tree68 blue streak 1 So what was the frost line and what will the new one be ? Called a friend whose lines were OK but water meter was freezing up. Not sure what the "standard" frost line is here. Local paper said the city DPW said it had reached 4 feet... NWS now says that this was the coldest February on record for this area.

Talked to our water department people last winter during our nasty cold spell, they said the frost went down past eight feet. I'm sure this year it's gone past the usual four feet or so........
Went from Sturtevant, WI, to Green Bay today, via Elwood, IL, and Tomah, WI. Grabbing a load for Zanesville in the morning. Gunite.........

I think there should be t-shirts printed with "I survived February 2015".
Winter is supposed to be nasty, but this went way beyond!

I printed the graph from my weather station for the month of February. Not one day did the temperature get over +30F. Most days never got above +20F, a couple never made it to +10F, and a couple more just made +5F. On the other hand, the temperature dipped below zero some 15 times with the lowest on the graph at -28F.
Aside from the winter storm advisory we've got for tomorrow, things might be looking up!
From NWS, current ice cover on the great lakes is 88.3%, with only Lake Michigan and Lake Ontario showing any open water. That open water on Ontario may get us some lake effect snow later in the week...
Hope it warms up. Our chicken BBQ is coming up, and I'd hate to see the chicken freezing on one side while the other side cooks...

AgentKid It seems winter is happening in new locations this year.

Mookie,
Yes, it has been a strange winter. A few days ago my brother was telling me that there were only a couple of nights in February that the temperature dipped below freezing in the Banff, AB townsite. He thinks this may be an all time record, but there hasn't been anything in the media to confirm that though.
I've got to say, that a town surrounded by that much year round snow pack, and it is not freezing in February kind of concerns me. The idea of a big WHOOSH coming down the Bow River doesn't impress me.
It is currently about 20º F and overcast here. Coldest couple of days in a while.

I really did try to watch trains yesterday, but at 20 something and north wind @ 40 - even the warm, inviting sun wasn't enough. So 2 trains and we headed home. Mid-afternoon isn't the best watching time, but the good time @ 6 am is a little nippy yet.
Nice and springy this weekend - unless there is a memo I missed....
We're supposed to go back into the deep-freeze for a few nights. Would someone please tell the weather its March?

I have a favorite funny. If you have heard it, don't give the answer!
Hey Murphy and anyone who hasn't heard this one:
If April showers bring May flowers...
What do May flowers bring?
Bonus funny: What is green and sits on your patio?
It's a WAG. Pilgrims?
And the "what's green..."
Aside to Tree: I am watching Restaurant Impossible - well, it is better than studying the wallpaper here in the "office"...
They showed the "Oil Creek and Titusville" railroad! That seems to be in your neighborhood - sort of.
I'm almost embarassed to mention it, but we actually had some real winter yesterday morning--in the space of about three hours, seven inches of snow fell in the front yard, most of it is still sitting there. Maybe we will be able to take baths, come summer.

Northwest Pennsylvania - probably a six hour drive, anyhow. Still - might be an interesting "scouting trip" to see how they run. AND, right across the street is a motel made up of cabeese!
Might make an interesting addition to a trip to Michigan and vicinity.

Shoveled 6 inches at Noon - have accumulated another 2+ and it is still coming down.
Never too old to have a happy childhood!
Ns had a frieght waiting and the local too today. They weren't hanging in the siding too long.Eastbound was going by when I left work.Stopped in a store on the way home.Bad fender bender on the way home too.Need to get chores done.Mookie may showers bring June bugs.
The sun has been out here all day. Unfortunately, the temp just made it to +30F, and that might have been sun induced. Right now the bottom is dropping out, with a fall of 10 degrees in the past hour.
Anybody for a snowball fight in June? I might have a ready supply!
Norm48327 It's a WAG. Pilgrims?
Now we need an answer for green and sits on your patio. Think about it.
evening
Went and visited older brother.CSX and NS were busy.Had an NS train waiting in Edgerton for traffic to clear.Wonder how many times NS got a ticket for blocking county road 5 ? Time for bed.
Mookie . . . Now we need an answer for green and sits on your patio. Think about it.
Paul_D_North_Jr Mookie . . . Now we need an answer for green and sits on your patio. Think about it. Paddy O' Furniture ?
Paddy O' Furniture ?
I also thought about maybe a green beer.
I don't suppose you would believe that 2 college students told me those jokes. One was in law college....
narig01Mollie, my wife thought Paddy O'Furniture was horrible!! Thx IGN
went to Ft.Wayne today.Ns was putting a stack train on the woodburn(former wabash) branch today.Guess they needed the room? Mamma got what she needed and we picked up a few cars at the train show.4 cars for under 20 bucks isn't bad.Tomorrow it's church and Sunday school.Let the snowmelt continue.
Speaking of storing trains (and oil trains), CSX stored an oil on the MA&N line at Utica a few days ago. Apparently things were backed up down the line (possibly just for oil trains). I presume it's gone now - haven't heard otherwise.
It would have been quite a back-up move.
Things are warming up here a bit - we stayed well above zero last night (but well below freezing, too.
We're getting some light snow, but nothing debilitating.
