hormone therapy has done its stuff, already!

Nonetheless, I will complete this course of radiation (three weeks to go), and get my hormone shots every six months for the next two years. Another PSA test will follow the radiation, and probably be taken and read in late March. Do they say "remission" at that point? I'm not sure.

The other report concerns a trip we took yesterday.  Yesterday in Chicagoland was somewhat balmy (near 50), and a rare sunny start to the day.  So after my radiation we took a trip to Indiana again:  to lunch in Gary, a fabric store in Michigan City, and train-hunting in many places.  My radiation-induced digestive issues were nicely satisfied by the chicken pot-pie I had for lunch, and we got good information off freight cars seen at the restaurant site, Pine Junction, Michigan City, Dolton, and Blue Island.  I was able to fill up ten pages of my scratch-pad with notes, including a new reporting mark for me, as well as new build dates and lot numbers for cars that had been previously seen and informaton on new operators for cars, that will be included both in my notes and my report to my fellow freight-car freaks.  This was probably my most successful trip out in months.

That's WONDERFUL news, Carl!! May that problem indeed be licked.

We had rain this morning, but none this afternoon, so I (and my walker) went out Brookdale's (that's the name of the place where I live) front door, and around the corner to the place where I bought my current hearing aids, and had then tuned so they amplify sound better. We are provided with necessary medical transportation two days a week, one weekly shopping trip to a general (no axes, cowfeed, fertilizer, or building supplies, though) store, tours of the city and the surrounding area.

Our daytime temperature has been about fifty for two or three days--but winter is coming back. Somehow, Salt Lake City was much warmer than both Ogden (north of us) and Provo (south of us) today.

Carl - Great News!

And, Johnny (Deggesty) said [in part] "...That's WONDERFUL news, Carl!! May that problem indeed be licked..."

Indeed, that is good news any time it is delivered by a Doctor!

Congratulations, from me as well, Carl !

{Heck of a note, when the highpoint for "us", these days, is a Doctor telling us our medical treatments are 'working' . Bow  In my world, my favorite word is 'stable'.} Congrats, Carl !

Joe, I wonder if the ND&W is being paid to store those boxcars. Otherwise, it seems to me that there would be a high per diem account building up.

Mookie, as to Texas, when I was a little boy, I was given to understand that you always shook your boots out in the morning to make sure no centipede had taken up lodging. I learned this from my big brothers, who in all probability learned it from our father--who would have learned it from his father, who spent a few years in Texas when he was in his thirties.

I've heard that with regard to scorpions, but centipedes would certainly deserve respect as well...

You're right,  Larry, it was scorpions; I just could not think of that creature at the moment. I do not recall that centipedes are anywhere near as bothersome as scorpions are.
