Mookie

man the torpedos!  Go for the asparagus! (I just realized you probably named your late esteemed dog Gus after that green weed people eat didn't you!)

And just now we had murder, mayhem and a little hail for about 10 min.  Thunderstorm warnings for here - except that in the pre-24/7 weather and warnings, it was nice rain and a little hail, but not enough to do much damage.  At least it cooled things off a little.  It was getting a little muggy - but still way too dry and not enough rain to do some good.

Gus was named by the breeder with inspiration from a kid's book that we all grew up with:    http://www.amazon.com/Angus-Ducks-Marjorie-Flack/dp/0374403856#reader_0374403856

Right now Haggis & Duncan are in the running for the new addition this fall. No idea yet what BossHen will name the kitten (Brambley?)

....and in the Scott's commercial for grass seed, it was Haggis that dug the hole in the yard, not Buster. (fooled those grass obsessed humans again!)

Just so I don't give the impression that I am losing brain cells, I met Gus several  times and was introduced to him and his "real" name.  He even wore his favorite red scarf for me!  And he was always a gentleman.

Haggis and Duncan (out da-- spot!) are both good names.  But you need 2 puppies to use them.  Smile, Wink & Grin  Or Haggis Duncan Mudchicken I

And the cat - well, Mookie is always a good choice!

It's more like early spring here--about 50 degrees this morning, and the same for the next few days. We are getting blessed rain today and more is forecast for the next few days.

The cat is currently scanning the Nebrasky skies for those twisty thingies. I'm hoping I don't get blamed for what's about to appear on Sunday here in Denver.

Central NE is getting all the bad "stuff".  We got some noise and a bit of rain.  Still not enough.

What is Sunday in Denver?  Now I am really curious!

Really getting mild out here with mid-80's predicted for today.  Got on the train for work this morning (5:40 AM) without a jacket, not unlike some other regular riders.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Be careful what you wish for....

5 inches of rain overnite.  Now fire dept out with water rescue equipment to get people out of their vehicles.  "Oops, the water was just a little deeper than I thought!"

Well, 5" of rain would certainly take care of that pesky dust problem we've been experiencing. Whistling

And to keep this all about trains:  Fire Dept and BNSF chasing propane tanks that are floating in the flood waters just outside the yard.  BNSF just wants the tanks back.  FD worried they may hit a bridge.  Best entertainment in years.

Are the FD and BNSF swimming the tanks down? (I don't think they can run very well in the water.)

They did finally corral the tanks - I am not sure how, but they are pretty good at solving problems.  Now if they could just correct the problem of determined drivers driving thru deep water.  Officially, we received just over 6 inches of rain.

It's times like that when one wishes that the rain in the streets (which they'd just flush down a drain somewhere into rivers that might not be able to handle it) could be loaded up and shipped to California, where relief is sorely needed.  It's sad to see the forecasters out here grasping at straws and hoping for just a little rain.  If it's like this now, with temps in the 60s for highs, wait until it warms up!

I guess we won't be going home next week after all...the wheels of progress aren't turning as rapidly as we'd hoped, either on daycare for the young-un or for reconstructive work on Linda's poor spine.  However, the break we didn't get before this past weekend might come about early next week.  I'm hoping we can see Pat's Hollywood uncle, maybe some trains...

We could actually use some rain here in the wilds of northern NY.  We've had "red flag" warnings up several times in the past week or so, and any rain we have gotten has been just enough to say it rained.  Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River are both low for this time of year.

Headed out tomorrow afternoon for grandson's birthday celebration with Papa.  Also adding daughter's 40th birthday to the mix, and a visit with new granddaughter.  Gonna be a busy evening!  Saturday the fire department is doing a drill with a neighboring FD, so I'll be there a good part of the day.

This coming week I'm engineer for several school field trips.  They won't be long trips, but I'm sure the kids will enjoy them.  Then I've got to rush home for a SkyWarn class.  We occasionally get those twisty thingies (and lesser spring/summer weather) here, too.

Weather forecasters are saying, "Well, we didn't get much rain out of that."

We didn't get any here, though there were angry-looking clouds on the horizon.

Treatments for Linda are going agonizingly slowly.  She's feeling a little down today, but things should perk up for her next week:  chemo, MRI, an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon, Linus' first day in daycare (though I pity the poor lady if his behavior doesn't improve over today's!).

I'm pooped.  Drove an hour and a half to visit daughter and family and deliver birthday gifts (grandson is into "Transformers." He mastered both before I left.)  Joined them for dinner at a local restaurant (it was packed - especially the "outdoor" dining area, where we had wanted to eat).  There was a nice breeze coming in the window where we did sit.  Dinner was my treat.

After dinner, back at their house, I introduced grandson to my quadcopter.  He and a neighbor boy had fun running away from it as it swooped around the yard.  Maybe next time I'll let him try flying it.

Grandson is enjoying a weeklong birthday.  His actual 6th birthday was Monday.  My visit today, a group trip to an indoor water park tomorrow, and a visit by his other grandparents Sunday will wrap it up...

High of around +88F today - more of the same through the weekend.

Well, was diagnosed with sleep apnea last week, now I have to sleep with a CPAP machine. Getting used to it, up to about six hours now of continuous sleep. Sister loves it, because she doesn't hear me snoring anymore............

...now I have to sleep with a CPAP machine.

It's been suggested that I should be checked for sleep apnea, however aside from often waking up at the peak of my "REM" cycle (90 minutes - you can almost set your clock by it), I can't say as I'm suffering any of the other symptoms.

I would not look forward to sleeping with CPAP.

Going to a sleep lab would almost be counter productive - trying to sleep in a different bed generally makes for a fitful night's sleep regardless.

I was a bit skeptical about it, but in the end, glad.  The part that jolted me was when the doctor said that I quit breathing an average of 20 times an hour........

My CPAP is actually pretty small, and can run on house power or through the 12 volt plug.  Must be getting used to it: was seven hours asleep last night, and felt better while driving today.........
