We expect  a high in the mid-fifties tomorrow, with rain and/or snow later in the week.

Yesterday started out with temps in the teens and 4 inches of snow, temps up to 28 in the afternoon and early evening with rain - main highways well salted and slushy - overnight increasing temps and increasing rain - now 45 and pouring.

Trade you a whole lotta sun for some of that rain?

I think you want both.  We got the rain late yesterday, and 28 degrees.  'Would have prefered the whole lotta sun.

We broke above freezing today, and it felt good enough that we both walked our errands (another car-free day).  Only three trains seen while we were out, and two of those were scoots.

We have to take the car in tomorrow to be looked at for a potential short in the passenger-side door...the ability to lock and unlock all doors from the right side has become intermittent.  Y'know, it was just as east to have no electrical stuff in the doors and crank the windows up and down.

Our temperatures are supposed to improve through the rest of this week, until they get to cloudy and the mid-50s by Friday.  The clouds are supposed to leave on Saturday, then the cooldown begins on Sunday.

What! don't you have two pockets so you can keep your keys and loose change separate? Or do you have so many keys that you need to carry them in two pockets?

I still can see, after going on about sixty years, the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds at college standing in front of a door and trying one key after another until he found the right key (many of the locks were made by the same manufacturer).  I never had to carry more than about eight keys that were connected with my responsibilities, and most of them were different from the others.

QuestionMudchicken, is I 70 still blocked at Glenwood Springs eastbound? I saw a blurb on the news at5:30am  where an 18 wheeler is on  it's side with boulders by the trailer. On the other side of the river , is the railroad  on slow orders through the area?

Looking at yesterday's times for #5 and #6, #5 was early arriving both at Fraser and Glenwood Springs; #6 was 10 minutes late leaving Glenwood Springs and 38 minutes late arriving at Fraser. Slow order eastbound but not westbound; changed conditions for #6?

I-70 Looks to be closed into the very early hours of Friday morning, and then additional delays with pilot cars for weeks or months. The slides happened across the river and west of the hanging tunnels. The mechanical weathering has been rough this year in the canyon. So far the railroad has gotten off light. The speed in there is already slow with additional caution(s) in the Bulletin Form C's.

Putting extra rocks in da pockets - 70-100 MPH winds...Light fixtures swinging gently up here on the 11th floor. (I-25 SB closed because a large IKEA sign is threatening to fall over on to the freeway...Don't want to join Toto headed to Kansas.)

We're gonna have an outdoor hockey game in 50-70 degree weather (not what the promoters were planning on)

I've got some zero I wouldn't mind sending you.  Actually, on the way home the truck said -5F...

After the mighty Blizzard of '77 here, local officials thought they might be able to capitalize on the notariety of the event by hosting "Snowtown, USA."  Snow sculptures, winter sports, you-name-it.  After a few years, they gave up due to a lack of - snow.

Good fire training tonight.

One of my coworkers planned a big snowmobile trip with his buddies 6 months ago.  They're headed for the Black Hills (western S.D.) tonight, but left the sleds at home.  Weekend forcast is 50's and 60's.

I don't remember the details, but various places  around here had winds with velocities up to 96 mph during the morning storm. Did it cross over to you that fast, or do you expect more wind tomorrow?

The worst winds around here are usually canyon winds which come whistling west down through the canyons on the east side; the winds this morning generally seemed to not so bad, but the cemetery in Tooele (west of the Oquirrh Mountains) lost many big trees.

Today was "blustery", tomorrow is supposed to be "breezy" (Blow ye winds southerly!), bringing us very warm weather.  Johnny, 50 might be about the swiftest gust we get.

Temperatures are supposed to get close to 60, though they're keeping that for the southern suburbs.  Nonetheless, I plan on going out into it to harvest some freight cars at Elmhurst and Oak Park (no little ol' drive rods for me!).

Joe, you have nothing on us...Metra dinkies were delayed on BNSF while inspectors were checking out a bridge that a truck had hit.  I think that's about the third one this year on BNSF alone!  Of course, around Chicago you don't know if it's low clearance or the center pier that gets 'em.

My sightings logs are still giving me problems, and I'm anxious to get away from them for even part of a day.  I finally divided the real troublemaker into three parts (box cars, covered hoppers, and everything else); I'm hoping that that will at least narrow down the problem.  Of course, when I'm away from them I'm just as anxious to get back to them.  I guess that's the thing about a good hobby.

It's not the destination - it's the mode of travel....

Up for a medical call.  I was, anyhow.  The temperature definitely isn't - it's down at -11F.  Warmer weather supposed to be here for the weekend.   Just so it doesn't thaw too quickly.

Ye olde waterbed calls...

Tree - that is funny!  I do need to check my front porch to see if there is anything feather-wise out there.  If we would have had snow and freezing temps, we would be in a winter blizzard today - the wind just howled all nite.  But with a high of 70 yesterday, it is just a noisy wind.

At 5 o'clock this morning the wind picked up to a howl so fast that I was expecting Mud Chicken to fly by.  The wind chimes on the front proch weren't chiming.  THey were plastered flat against the porch ceiling.

So a high of 80, gentle south breeze with clear skies, and a barbeque pit with steaks and taters is not in your dinner plans tonight?

Be right over! ... naw, wait a minute, the AREMA tribe has already been.(rats!) Supposed to visit Balt's Virginia Ave Tunnels in August next.

Gotta go out now and pick up the trash that flew in from the next county last night. Much calmer this morning. Johnny musta found a way to dial down the fan.

Mooks: Got 4-more pix, albeit blurry of 4 of the 9 Scottie pups. Stewart was watching the dog show  and was reaching-up on hind legs, pawing at the screen. (Good sign)

After the oh-dark-thirty EMS call, I slept in.  When I got up and wandered into the kitchen for some breakfast what did I see at one of my bird feeders (actually on the ground below it) but a fox.  I can't say with certainty that a fox has never visited before, but it's the first time in some 30 years of feeding the birds that I've seen one there.

It stayed for about 15 minutes after I first saw it, nibbling at the sunflower seeds the birds had knocked to the ground (thanks, bluejays!).  I was able to get several pictures and a short video before something spooked it and it trotted out the back of the yard toward the river.

Interesting.

Warmer now - +31F, again 40 degrees warmer than when I came back from the EMS call...
