While Punxy Phil and his cousins may be the predictors of Winter/Spring.  The most reliable predictor of truly BAD WEATHER is Jim Cantore of the Weather Channel coming to your town to report on the next impending storm.

Never too old to have a happy childhood!

We're supposed to get some wind today and tomorrow - and are expecting +50F or so Wednesday, too.  Only the piled up snow is left around my yard.

We're still fairly mild around here with some flurries predicted for this evening, may turn to rain.  Mid to upper 30's for the rest of the week.  Still haven't fired up my snow thrower to date for this winter, but March has yet to arrive.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

I'm perhaps 60 miles south of you.  Ours started before dawn, and at 10am there is a foot of new snow.  The worst part is that it is fine powder, and once the wind comes up it is going to drift a lot.

Hopefully  we get some of it to drink, after Aridzonie, Nebrasky and Kanzass claim their allotment. (and they don't get it all at once with a rain chaser.)

As for the rodent over in PDN's backyard, not sure I'm buyin' it right now. (10" overnight that is blowing around.Freeways closed north and east of Denver. Kyle has the Harriman wedge plow out and RTD wishes they'd invested in dragons.)

Interstate 29 now closed from just south of Sioux Falls nearly to Sioux City.  I don't think the snow has stopped, but we have a ground blizzard going on, and visibility goes down to less than 10 yards at times.  There are going to be some interesting drifts before this ends.

Yep-  We're getting ready to pack 'er in for the day.  The guys are plowing drifts just so we can get the gate shut.  Ugggg.

EmbarrassedI am embarrassed to say that we received under an inch of snow - maybe up to a whole inch in parts of the city, and right now it is above freezing and the snow is sliding off the roof and really hitting the ground hard.  We had rain and wind gusts overnite and early this morning, but it was more strange than a blizzard.

However, the storm unplugged our electricity for 2 hours this morning.  That was cold!  Grumpy

We have had rain and thunderstorms this afternoon.  I remembered to put the rain-gauge out to see what we were getting, and it's going on 3/4".  That would have been a bit of snow.

What's left of the snow we do have isn't going anywhere too fast--it's like pouring cold water on ice cubes--they last a while as long as they stay cold--and those snow piles are as hard as rocks now, after having sat for weeks.

I was able to take a walk before the rain started this morning and run some errands (when we don't use the car too often, we're surprised at how far the price has dropped when we do need gas--we got it at $1.42 about a week ago).  Anyway, a nice westbound manifest kept me busy while I was waiting for the bank to open--DPU in the middle, plenty of interesting cars.

Dear Mother Nature-

I asked for a foot of honest-to-goodness snow, not an inch of "Cream of Wheat".

"Rule of Thumb" would make that something over 7" of the white stuff...

Looks like ugly weather in the mid-south.  Nothing here yet, but we're expecting some rain.

Why thank you.  We will have plenty to choose from.  As we speak, front end loaders are taking the 4 foot drifts of future flower water and converting it into mountains of future flower water.  I'd say we're pretty lucky.  An hour southeast of us got twice as much wind-driven future flower water as we did.

We did get the wind.  But after a snowblower cleaned off our back parking lot right before complete dark, and with the sun shining brightly today, all the snow is off the roof and pretty much off the back lot.  We watered every flower in the city, so we are pleasantly full right now.

Just think - you will now be the "garden state"....How sweet!  Wilted Flower

They're still busy selling the Brooklyn Bridge and the beachfront property in AZ (and maybe a certain rodent in PA)

Keep an eye out for Nathan Detroit and Dr. Detroit.

I didn't see Dr Detroit, but loved Guys and Dolls.  I saw many of Frank's movies and always enjoyed his singing.  A consumate performer.

About to crash for the evening. Morning will come too soon. Wasted 60 minutes watching a series called "Blood Feuds" on a History Channel spinoff. Did an episode on the Royal Gorge War. - Colossal waste of time. Embellished to the point that what passes as "history" is really, really bad fiction. Barely got the names right and totally skewed the facts.Ick!

PDN and DiningCar will have a good giggle if and when they see "it". Having read some of Palmer's 1869-71 field notes on his recon surveys between Denver & Pueblo, I think Palmer would roll over in his grave. I want to see the reaction of two respected historians that have worked up a detailed history of the Royal Gorge War what they think.

Totally ignored: El Moro, Dick Wootton, Holbrook at Canon City, AA Robinson, Louis Kingman, (Half of Raton Pass is in Colorado), Palmer & Kingman in 1866-68 in the Maxwell Grant, Palmer on the KP/UP, Palmer's earlier & later fails....As far as I'm concerned, the portrayal of W B Strong was all wrong.

(this production team ought to be banned from historical recreation. BTW - Diesel locomotives in 1878?)

Probably taking their cue from "reality" shows, which are generally anything but...

And, as we have discussed here numerous times, the media's awareness of railroading is abysmal.
