The idea here would be to have a good supply of things to either slow the cop or out run him: axle grease to drop on the rail, smoke screen (use the stack here somehow), rocket boost kit, and stuff like that. If he pulls along side, fire at his boiler with your handy dandy, trusty dusty only slightly rusty anti-boiler cannon.

Truth stranger than fiction?
Recently witnessed a large number of Police and Sheriff's cars near railroad crossing in my area, being curious I got closer and found that it was a training session for radar operations and they were shooting the trains for practice. I asked if this meant they would be ticketing speeding trains and never received a reply. Seems to me with all of the car thefts in the area one of the worst in nation they would have better things to do with their time.

Hey, I haven't a clue how I would go about writing a ticket on trains blocking crossings for more than fifteen minutes... and speeding trains are probably not part of my juristiction, anyway.

Gotta admit tho, I'd almost give up my Crown Vic for a take home locomotive like that one.... if only my wife wouldn't be so serious about insisting on a place to park her car....

Back in the late 1960s, GTW had rotating beacons on top of some of its units. They eventually standardized on amber ones, but initially some were red. My youngest cousin had the predictable response when he saw one: "That's a police train."

Well, a police locomotive would have to be fast to go after the speeders and also for high-speed chases and such. This engine appears to be an A3 locomotive. The Flying Scotsman (which is an A3) was the first locomotive to officially break the 100mph barrier, so they certainly picked a good type of engine to do this work!

On a police car, the people who get arrested go in the back seat, but in this case, they'd have to sit in the coal pile in the tender.

This would make a good episode of Cops!

Here in Canada , CN has it's own police force and they do use radar to check for speeding locos. At least they did a few years ago.

I found that on this past week's Photoshop Phriday on a site that I frequently visit, They had 13 pages(4 pics per page) of pictures that had been touched up on photoshop and this week's theme was "Great Moments in Railroading"

A few days after a major derailment and fire due to excessive speed, a motorcycle cop tried to stop a train for speeding in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was not successful.
