Heads up Cat!

I'm watchin' the radar.  Fortunately we are only @ 1100 feet and not the 5280 where you are!

My opticals don't work in snow, either - so just take them off and check eyelids for holes!  As Joe sez - "stay safe"....

Heads up Cat!

Promised flurries and got white-out conditionsConfused.....Light fixtures swinging up here on the 11th Floor working environment.

At least the field dogs can stop and catch up with their rest. Optical gear is no good in driving snow.

Really? A year or so ago you couldn't walk across the street without tripping over a dozen of those things.

It is either 4 or 5, but I think 4. There are 8 or so ex-CEFX SD90MACs also in service, with a number of the ex-UP units either stored or in the process of rebuilding.

Elmhurst would have been fun.  I did very little after radiation yesterday, but was ready for our tax session later in the afternoon.  This afternoon I'll be trackside at the Peck House.  Right now I have to score some Amtrak tickets.

Lucky man! There are only four of the ex-UP NS MACs in service right now.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

I wound up getting to Elmhurst yesterday, didn't really decide until just before I pulled out of the garage (sorry, Carl). The weather co-operated and I had a pretty good outing, including the irony of NS 7315, an-ex UP SD9043MAC still in UP colors operating on UP.

Lucky man! There are only four of the ex-UP NS MACs in service right now.

The SD90MAC convertibles did have some electrical system issues as they were designed for conversion, but the main problem was cracks where the fuel tank attaches to the frame that needed to be rewelded. I think EMD did the work and brokered the purchase, but I might not be remembering properly.

I have a question in search of an answer.

Didn't they have to re-work the 90's after they were manufactured?  If so, would the UP have had the work done before they sold it to NS?  Would this be comparable to buying a used car?

Great weather or so they say. Started the weekend off by rolling my ankle and getting to spend 2 day inside with my ankle wrapped in ice and elevated. It's a pain being the family klutz. Should be walking in time for the return of cold and snow.

Ouch!  But it is ok, cuz I spent the day outside for you.  Shy

Mookie;

I do appreciate you doing that for me, I feel better already!

Word is that winter will return to Denver on Thursday with snow and a big drop in temperature. Mountains have been stealing the moisture sent over from CA and not letting the moisture east of the front range. Mountains getting 200%+ of normal average snowfall. The result is grass and range fires popping up all over. Raining ashes here as I type. (71 degrees here today)

The winter wheat, flower bulbs and the tree buds are all gonna need a shrink.

You find one of our famous potholes did ya? A few weeks ago I had one cost me $200. Instantly runined a tire that had only 8,000 miles on it.

I'm still sorting out the one I hit a couple of years ago on I-75 in Detroit - in August.  Had I been wise (ah, hindsight) I'd have gone someplace immediately and gotten a realignment.  Instead I finished the trip home.  Two tires down there.

I'll replace one more this summer and finally have a good set of four, for another $250...

63 degrees f…heavy rain most of the morning, possible 4 to 6 inches in most areas, bayous working as intended, idiots driving into 6 foot plus deep flooded underpasses as expected.
And the beat goes on….

We had another nice day today-

As did we, but not as far as +70F - maybe +51F and a promise of cooler temps later in the week.

Still a fair amount of snow on the ground here, which rather limits outside activities, unless you're a snowmobiler...

We had another nice day today--I know I saw 67 degrees somewhere.

It's a shame that we had things to do and places to be today.  And tomorrow, which I thought was wide open after radiation, we have an appointment with our tax preparer (not usually a bad thing for us).  Tuesday afternoon we babysit the Peck House again (also not bad--I saw a 2017-built freight car last week!).  Wednesday might be a free day for me, and the telephone forecast says (right now...subject to change) sunny and 70!

The diamond signal for NS dropped to red.The Toledo sub got jammed up in a hurry.Need to get ready for work tomorrow.

I think I heard it said that Chicago got up to 70 today.  It didn't quite feel that warm, but I'm hoping it dries out the bike path.  My pocket forecaster (AKA phone) says no rain before Friday, highs in the 60s through Wednesday.

Tomorrow is fully occupied around here, but Monday (after about 10:00) is wide open (I think...though I've been surprised before).

Paul, let me know where you wind up!  After radiation, I shouldn't have too much to keep me home.

(Would that be beautiful downtown Berwyn, or Lavergne?)

Turning into a nice day here - already up to +52F from a low of +20F early this morning.  The snowmobilers are out in force.  Unless it snows again soon, this may be their last hurrah.

Sounds like the ice fisherman are out, too - despite nearly a dozen rescues from the ice in the past couple of weeks.  The ice on the "big lake" is iffy, and the small lakes are starting to get dangerous.  Of course, they "know the ice," but several of those rescued have been "experienced," so you know how that goes.

One young man up our way is in the news for being barred from playing with his basketball team after one of those rescues made him miss the team bus.  Opinions around here are going both ways...

Time for lunch, then maybe I'll get outside and enjoy the balmy weather...

Since Monday is going to be a nice day, I've already made plans to get out and exercise the camera (film only) that day.  I just haven't decided which location: Blue Island, Berwyn or Elmhurst.  Decisions, decisions Sigh

Our high was 67 this afternoon (the previous record, 60 degrees, had been set in 1880).  We have two more days of great weather coming, then two days where it will possibly rain, but still be warm.  I was out train-watching for an hour today, but we had company at home later in the day, so I had to cut that short before anything interesting came through.
