My choices would have to be Chessie, Mopac eagle and buzzsaw, and UP wings.

I've got to vote for the big gold "SR" & "The Southern Serves The South" herald...

Remember: In South Carolina, North is southeast of Due West... HIOAg /Bill

How about the Great Northern?

I also liked the lettering on Reading hopper cars. The Reading & Northern coppied the look.

I don't see anyone standing up for the wonderful D&RGW and their "Route Through the Rockies" symbol, so I guess I will. Plus I am still a fan of the old UP "Overland Route" shield symbol

I like the big yellow Erie diamond on a black Berk or Pacific tender. It looks good with wings on a diesel, too.

B&O logo. the Capitol dome, just look at the eligance of the logo on a freshly painted E or on the streamlined P7 pacifics. That was classy.

I'm with thg on this;but I would have to go further back into the history.
It would be the 'old' C & O,with the "Chessie" and the slogan "sleeps like a kitten"

The B & O Capitol Dome was good, with the "Capitol Route"[:)]

When I went down by the old Pigs Eye Yard a few years ago, I remember a big cut of the Railboxes. They are still kicking.
Course, what symbol sticks out? The angled rectangle of the Milwaukee logo. I once squeezed one of these onto the set of our high school musical many years ago.

Anybody remember: RAILBOX during the 70s and early 80s?
THOSE THINGS WERE E V E R Y W H E R E !!!!!!!!! Now of course, just like the old cowl units, they're virtually gone.

The colors & logo should be "permanently etched" in the memories of you railfans over the age of 35!
railbox? just about gone? hardly!!!! they are still eveywhere.... and its just not railbox...thier is railgon too.... in fact not to long ago..the train i was running had a block of brand new railbox boxcars.... about 20 of them... and the next night thier was another block on the same train of brand new ones....

Railbox is still around. In addition to ones with the traditional RBOX reporting marks, there are ones with CNA and SP too. Railgons still have GONX and some have CSXT reporting marks as well.

I do too but I would have to give it to the sleeping kitten. Chessie System logo will always stand out.
