A class 47 locomotive in the UK was painted in "Police" colours and still carries this scheme today (see below). It was painted to make people aware of trespass on the Railway. The locomotive was used by Virgin Trains for passenger trains but is now the property (albeit for not much longer) Freightliner Heavy Haul who will be replacing these aging loco's with the EMD class 66's.

Also many years ago a class 37 was painted in Police colours for aTV advert to promote the then British Rail, the idea being you don't get trains caught for speeding. Cut to shot of locomotive chasing another with lights flashing.

Mookie: that item above the headlight is an older Elesco (from the initials for Locomotive Superheater Company) closed-type feedwater heater -- structured a bit like a little boiler.

Note to Bergie: the link file names to the images in miniwyo's post have somewhat dangerous names, particularly the locomotive image. Do we need to watch out when posting links what the names of those images are? Is there a procedure or rule to follow to check what's in the URL before posting (as, if I understand correctly, you see the name when you paste it between the img-/img tags)...

Isn't that Sheriff Buford T. Justice of Texas in that steamer? Stil chasing the bandit!
He really takes his work to heart, even outside of the lone star state!

It would be hilarious, especially when you are behind me with your lights and siren going and I put her in the big hole...lol...

Not like you could swerve out of the way...
